Proud of you! I started with 80kg after recovery and finally on 160kg. But it took me 2 years due to a busy lifestyle. You are an inspiration to women and us guys ❤️
Donna61111 Great question! I take Imodium 30 minutes before exercising to quiet my stoma a bit, so I don't have to empty my pouch while exercising. Imodium also helps keep me hydrated and slow down my transit time. Without Imodium I find my transit time is only 1.5-2 hours! I can't keep up! :)
Hey, I have a doubt that I still have on my mind since I got a colostomy surgery in 2015, is it possible to compete in any physical combat activities once recovered from it. I need to know, I'm desperate.
Can I go back kayaking and exercising after a parastomal hernia repair. I am currently working out on exercise bike and walking but for me its not enough.
What are your opinions about going to the gym and using benches for some workouts? What can I use to protect my stoma while laying on my stomach for some exercises also without hindering my skin with applying too much pressure around the stoma?
+geeno123 I find the Stomaplex hernia belt to be super comfy because it has padding on the parts that are touching your skin, but if you have a 2 piece with a flange, the flange kind of takes the pressure of the stoma belt, instead of your skin. Honestly, I do yoga and lay on my stomach in some of the positions without a stoma guard because I have a cushy mat underneath me. If the benches have a good amount of cushion on them, it should be okay to lay on your stomach. If you're nervous about it, ask your doctor, or try laying on your belly in bed first!
+Shield HealthCare Ok, Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. Newbie here. I recently was offered to be a wheelchair bodybuilder, so while taking extreme precaution on my abdominals and around my stoma, I've been in the gym doing what I can in my chair, but also wondering how being on a bench, on my stomach would be.
Hi there! Yes, once you are recovered, there's no reason why you shouldn't be okay to skateboard. Six weeks is just at the point where you might be feeling like getting off the couch. First, check with your doctor to make sure they're okay with it. Then, look into some ostomy accessories that might help. If you want to keep your bag close to your body so it's not flying around while you're jumping, it might help to have belt. And if you're worried about falling, a stoma guard might come in handy. Very helpful! Now I'm having to deal with dialysis! Ugh! That's pretty tough compared to what you've been through. But I know everybody has crosses to bear! Cheers!

+geeno123 I would suggest getting a stoma guard if you're putting pressure on your stomach. Your skin should be just fine!
+Shield HealthCare The stoma guard wont dig into my skin around the edges? I've looked into stoma guards, but always wondered about that.
