✨🎶 Autumn Leaves - Eva Cassidy 🎶✨
This song always makes me think of my grandmother. My great role model, the powerful woman, the kind woman, the creative woman, my source of inspiration, my push forward. She passed away in January 2017, but she is still in my thoughts.
I often sang this song with my former guitarist, whom I parted ways with last year. Since early January, I have started anew in a musical duo with the fantastic pianist RonaldD. Although he plays piano like a star, he also knows how to strike a sensitive chord on the guitar.
"Autumn Leaves" is a popular song originally composed by Joseph Kosma with lyrics by Jacques Prévert in French, titled "Les Feuilles mortes" (literally "The Dead Leaves"). The song was introduced by Yves Montand in the 1946 film "Les Portes de la nuit." The English lyrics were written by Johnny Mercer in 1947.
Since then, "Autumn Leaves" has become a jazz standard, covered by countless artists. Some of the most notable covers include those by Nat King Cole, who brought the song into the American jazz scene in the 1950s, and Frank Sinatra, who added his smooth touch. The legendary pianist Bill Evans delivered a beautiful instrumental version that remains a favorite among jazz enthusiasts. More recently, Eva Cassidy's hauntingly beautiful rendition has touched the hearts of many.
Other significant versions include those by Jo Stafford, whose version is cherished for its emotional depth, and Édith Piaf, who brought her iconic voice to the French original. Roger Williams' piano rendition became a major hit in the United States, showcasing the song's versatility across different musical styles.
The timeless nature of "Autumn Leaves" continues to inspire musicians and audiences alike, bridging generations with its melancholic melody and poignant lyrics.
