- Welcome back to the course! In this episode, we spend an entire week in the life of a grounds crew worker. High winds, falling trees...and lots of mowing. Thanks a lot for watching!
Gotta love those beautiful golf course mornings when you pull on the gator or cart to that first hole and its still dark outside. I work at Williamsburg national in williamsburg va
Thanks for watching Rob. All the best to you up there in VA.
I haven't worked on a course in about 19 years. Today, I applied to one. I really enjoyed your video.
Respect and appreciation for converting the temperature to celsius, you have at least one viewer who appreciates your effort! Also the golf course maintenance is pretty cool too haha!
Ha, thanks a lot! Appreciate you taking the time to comment. Thanks a lot for watching.
The solitude is definitely the main reason I love golf course work
Can't wait for winter to be over, these videos make me miss work. I love doing maintenance at the course.
I have an interview tomorrow as an apprentice greenskeeper.. your vids have helped me gain a lot of knowledge!! Manchester, England.
Spent 35 years maintaining courses, enjoyed every minute, except the 2 times I wound up in hospital with heat exhaustion, in Florida. Remember to drink plenty of water each day, hope you enjoy the free golf also!
i wish we had apprectice ships like that over here. you have to get your license become and 1st or 2nd assistant and hopefully you get a super who mentors you.
Go to the camping isle for a 1 gallon dewars flask. It keeps ice for 3 days. I fill with ice and dump in hot drinks to chill. I did an almost 24 hour shift if you count the nap. Two 17hr shifts, and i couldn't do any more for a few hours
About to start working at one myself! These are really good videos to watch in preparation. Keep them coming!
Thanks so much. Good luck!
I love your videos, don't stop!
Partially retired and starting my first grounds keeper job tomorrow. Loved the video.
I just started and love it.....nice video.
Easily my new favorite channel to watch
I've seen tons of launches growing up in Melbourne FL. Didnt think yall would be able to see them down there! Great video, loved the big downed tree operation 😂
It seems like it aint just mowing if you can do all tasks. I love grass. Weed that is. 😂
I do this seasonal job in high altitude Colorado. Clearly the most peaceful of jobs.
Very relaxing to watch particularly as I cannot get out on my lawns due to the temperature and water. Off to do some hedge trimming later after a lazy start. At least will be in a nice warm cab.
Good luck with the hedges! Stay warm out there. Thanks for watching/commenting.
I just started work at Schoeman Park Golf Club in South Africa. I enjoy the videos keep it up thanks
Studied Turfgrass Management at NC State, spent 35 years in maintenance, was an assistant at 3 clubs, always remember a golf course is like rust. It never sleeps
I got a interview tomorrow at a golf course for entry level groundskeep. I hope I get it this looks like a awesome job.
Nice videos…🤙
Thanks a lot for your vids man. I just over wintered with rye and bent and it has all come up nicely. My Great States push mower takes me dow to a half but my California Trimmer is just laying down the Annual Rye and it won’t cut it. I want to get it to a quarter inch just so I can maximize the creeping bentgrass. Also I have some scalping issues. I am in Gulf Breeze Florida inside Pensacola.
Thanks for watching Chris and sharing. We reel mow pretty tight everyday. We have celebration Bermuda fairways and Tif Eagle greens. We actually don’t overseed at all...so I apologize as I’m not the most knowledgeable about rye. Sound like you have nice lawn there tho!
I can’t escape the golf course, it’s snowing right now so of course we’re closed and I’m on RUclips watching the course 😂
Just found your channel, love it! Your Toro Gm are they 14 Blade you guys use in the greens?!
Nice.
John I’m an assistant superintendent at a private club in Indianapolis. You should look at Ohio state online turf management certificate. It’s 6 sections you can go as fast as you want through it and it’s only $600. Courses will take that for assistant jobs and super jobs down the line. They love that with exp.
Thanks a lot Andrew! I’ll definitely look into that. Appreciate you taking the time to tell me. All the very best.
I've worked golf course for about 8 years now, Grand Harbor in Vero Beach Florida, John's Island West in Sabastian , FL. Hawks Nest, The Moorings, Point West, Shit, I know Golf Course!
Dude, we just had a hydraulic leak, big time operator error, he noticed the leak on one hole but continued mowing the next green, lines up and down the entire green, bad day
Many landscaping companies have female crews that weed and do spot chem treatment. I call them flower power
11:56, you mean if you only have one or two holes left at lunch time you would not finish and take a late lunch? We did that all the time.
I love your videos man
Question regarding mowing the rough or fareway, will it ruin the reel mower when you run over the golf balls?
