- Hello Ladies & Gentlemen and as always, thank you for watching. Today, we are called by a local police department to help a driver who had a little bit of trouble navigating on the interstate. Honestly, I think the truck was just tired and wanted to take a nap, but soon found out he couldn't park there. When the truck and trailer ran off the road, they came VERY close to hitting a large pole. We take our Peterbilt 389-X with a Miller Industries, Century 1150R rotator towing and recovery unit to see if we can prevent any further damage to the truck, trailer, or property. All while avoiding traffic flying by on the interstate. We certainly don't want a fuel tank to rupture or worse!!! Hopefully Ethan, the Rotator, Dalton, Gavon and I are up to the task??? Watch and see!!! I hope you all enjoy this video!!! Thanks for watching and God bless!!!

My common analogy, "there are many ways to reach 10". I could have approached this (any) job several different ways. The approach method is important, but more important is achieving the desired result, safely.
Again, a very special thank you to all my viewers, family, and friends who having taken the time to show their support. May God bless and protect you all!!!

In all the years of watching you, this is the first time I've seen you run the boom over the cab. I hope that trucker realizes how special he is.
second time for me. He had it over the cab for a load shift of steel I bars w/ Mrs. Pratt on board.
There is never a simple job when you are working on the side of the road on a busy highway. I can understand a little frustration and concern when that truck continued to move backwards. It is rare for you to raise your voice but I completely understand!
Yeah i was panicking myself. Thought we were going to hear crunch from the trucks colliding. Was worried Dalton or one of the others might get hurt.
Absolutely understandable. Everyone on the crew needs to be cognizant of what is going on. Much more so when you're working around heavy machinery which can result in serious bodily harm or death.
I didn’t here any voice raise. You’ve got to give directions and make sure they are understood. There is heavy liability here...Good job. Thanks
@@dmwarui That was my thought too.
Yes, completely understandable when you have that many lives in your hands, and yes it is that serious working that close to the traffic.
Do they not teach the proper way to set out warning triangles anymore? Thank you for continually providing interesting and educational videos
Isn't it like 50 ft then 100 then 200 ft.
It's ten feet then 100 ,200
At least they set them out... Think about the fact that some people doesn't set them at all!
Most triangle kits have a basic setup diagram inside the case cover, but most drivers are not aware of or don't think of it.
You also have to use your brain, and change the setup according to the situation ... if you are just over a hill or just around a curve, for example. The idea is to warn other drivers before it becomes an inconvenient surprise.
@@deplepfan depends like 3 ways depend on road
you got excited for a reason. 2 people abandoned their area of operation and placed themselves, you ,your truck ,the customers truck, as well as EVERYONE passing you all at risk. they will not make that error again. everyone safe. good teaching moment. thats how we learn.
Hey Ron , looks like you have alot more training to do with the new crew you have . On the job training really works good and they seem to be catching on ok , plus the headsets helps even more ! Great video and the previous one where you were talking about getting a look a like to stand in that doesn't fall down as much . LoL ! Have a great weekend.
Just a question...I wouldn't have a clue...but...if he's empty, what the crap are his trailer tandem doing so so (all the way) to the back of his wagon..lol...
A LOT more training is right. Maybe a little more hustle on their part.
@@cottonj9 My thoughts exactly! It felt like no one aside from Ron had any sense of urgency. An example would be when he told one of the workers to go make sure the mudflap on the right side didn't get caught under the wheel and that guy just took his sweet ol' time walking up to it.
@@cottonj9 I agree. They have probably come a long way, but there is a long way to go. There needs to be a whole lot less "cool", a lot more attention and listening, and more hustle and situational awareness. They will get there, I think, and I understand a father's pride, but Ron's got his work cut out for him.
Ron has way more patience than I do. That would have drove me crazy.
Another great rescue without damaging any equipment. Your knowledge of how to rig for the pull angles is superb.
