Since when did allowing a blind man to play one of the most dangerous sports one earth restores faith in humanity? 1. This is not inspirational, this is shocking and dangerous. American football is undergoing a concussion crisis and Jake Olson is in harm's way. It is only a matter of time before Olson is concussed, injured or even killed. 2. I hate this "Faith in humanity restored" meme. Did this stunt end the war in Syria? Did this stunt cure AIDS? Did this stunt end SJWism? No. This bullshit needs to die.
mat2000100 Perhaps you could be more specific as to where the danger was? He was in full pads and helmet, surrounded by 300lbs athletes protecting him, with no opposition to hit him in any way. The USC team doctor had to sign off on it on the condition that the opposing coach was informed and on board with it. Opposing players were told by their coach not to move forward even 1 ft. during the play. Add to that the fact that he was in a wide open field in front of a stadium full of people and on a live TV broadcast, so it was virtually impossible for anyone to sneak up and do him harm. Jake Olson was likely the safest man on the planet during those few minutes. And for a guy who's battled cancer since he was born, he deserves to have this lifelong dream happen Fight On Jake!!!! .
mat2000100 I'm not sure I'd call it a "stunt", he's been snapping the ball since high school and it requires a skill that he's developed. He's dreamed of playing at USC since he was small, and cancer tried to stop him, taking his eyesight. Was snapping the ball for one extra point something spectacular in the big scheme of things? Not really, but it was the thrill of a lifetime for a kid who's battled cancer since infancy. It was just for the one extra point, he didn't play the whole game, and he never will. His situation is such that they can only put him in for one play per game, as arrangements must be made with the opposing coaching staff, etc. And it won't be every game, as other factors limit when he can be put in.
It was not the whole game it was only this play. That is why the timeout was called. Helton and WMU coaches were both aware of the play well ahead of time. WMU coach told his players not to rush. The refs were also aware of play.
Wrong. USC was up 48-31 before the extra point. Western Michigan showed class by allowing Jake to have his moment, particularly since the coaches worked out a deal ahead of time where they would each allow one extra point if Jake was put into play. USC followed through and this was WMU following suit.
why do you have to downplay his accomplishment????? it was great.....he is a big boy, he can push defensive tackles, even if they did not challenge him
i hate it how they patronize him. let him snap for real, let the other team actually play. let jake block as well as snap. i love this kid, and he has the ability to actually play, i don't think the coaches realize how much they hurt his feelings by having the other team stand down when jake snaps.
I don't care what anyone says about sports but things like this man Jake is why i love sports and if a tear dont drop from your eye your just not human
He knows each face, had a blind friend when he first met me asked if he could touch my face, it gives them a visual representation in there brain even though they can't actually see you
Moments like this restore my faith in humanity. Just awesome.

Kudos to the opposition for not rushing him AND the ref that was obviously giving him some help. Bravo to all involved.
They should have rushed because if they blocked the ball and returned it for 2 they could have won the game.

It’s kinda sad how he’ll never know the faces of his teammates
He knows each face, had a blind friend when he first met me asked if he could touch my face, it gives them a visual representation in there brain even though they can't actually see you
