Nope, there is a difference between knowing what good music is supposed to sound like, and the sound of two donkeys screwing. The fact that we can appreciate music that is nearly 60 years old is a testimony of how well written and composed that song was, something that is severely lacking in contemporary artists who don't have the talent nor want to invest the time in their craft to be great. In a year or so, Disturbed will be forgotten, but not Simon and Garfunkel.

I haven’t checked out the other comments but you now probably know that the first version of this song on the album, Wednesday Morning 3AM, didn’t have drums and the electric instruments (bass and guitar). They were overdubbed onto the version about a year later and the song was then rereleased this way and is the main version we hear. I enjoyed seeing you enjoy it so much. You’re right, there is something about the song that is so appealing and draws you in. I guess this is why there are so many covers of it.

Dereck reacts, well well well, you really hit pay dirt this time ,if you could choose an anthem for civilization at any time in its history present day or its future this is the ONE,this song came from the heart and mind of the two musicians that sang this first it is THE WHEEL of music and lyrics ,anyone that covers this masterpiece is trying hopelessly to reinvent the wheel and they fail dismally. Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel have produced a song that illustrates the defining nature of humanity and answers the questions to our problems and deficiencies, just listen to the lyrics they are TIMELESS and will forever be relevant, why, because humanity will never change their attitude nor learn from their mistakes and selfish desires.

Three minutes or less was a very common time length for songs of this period. For one reason most "singles" were released on 45 RPM records which could only hold about 4 minutes of music on each side. Also, radio stations did not like longer songs as they ate into time for promotions and advertising.

This is beautiful, better than any cover, but it's actually not the original original. This is the remix released in 1965 without S&G's knowledge and went to #1 on Billboard. The live version in Central Park is worth listening too (even reviewing if you'd want :D ) because it gives a further level of chill from the crowd presence and minimalist instrumentation. They also play the live version more slowly and I think the slower tempo adds to the drama and eerie vibe of the song.