Love your videos. Never in my 15 years got stuck and needed services such as this but my hats to you and your crew. Be safe Ron and God bless.
Hi ron, slightly off topic but thank you for you video today. Im from the uk and as everyone knows by now we sadly lost our queen, an incredible and amazing woman. As you can imagine it's been a very sad day here. So seeing your video come up was a relief, a break from the daily news. Ive been watching your videos for about 3 years now and love every video. Thank you and keep up the amazing work
Sorry for the loss of your Queen.
In the US we do not understand royalty, but 70 years as the head of anything is an achievement few can claim.
On the road training gives the guys a sense of things you always have to watch out for! Good job Ron and your crew!
Ron, apologizing for that moment shows even more how exceptional of a man you are. I’ve been talked to 100x worst in my first several years by the old school guys, and there was never an apology. Just a lesson.
DITTO, AND WE LEARNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The driver set out the triangles backwards directing traffic towards their truck instead of away from it. The procedure for placing your triangles is very explicitly described in the CDL manual.
You’d be amazed how many these guys can’t correctly sit out triangles
That's the 1stt thing I noticed too.
And they looked to be too close to the truck. By the time they'd be seen it would be too late.
At least he set his triangles up, you would be amazed at the drivers who don't!
Not surprising, Roehl has massively expanded over the last few years. When I first saw them they were just van trucks like this, since then they have added flatbeds and other trailer types, and I've seen dump trucks with their name on the door along with their trainer trucks around.
Always enjoy watching you and your crew. The situations some drivers get themselves in sometimes amaze me. Great video with a great crew! Thanks for sharing and letting me tag along :)
It’s great to see you and your son working together
Thank you Ron Pratt for what you do because being a tow truck driver to me it's an extremely difficult job trying to fix what these truck drivers get themselves into their traders are extremely heavy and the predicaments they get themselves into I couldn't even imagine how to fix it
Good morning from St. Louis Mr. Pratt! I seen one of your trucks near Capr Girardeau a few days ago. As a fellow tow truck operator, Missouri really needs to enforce the move over law, unbelievable the cars I am seeing in this video not moving over. Stay safe and God Bless!
It’s terrible the way people disregard Tow trucks , Emergency response vehicles, construction workers and stalled vehicles on the road. A few months ago the transmission in my Chevy 2500 went out on me right in a busy intersection wouldn’t move at all. So I was stopped in the middle of the road with my 4 ways on and hood up and people come flying up and almost hitting it at the last second still. When the tow truck operator was hooking it with his lights flashing an 18 wheeler came flying up and swerved over at the last second. People just don’t pay attention I’m a truck driver as well and always keep my eyes open for that. Sure some times you can’t get over but I Atleast always slow way down and watch for people by the vehicle on the side of the road.
@@projectswithdustin Seems like most drivers in this country nowadays are total dumbasses who don't ever think about safety while driving even for a second. I definitely blame the fact that it's so easy to get a license and that we have no decent public transport so you have to drive to survive in most of the country. So people think about it as more of a chore or like something as menial as doing the laundry, and never stop and think about what sort of hazards they are really subjecting themselves and other people to.
Ron you have the patience of a saint to be able to do that job, still amazing how you keep your self and crew safe and get the job done 👍 Stay safe and blessed 🙏❤️.
I love that you do on the job training with them and that you're always willing to help teach. Watching this video of your crew, whoever is instructing the driver needs to stay by the driver. Walking to the back to see what happening creates a lag in relaying of commands exactly one of the things that the headsets are meant to prevent. As others have said it's rare to hear you get excited but, as a truck is backing up towards your very expensive rotator it's kinda hard not to get that way.
Thanks for taking us along and as always, great video!
