This is probably one of the best opera productions I have ever seen and Schaefer is my Lulu of choice. The smallish auditorium helps to obtain the intimacy of the dialogue. Perfect.
Dear Charles, thanks for uploading this masterpiece! But it's still missing a part, and i could not find any other full version with eng. subs. Is there any possibility you'd share the missing part with us?
We are blessed to have had in our time (roughly speaking) three astounding Lulus: Christine Schäfer, Patricia Petibon and Marlis Petersen. I must say that the fever pitch of Petibon's performances on video is truly compelling.
Thanks a lot, I have another pieces from the same composer at my playlists take a look , regaring the missing part I´m sttill looking for it in old file of my father, cheers!!!
It doesn’t sell, ever. And because it so challenging, especially for the orchestra, the money and rehearsal time needed make it prohibitively expensive. In Europe it’s much easier.
I'm absolutely fascinated with how Berg managed to take the twelve-tone technique and figure out how to apply it to make beautiful music. There are many moments in this where it almost sounds like a tonal piece.
Berg often constructed tone rows that could be divided into "tonal" chords, or parsed into chords by skipping notes in the row. The row of Der Wein is more or less a D minor scale with two triads at the end.
@@badhairdye from wiki: "Berg's use of the form in Act I, Scene 4 of Wozzeck is less conventional. His ostinato is a 12-tone theme, repeated in different registers throughout 21 variations." in other words maybe Berg uses 12 tone upon occasion.
The piece was left unfinished at the composer's death, and this performance may have only included the first two complete acts. Which is a real shame, considering that staging this opera unfinished ruins the precise palindromic structure of it!
at one time the second half of this performance was on RUclips apparently it haS been deleted. I recommend you get the DVD of this. IT IS AMAZING! FANTASTIC! DEVASTATING! JAWDROPPING!
This music, influenced by Schoenberg, is an acquired taste. You have to listen to it more than once to appreciate it. It requires an investment of emotion and attention by the listener. It conveys a sense of angst and sadness.
And I believe Christine S. had just fallen on-stage in rehearsals and dislocated her shoulder. Could have been replaced by Clairon McFadden, who was also great, but went ahead regardless.
It's as though he wrote an orchestral work and then tacked an opera onto it. The two don't seem related at all. I'd like to hear this in the concert hall, without the voices.

Amazing, wonderful, emotionally different, delightful music. ❤
Gotta love the brilliant absurdity of Berg operas!
By far the most striking interpretation of this brilliant opera. Schäfer's Lulu is incomprable!
Thanks to share your feelings!!!

This is amazing. I can't believe how singable this music really is. I can't listen to my Boulez version after hearing this one.
I also recommend the Chandos (in English!) with Lisa Saffer.
Schaeffer is great! Wonderful vocalist and also a very intriguing actress. For sweet contrast, I saw her sing Gretel at the Met.

While my favorite is also Petibon, I would certainly add Barbara Hannigan to that list!
Hannigan is bloodless, Petibon shrill. Schäfer gives the only convincing account I’ve heard.
I thought Cyndia Sieden was also excellent.
Bravo. Vielen Dank auch für das englische Übersetzung. Gleichzeitig.
Vielen Dank für die Unterstützung meiner Arbeit.
Wie er sie hochgenommen hat, das ist aber lieb!
If you want to give us this masterpiece, give it all.
that’s what i’m saying! i need the rest of this performance. i literally cannot watch any other and i need to know what happens
I think Christine Schaeffer is my favorite Lulu. Glad to have this great performance available again ! But...where's the rest ?
Thanks a lot, I have another pieces from the same composer at my playlists take a look , regaring the missing part I´m sttill looking for it in old file of my father, cheers!!!
Einverstanden !!

@Jerf Hankell Simp.
It would wonderful to see Bergs opera seen at the Met more often.

I hate to tell you -- Wozzek is not twelve-tone.

this story would make a nice film.
It has been made into a film more than once. Pandora’s Box being the most famous example

50:04, phrase from Berg's violin concerto?
Yup, sounds like the beginning of the second part of the 1st mov.
Many thanks. Any chance of posting the remainder?

Why is this only 1:34 while the full opera is 3hrs?
as far as I can see this is incomplete. Is there another part somewhere?
yes! it stopped at the intermezzo! what do i do with my life?!?!?!
Where do we find the end?
still missing the last half!! I really urge you to try to find it! take it easy, cheers :D

True. But luckily there's an actual story to keep the whole thing moving forward.
Thanks for your original insight, deep thinker
Why not complete?
Why the dislike ratio? Is it the same old people hating on Schoenberg, or is the Christians hating on the plot? Is it both?
@Jerf Hankell I converted to Christianity after posting this message.
@Jerf Hankell Wasn't a joke.

Berg said "women's rights" back in 1935 but men today still can't figure it out

Dekadenz. 🥺😕
Sehr glaubwürdig. Christine Schäfer als sehr intensive Darstellerin. Kostüm vielleicht etwas auftragend oder täuscht das Video?
If had to imagine a Lulu, it would be Christine Schaefer.
I would imagine Alma Mhler, because that's who Berghad in mind. In fact, there's a direct reference to Alma in the opera.
@@johnryskamp2943 I say Christine Schaefer, because that's who I had in mind, for better or worse.
