  • On this video, I'll show you how to properly touch up the paint on a Yoder smoker. I wasn't taking care of my paint 100% so it started to peel and chip away where the grease and BBQ sauce would spill on the paint. Just a little elbow grease and about an hour and half and my smoker looked brand new again.

    Great job Joe, I've been painting cars for over 30 years you did a better job than some of the painters I've worked with. One little tip tho, put paper over the orange paint because I'd almost bet that you got over spray on it but you did a great job. Good tips for the people, thanks for sharing and keep up the great work my friend.

      Thanks 4 Seasons! I put 2 rows of tape down and it wasn't enough. As you mentioned I did get some over spray on the paint so I used some liquid wax and it took it right off. Thanks so much for the comments.👍🏼

    This was really helpful!!! My paint has same issues because of the dripping BBQ sauce. I also think high heat cooking has taken a toll as well. I'm going to follow this process and make it look like new. Great smoker and way too expensive not to take care of. Thanks for the great step by step!

      Thanks Joe! The key is to wipe off and drips immediately with a wet cloth or wipe. 👍🏼

    Good video Joe! I put an adhesive stripping around my lid to stop stuff from leaking down the front of mine so it helped a lot. I just replaced my controller last week from a warranty deal. The decrease button was getting "iffy" when I was adjusting temps. One call to Yoder and it was shipped out that day. Very easy to replace. In hindsight I probably should've filmed it.

    That was a great video. I don’t think I’ve seen this topic on any of the other two thousand bbq channels I watch. I would think this technique could translate to any kind of painted smoker. Great topic for a video and ha ha for doing it. The touches up smoker looked amazing by the way.

      Thanks Crazy! Not a whole lot of repair videos like you said but I bet there are a ton of smokers that need some maintenance. Even my big El Rey smoker has some paint chipping off. Thanks for watching my friend. 👍🏼

    Very nice outcome Joe. You would think for the price you pay for some of these smokers out there that most of it would be high-grade stainless steel.

    • @SmokinJoesPitBBQ
      @SmokinJoesPitBBQ  5 лет назад +1

      As thick as these Yoders are, stainless would cost about 1 million dollars. 😁 Just a little elbow grease once every 2 years isn't too bad. Thanks for watching Yankee!👍🏼

      Smokin' Joe's Pit BBQ hahaha ORRRR the Yoder would be dangerous on me 🔥 😉 This beautiful BEAST looks a lil intimidating for sure. 💪🏼 I’m used to the charcoal Webber’s 😂 or gas grills. Ya know the baby “WIMPY” grills.. hahaha 😂. (I’m the only griller in my house as well as cook) NOW the Yoder is like having King Kong in my backyard... just a lil scary!! BUTTTTT.. I would love it just as much as I do King Kong.. soooo I would learn. Hahah 😜
      So if I ever get one.., 😉 I will do a video on it just for YOU! 😘

      Smokin' Joe's Pit BBQ AWWW. 🥰 BTW.. I scream shotted this so I can remember the Yoder brand and model no. Hahaha 😂 My daughter, she calls herself, the “Daughtanger” (manager) of my channel. Lol 😂 She says I can’t do bbq on my channel cause that’s not my specialty. I mean. I ain’t know Joe from “Smokin’ Joe’s Pit BBQ... 😉 but I ain’t no worse griller in the world either. (Don’t know a name of a bad griller. Lol). The point is YOU FINE MEN do amazing grilling.. which I very much enjoy, definitely know your shit, where as lil ole me knows not so much. Lol 😆 Now.. give me some time to learn, always willing to learn, and I might be able to show you one day. I could only hope. Hahaha. We shall see. Hehe 😉

    You should see if Yoder will send you their new grease cutter drip tray that fits over the front of the smoker and do a review of it. Was that paint directly from yoder or the auto parts store?

    • @SmokinJoesPitBBQ
      @SmokinJoesPitBBQ  4 года назад

      Hello Panther! This paint was sent from Yoder. I'd like to get that drip tray.🤘

  • @MrPanthers23

    Do you have to run the smoker after painting to help it adhere?

    • @SmokinJoesPitBBQ
      @SmokinJoesPitBBQ  5 лет назад +1

      I was going to use it the same day but I'd give it 24 hours before lighting it up again. I actually let it sit in the sun all day to help the paint dry. 👍🏼

    • @MrPanthers23
      @MrPanthers23 5 лет назад +2

      Nice. I spray that area with simple green after every cook to hopefully prevent the paint failing, keep the cover on it and under a covered deck. Hopefully this prevents the rust from coming.

    • @SmokinJoesPitBBQ
      @SmokinJoesPitBBQ  5 лет назад +2

      @@MrPanthers23 that works too. I would probably dilute the simple green at 50% so it doesn't start to eat away at the paint. 👍🏼

    HEY JOE, that was a awesome video my friend, I really learned a lot about how to use the correct sand paper and the grease remover and how to paint it, you did a fantastic job, Joe at explaining on how to take care of your Yoder smoker, so far mine looks ok, because I keep it covered all the time, but I know in the future I will have to take care of some things. AWESOME JOB. GOD BLESS YOU.!!!