That driver almost brought a whole new meaning to ROEHL transportation. Noone that's been on the side if a highway in any situation with traffic blowing by at 60-80mph can get upset at you for using a "stronger tone" when you repeat yourself 2 or three times and what you asked for still isn't happening. The margin for error in your feild of work is not large, sometimes only inches (or less) and when those margins run out property damage is the best outcome and it can often mean injury or death. So noone should be upset that you "raise your voice" once in a while, it is well warranted.
You have a tremendous amount of patience Ron and an excellent instructor. 👍
Very lucky driver. He got her stopped inches before nailing that pole. Great recovery Ron & the gang.
You know Ron that you can attend all kinds of classes and you can actually learn a lot however there's no better training than hands on. Another amazing job bro.

Had to laugh when I saw a video called “86,000 lbs Winchout” from Sumter Wrecking. The owner said he learned how to anchor his tow truck by watching videos from a guy named Ron Pratt. You’re famous and helping others out! Lol
I just seen that . Mister Hal is also a fan. Just to prove All wreaker drivers can learn from each other.
I was driving a tri-axle snowplow in a raging snowstorm, middle of the night on a two-lane highway. Lost all the lights and tried to pull over - went into a shallow ditch pretty much like that semi. Ditch was full of snow so it "looked" like level ground! Driver's side rear tires were lifted off the pavement - and I'm hearing the salt/sand had shifting in the bed. Shop came out with another big snowplow, said "if we pull 'er out from the front she'll tip over for sure". Since I was just a back-up driver (only drove when the regular crew maxed out their hours), I hopped out and said "have at it" - lol. They got it out without going wheels up. Fun times.
I can't believe you felt the need to apologize for your tone.
The great thing about being calm and respectful is, when you yell they know something is really wrong and they pay attention.
The Ma “Bell System” Creed is “No job is so important and no service is so urgent that we cannot take the time to perform our work safely”. Thanks Ron! 👍🙏
Love the alliterative names you give these calls, "Tired Toyota", etc.
Ron, it looks like a minor pull out deal, semi's ARE NOT meant , to go off roading!! As ALWAYS Ron, you and your family, team stay safe in whatever you do on a daily basis!!!!! Much love Ron, and your family , team!!!!!!!! God bless, Ron and your family, team!!!!!! Your friend Bob Compton from maryland
I love how every move you make is calculated. You are a credit to the industry. New Towing operators could learn a lot from watching your videos.
You know you watch all of Rons videos when you can anticipate what he is going go to do.
I am enjoying the fact that you are teaching the next generation of towing experts including your own son (Ethan) I truly hope you are teaching him the business part as well. I pray your students listen well and heed all your lessons God Bless you and your crew, I pray for you all safety. Love and Prayers,
Well, this was a serious stress test for you... heart pounding moments from the trailer and your team. Glad everyone is safe.
Wishing you and your team a great week, gentle weather and restful evenings. Peace brother
Ron you tone was very understandable under those critical circumstances, when the trailer was backing into the driving lane… Mine would have been too… Spot on brother…!!! You’re thinking of everyone’s lives and property and everything accident related. I’m sure the guys understood… and appreciated your apology but understood… Being on that highway is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS…!!!! You’re an awesome man Ron…!!! Not only do the chiggers and ticks love you, we do too…!
Appreciate that you train your crew on the job and don't already expect them to know everything. 99% of the jobs hiring around me (Virginia) are like that and require years of experience or formal education, you basically won the lottery if you find a good paying job that will actually train on the job.
years ago among other things I handled commercial truck breakdowns for a major truck rental company in the NY and tri state area including NYC. To put it mildly it was an adventure and Id see some amazing things that were literally beyond belief.
Most people have no clue as to the dangers of working on breakdowns roadside. Several times drivers would actually come within inches of hitting you , whether or not it was intentional or not, who knows. Drivers not paying attention or not caring is /was a huge issue. When I worked there there was very little in the way of warning lighting other than 4way hazard lights and rotating amber lights. The police would rarely if ever pull up behind you and provide a safety barrier to keep vehicles from hitting you or your vehicle.
