    This week I got to redeem myself. After designing a bed that looked pretty clumsy, I took the parts I didn't like and turned them into a really nice and functional bookshelf.

    I wanna say again how much I appreciate the care you take for your family. Not only in building these beautiful projects for them, but also how you protect your children's privacy.

      Why would you appreciate another persons choice to not show her wife's child's face

    • @crowdedsubwaystation
      @crowdedsubwaystation 5 дней назад +16

      @@smashyrashy because a lot of people use their child as part of their brand and the kid has to then act a certain way all the time. Plus, its protecting her privacy so that once she grows up, she can be an anonymous person if she so chooses. Also, there are a lot of pedophiles out there who watch family vlogs to watch the kids. Its best practices these days to not show a kids face if you're an influencer.

      @@crowdedsubwaystationwell said. I agree totally

    • @TJtheBee
      @TJtheBee 5 дней назад +9

      @@smashyrashy Politely letting you know that Laura refers to her wife's child as her own daughter. Full stop.
      As for "why would you appreciate somebody else's choice", I think human beings can appreciate when fellow human beings demonstrate and uphold similar values. In this case, it allows for the bonding of a community. It tells you that the people who you may care about, to any degree, are safe - especially in this case. I'd say the majority of us have invested interest in the safety of the next generation. Don't you?
      In any case, I agree with Ursa. I also appreciate Laura's care for her children's privacy. It shows me that she cares about their safety and comfort. And in turn, I feel more safe and comfortable watching her videos and consuming her work.
      For as individualistic as many societies have become, it is reassuring to see others that hold the same feelings you do, and commit to building a better future with them. Even if, in this case, that community has more distance and a more parasocial nature.
      I can't really tell if you're question was genuine or if you're trolling...but if it's a genuine question you're asking, that's my perspective. And I suspect I'm not alone in my thoughts.

Please don't fall into the trap of letting RUclips take over every aspect of your life. Please keep making "YOUR" videos. Love what your doing with the new house.

    The shelf project turned out really great. In addition to the curved top, I really like the dowel pins standing out for the fixed shelves. It's a really nice detail touch.
    Your thumbnail for this video, and the commentary about the Brilliant sponsorship at the end, reminded me of when I worked for a furniture designer/builder over thirty years ago. His main piece was a custom designed chair and we always had problems fitting them together because they were not four-corner square. It wasn't until after he closed up shop and sold it to someone hours from home, that I realized why we always had trouble with them and it came down to geometry/math which neither of us was very good at.
    It dawned on me, and your thumbnail reminded me of this, that we were building a chair in the round. Therefore, all of the joints had to add up to 360-degrees for a perfect fit.
    I wish I had figured that out way back then as it would have resolved all of our misalignment problems.
    I also really appreciate how you recycle projects. In that way, no project is a failure. It's just a stepping stone to the next wonderful thing.
    Thanks, again for another wonderful video!

    Great vid Laura and when I saw the curve math I got this little twinge of anxiety. BECAUSE...I still suffer from having had the most terrible geometry teacher in high school -- he nervously whispered his lessons, while little beads of sweat ran down his face and the paper airplanes flew between the boys in the back of the room. When I remember him now I feel so bad for him -- I hope he found a better career. So, Brilliant might be the answer for me...will def give it a shot!