It will mess up the bed knife of the reel if you run over a golf ball so definitely avoid mowing over them unless you have a guard on the reels that repels golf balls for mowing driving ranges
have thought about getting qualifications for your job john ? its mostly online now all you need is a laptop or your phone may be good enough. ask your boss if you can do it and if they will pay for it. makes a big difference when going for an interview
Good idea. I’ll certainly research that. Thanks for watching as always.
its nvq in the uk , im sure you have your own version mate
ACS DISTANCE EDUCATION, sports turf management bht 202 . hope this helps
Have you had any encounters with gators while trimming weed beds?
I've been working on a golf course for 12 years and that's a chem trail buddy not a rocket
No star link rocket
Does anybody know the name and location of this golf course?
How is the relationship between greenskeeper and club member/golfer?
are there many conflicts, or is it civil for the most part?
would love to hear back from you
Most members at my course are miserable old people that complain about everything
I feel ya
hey man, i’m a young teenage kid getting a job at a country club course. any tips or advice? i’m nervous about messing up
Hey Jack - good luck bud. Don’t worry about messing up. Everyone does. In fact, it’s the only way to learn. It’s expected. Grass grows back! Keep us posted on how you’re doing. Just work hard and volunteer to do various tasks.
I looked it up and during the time of shooting this video spacex launched 3 different starlink rockets and also a were anticipating the return of crew dragon 2
What kind of camera do you take with you? I work on a course in Oklahoma, cheers from down here
Thanks a lot for watching Julien. I just use my phone (iPhone 11). I’m hoping to get a GoPro one of these days. Appreciate the comment!
Hi sir
I am manik miah is from Bangladesh, I am interested in this assistant green keeper position , so any one can help me for find my dream job.
@FairwayJohn. KICK ASS VIDEOS MAN. It looks like you filmed history. Infamous Elon musk and friends sent a Falcon 9 Space Rocket carrying GPS satellites launched by SPace X on November 6th. Believe it was around 9am as you filmed. That was awesome
I hope thats true, lol. Some people say it was just an airplane. What do I know...lol. BUT I’m sticking with my story. Thanks for this comment! I will stick with this legendary tale going forward!!! 👊
That wasn't an airplane at 4:00? That's exactly what they look like when the sun shines on them the right way. Maybe there's something different about it that i cant see through the camera.
Hmmm maybe....lol...I’m sticking with rocket cause it seems cooler. Haha. Thanks for watching Ray, I appreciate it!
Free lunches!!!??? We gotta beg for toilet paper!!!
When you get a hydraulic leak, what's the best thing to do?
I don’t know…wash hard with chemicals. I wish I knew, lol. Thanks for watching and commenting 👊
@@fairwayjohn6336 gonna be starting an assistant superintendents job at a country club up here in NY! Previously worked on courses and now im coming back to it after years. your videos have inspired me! i hope you start back up soon!
Get as far from the green as possible!!
get ready for some sod work ...i've gotten lucky in the past by immediately hand watering the leak line until saturated but not very often ..Its as much about the temp of the oil as it is the oil itself ,they also have a special detergent if applied timely is helpful with recovery time
I never work with music unless I'm just walking. Machinery is dangerous, and music is a distraction
You should show while you are busy cutting.!!!!!!!
seeing greens get aerated is hella cringe.. dope video tho 👊🏻
Yea...it’s like we spend all this time trying to make em nice and then, one day, destroy them. Agreed. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment. Really appreciate it.
we dont just want to see before and after!
Yea it’s a little hard to film during the process. I’ll get a tripod or something going forward. I use my phone for everything so maybe I’ll try and upgrade! Apologies on that front. Thanks for watching!
Robin maybe I would put this a little more politely. I am so impressed we get to see what we do considering the job must also get done. Alot of hard work goes into these videos. I for one really appreciate it.
I’m a superintendent and does yours know you waste so much time on your phone while doing your jobs? Your vid is cool but damn. 18 hole collars and approaches my guy gets done in 2 hours.
wasting time and not doing a very good job. 12:43 see how far the roller is away from the cutting edge? Ridiculous
i imagine tee boxes take the other 2 to 3 hours. its all job related material what he records. educational really. 40 minutes out of entire week doesnt seem like that much of a time waste.
Working in a gulf course is a piece of shit, lot of damn work for the pay, thanks god im graduating now dammit
I mow ponds and fields while managing at an HOA neighborhood with a 10 man crew. This guy does it wrong. He has them working on top of each other instead of phases. You can work a spot untill the last group is done. He rushes the work instead of proper staging of tasks. Lots of "hurry up, and wait"
