a-ha is Norway’s biggest pop success ever and their hit Take On Me is still one of the most played song of the last millennium. Everybody remembers the iconic video and the band is still selling out arenas around the world.
a-ha The Movie follows the band on tour, telling the full story of how three young men followed their impossible dream of becoming Norwegian pop stars. When Take On Me reached number 1 on Billboard in the US in 1985 the dream came true. Or did it?
This is a story of big ambitions, great music, broken friendship - and maybe forgiveness.

Most underrated band of all time. They’re not just one of the 80s synth pop bands for girls. They’re not the one-hit wanderer. They’ve made a lots of great songs and they’re still the great live band. I’ve been loving you guys forever!
The album Scoundrel Days was the soundtrack of my lonely summer in the US in 1988 when I first moved thousands of miles away from my friends. I hold this album dearly in my heart.

As a kid I liked this band and pictures portreyed a friendship. I was like: I want to be in a band with friends one day too. But it wasn’t like that at all. You hear this in the music as well. There’s such a huge gap between Scoundrel Days and SOTR (Pal can’t even pronounce Touchy without vomiting) To me Scoundrel days, some early songs and also memorial beach is what this band is about, but I assume that this can be different for other people.
I think we cannot really judge or grasp what fame does. The thing is that people say you change, but actually the environment changes. Even friends or family can behave differently to you. Must be strange.
On money I think it’s simple. Just all revenues through a third. This band could not exist without any of the three. Pal is a great songwriter but also needs a voice and face to bring them to fruition. Morten gave a visual identity to the band as well. And Mags/Magne is some kind of glue and multi-instrumentalist and experimental driven that is also needed in a band. U2 didn’t do it any differently (splitting 💰) and it could’ve created less conflict, save lots of time and help release more hits, to the benefit of all.

It's no Some Kind of Monster, but as a fan from the beginning, I'm interested to see the group dynamic via this. They are right, still one of the best live bands musically.
You know, at the time of release it was perceived as 'strange', but SKOM was needed and later in life it helped me realise a lot, therefore I will always be thankful to Metallica for making that documentary.
I saw them live @ Telenor Arena.
I think that Mortens voice is one of a kind.

OMG! A-ha was my very first (and single) teenage fever!! I've seen them on stage for at least five times in several ocasions! I have also seen them very close in some Radio events in the early 1990s in São Paulo, Brazil. Morten Harket will always be "my prince charming". They are really good. Cheers from Brazil.
Morten makes full use of his 5 octave vocal range with no loss of tune, this band were magnificent.

Nice documentary. A-ha was and still is one of my favorite pop bands.
Precisely because they used more synths than guitars. Plus Morten's voice is really beautiful.
I'm usually not a fan of male vocals except for Morten and a few others:
I read in a review of this documentary that the men couldn't stand each other, but I think that's not too bad. In every band you get 'frictions', but friction gives you shine. So it also produces beautiful music.
I think Pal is the most difficult of the bunch. I think he has a bit of an 'ego'. He also shines the least.
Too bad, when you've sold 50 million records and made your mark a long time ago.
I would enjoy it a little more and not take yourself too seriously.
They have been here for a long time and they don't have to do it for the money anymore, I guess?
So just have fun and release a nice album every now and then, I guess.

I just watched this and Oh God, these guys are so bitter and unhappy. They don't even like each other.
I didn't get that. It does feel like they have their ups and downs for sure. I wouldn't say completely bitter and unhappy though. It does feel like they don't know how to slow down or feel like they have to do a lot more than they should. Like they have to keep going forever and aren't allowed to just, relax. I feel some odd/weird tension that way. I don't think they know how to stop. I have seen clips of recent concerts. They just seem...tired...kind of like machines up there, not people. I am so grateful for all of them, but I wish they would just go enjoy life more. They gave us so much over the years. I wish them to stay around for quite a while. I feel that won't happen if they keep pushing on so much.

I saw the news about the movie on a blu-ray website. maybe is coming soon on blu-ray or 4k.
It's coming out on blu-ray and 4K UHD next month (May 2022).

at first I didint understand why this documentary. but then I realize how big they were. they were big in the us thanks to the MTV generation.
I want to see it, but I don't want to see it.... hate to think of the reality behind some of the best music I've ever heard.
I understand you...lol But maybe Morten's recent interview will comfort you...lol He said that the second part of the movie focused a lot on the tensions between them, but what matters is that they decided to get back together and are together until today. Morten said they have a deep respect for each other.
I sort of feel the same. Sounds as though there's a lot of negative points shown.

My favorite moment from this trailer is the last one! A woman trying to objectify Morten and he's like "NOPE" while still being playful!
It was an awesome comeback! I loved it! Good for him on that one for sure. 👍🏼 Also, so wonderful to see other people who take time to say something in the comments about this. Actually seeing what happened. I just was in another video commenting with someone who thought Morten was “Flirting back” to the reporter and liked what she said. WHAT?! 😳Umm..okay…she also said the whole documentary was depressing. That they were probably all tired because of the pandemic and basically all their problems were blown out of proportion. That they basically didn’t mean any of it and things aren’t that bad. Also funny, she believes that there aren’t any women who like a-ha just because of Morten. Hahaha! She really lives in an alternate universe or something. I guess I am the delusional one for taking the documentary for what they were actually showing and saying to be well…true. 🤦🏻♀️🙃

I like A Ha, but 'getting out if Noway, no one had ever done it before' Is incorrect. Norwegian band Titanic, had a UK number 5 in the early 70s and a full career that spanned a decade with many releases ,

is this real or a fan production
It's a documentary, but the director, Thomas Robsahm, is also a fan of the band. It was released in June at the Tribeca Festival.
I loved the documentary through and through, very well made, but the general tone, especially towards the end of the film is so utterly depressing. They either need a brutal therapy or to call it the day for good, otherwise why bother? Everything happening between them comes out in their recent music, which sadly is gray, bland and completely lacking ideas, energy etc. I know who may be at fault, but I'll keep it to myself.
just watched it. A interesting film but morten haket comes across as a bit too much of a perfectionist and a bit stand offish.
I think both him and Pal can seem to be perfectionists and Magne seems to try to stay neutral so not to start anything. It kind of feels like he doesn't get enough credit in this band and Morten and Pal get more credit.

Hmmm. They're both really, really good pop bands. But looking back I think A-ha's songs stood the test of time better.
@@pjokkenroll I do know what you mean. When I listen to A-ha I really appreciate the songwriting and the complexity. Duran Duran are more nostalgia/fond memories for me. I am not sure it's a fair comparison. They are so different.