No high vis clothing in those days either . Times sure have changed. Nice channel , nice equipment and good safety on your channel . Keep up the good work and stay safe !
Hello Ron, that situation looked a lot more tricky and dangerous than it appeared at first sight. I could understand your concerns, what with some of the team still learning(on the job) and traffic passing very close. Further, some of the truck tyres were in the air.
On the plus side, the headsets are great and very useful, it wasn’t raining and the trailer was empty.
It does however, reinforce your constant message “ SLOW DOWN & MOVE OVER !!!” Best wishes from the UK.
Being from Boston, my "hello" is louder and more aggressive. You're a good man, Ron.
Awesome job!! Loved how you made sure everyone knew what to do before you would do anything!!!!!
Been watching your channel for a couple of months now, am amazed how many volvos get into trouble in the USA. Keep up with the videos and stay safe god bless. John in the UK
Great on the job training Ron. Glad nobody got hurt and glad the trucks didn't bump. God Bless you and yours.
I suspect your crew would rather you get a 'little bit' excited about something than for them to get hurt.
I love this channel so much and now someone has opted to mod a Peterbilt 379 after I think is the number 17. I tell you one thing I really adore. You helping others. Working alside a very busy highway, having to motorists that think it is so funny to do stupid things such as stare at pictures or movies on their phones or text while they are driving.
This is the first Ron Pratt video I watched on my new computer. Thank you for another great video. God Bless.
It a pleasure watching you and crew. I like how you are very conscientious about saftey . You have a heart of gold. May God bless you and crew and families.
Rigging! It's all about the Rigging. Well, not all, but a major part of any job ya'll tackle! Well done Ron and crew. Stay safe, God bless and keep you. Have a great weekend.
having trained young men in rigging for overhead work moving up to 60 tons its important to not talk to them like they were 2 year olds or use wording like no no no when instructing them. Makes for a happier crew and one that looks forward to learning from you. Always interesting in watching different equipment/rigging being used to handle loads..
Ol Ron Pratt is good!! Idk how he does it so easy!! Be safe and God Bless!!!
I got interested in this stuff from watching the hit Canadian TV show HTH with Jamie Davis. Still enjoy the reruns. But what I like about this channel is that there's no edited big drama with the narration, music and commercial breaks. But it did get a little exciting at the end though. It is like going to school with teacher Ron telling his crew what to do and the audience gets to witness that to. If it wasn't for the internet, HD cameras and this platform, we wouldn't be able to experience this dangerous and very skilled work first hand. Keep them videos coming. Well done!
Another nice job Ron and crew. A slight tense moment there. I'm sure you are constantly worried about some inattentive driver doing something stupid. I'm up in Maine and earlier we had a young woman doing something with her phone as she drove into the back of slowing traffic as they were entering Portland on the interstate. No one was hurt bad, but there were 3 or 4 cars involved.
JUST DRIVE as they say.
back when i did road assist we called a traffic car out " those with big flashing arrows on the back" to direct traffic when working on highways. i lost count of how often i felt a side mirror swipe my vest. before that only place i felt safe was underneath it placing jacks or on other side. many just dont change lane.
We have our own traffic control unit and it was on site. It does have the large arrow board with red and blue lights
Good morning Ron & crew! Hope everyone has a great day! Stay safe out there!
I am always greatly pleased when you say what I'm thinking. Demonstrating that I might have a clue.
Everybody loves you Ron, not just the bugs, chiggers, and ticks.
The slow turn around to see Ron 7:46 😂
I don't blame you for getting excited there. He couldn't see you and kept backing up. You don't need any damage like that. Keep up the good work.
Good morning Ron and Family.
Good Morning My Good Bro Mr. Ron Pratt Sir & God Bless You & All Of You're Whole Family & All Of You're Whole Staff Today
Very interesting, and a good demonstration of how careful manoevering can rectify a difficult situation.
