Eris doesn't want people to say "I'm sorry you had to go through that" or "Are you sure you can do it?". As they say in this scene, Drifter has 100% faith in Eris to keep things under control. But he still supports her. It's in contrast to characters like Ikora who is basically Eris's best friend, but at the start of Season of the Witch expressed that she really didn't want Eris to become a Hive goddess.

My two favorite characters in all of Destiny. Separately I always loved them but seeing the idea of them slowly becoming... more... possibly together, oooooooh that makes me happy.

They are, but it's pretty obvious it's not like a sex relationship. Eris used to find Drifter's nicknames and him hitting on her to be absolutely insufferable, but as time went on, she and Drifter eventually gained a deeper respect for each other. Drifter awkwardly asks one day if Eris wants to have a private dinner with him and Eris doesn't want to, but sees it as a way to get information out of him (Eidolon Pursuant chest armor from Season of the Haunted), and it's grown from there. In further item lore entries, we learn that them eating together has become a regular thing, Eris tolerates his nicknames, Drifter acts a bit more serious, and they share more and more of themselves with each other, because they are both people who have been through extreme hardship and they find common ground there. Eris went through the shit in the Hellmouth with her friends dying and losing her ghost, and the Hive goddess stuff, while Drifter is one of the oldest living Risen (he doesn't consider himself a Guardian) who lived through the absolute hell of the Dark Age, starving to death hundreds of times because his ghost would keep resurrecting him, still hungry, for him to walk five steps before dying again, trying to get him to be a soldier in a war he wanted no part of.
In one of the more recent entries for the exotic sparrow Gloaming Journeyer, you can read about how Drifter and Eris are discussing the possible end of the universe. Eris worries about her friends dying around her until she's alone at the end of the universe, and almost has a breakdown. But then Drifter hold hands with and hugs Eris, while Drifter comments on how Eris has given him hope. Eris asks if Drifter isn't going to be running away from the fight this time. And he simply replies "Nah, I'd miss the moonlight" (one of his nicknames for her), while looking into her eyes, something that most people find uncomfortable but he doesn't see Eris as a monster. In the lore book "Purpose", in turn, she asks Drifter to help Sloane, who is partially Taken. Drifter expresses his insecurity at actually being able to help another person and opening up to others, using one of his nicknames for her, Moondust. But Eris doesn't get annoyed now, and just tries to convince him he is capable of doing good, before using one of his old names, Germaine, which few people know, for him.
In this cutscene especially, we see that Drifter can empathize with Hive goddess Eris's hunger (need to sate the ever-growing need for tithed power) with his own seemingly infinite hunger from the Dark Age that he still remembers vividly. They're both sort of outcasts among the Vanguard but they really care about each other because, well, they just "get" each other. They both enjoy getting their hands dirty, they both make weird food (Eidolon Pursuant bond), and they both get very invested into their personal projects, whether that's researching hive magic, or making gambit.