I love the diligence of this work. It's very pleasing.
Omg I finally got to watch the whole video! My heart was in my throat when that truck was backing up! So glad no one was hurt and Tater too. God Bless and have a good weekend
Love you guys very much I appreciate all of you for doing the good job you do and for putting your life on the line every day to help other truck drivers who make mistakes.
I I have a deep love and appreciation for the men and women who get behind the wheel of a big rig because without any of you we don’t eat because you guys keep the world moving every day
Good morning from New Hampshire
I like that you apologized for your elevated voice commands. I have to do that a lot with my wife when docking our yacht; she handles the lines. In the beginning of your video, I was wondering why the officer was not blocking, until I realized that you were in the merging lane. However, considering the last maneuver, it may have been the safer move to have blocked the right driving lane. God bless you to keep you and yours safe while you perform your recovery duties. I’m still looking forward to meeting you and having a picture with you when I visit my family in Jackson.
First time I’ve ever seen you have the boom over the cab for a recovery! I have seen lots of your recovery work. Great job as usual!
WHOO!! Thought the Tator was gonna take a hit for second. Glad Ethan got him stopped in time. Job well done as always. God bless
Another job well done, Ron and crew. I saw something similar once, Driver was looking out the right window and made the wrong turns and ran into wrecker.
The most excited we've seen you get! But that was a hairy situation. Glad it worked out well. God bless!
Thanks Ron . Excellent video with the new interns
Excellent work Ron God Bless and keep safe.
Your tone is totally 💯 understandable 🇺🇸👏💪
When I worked as an electrician one of the county building inspectors had a cowboy hard hat and was told by a job superintendent he couldn't wear that hard hat on his job site. He told the guy that if he wants the inspection he would or he would leave and not come back. The man didn't argue too much after that
Great job as usual. Havagudun Brother.
Good morning Mister Ron, Ethan and crew
Though it looked like a fairly simple pull out, and it was, this was one of those that things could have gone sideways in a hurry, this recovery had a good outcome
Slow down
Move over
God bless
Be safe
And watch out for motorcyclists, little kids, critters, and little old ladies going to Bingo
A little urgency in your voice is fine when trucks are about to make contact. Especially when one of them is yours. No apologies needed there, I'm sure all your guys would agree.
Loved the reaction to the scale video, subbed over on Bonehead Truckers. Great channel, thanks for the 'heads up" on that. Be safe out there!
As always a great job Ron and crew. Sometimes you have to get a little excited to get someone's attention. You could have edited that out and we Wouldn't have know it, but you left it and let's us know you are human just like the rest of us. I for one will look over any little thing like that. Keep up the good work.
Love you'll stay safe and God bless.
Dan
Hey ron.... I've been missing your videos ... your videos has been very educational and I enjoy each one of them.
This reminded me of your "A little over the top" video, about a year ago I think? This was a good training video for your crew. Great job getting him back on the road safely.
Special way to help the casualtie. And then also 3 students with you. Thanks for that. Seen on 9-9-22 at 19:46 in Amsterdam (NL).
Another great job done by you Ron and crew.
Ron. That’s the first time I have heard you get a little excited You always have cool head. Gods Blessing
Good job as always! a line and foundry hook on the passenger side of trailer fifth wheel plate might have change the angle of the trailer tandem back to lever and pull at the same time!!
Great job!
I recall an incident in Germany where a sliproad was being resurfaced and the available carriageway was not long enough to reach merging speed. Fortunately someone let me in otherwise it would have been a high-speed diversion onto the verge. Maybe something similar happened here, in which case the driver handled it well.
Great video, love your videos Ron and crew as always 👏👏👍
There were several examples here of just how important it is to keep communications simple, clear and precise. Listening is, at least, as important as communicating and everyone has to understand 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 command. Every extra person added to the chain will extend the time taken for commands to get through, as we saw with the reversing trailer.
The driver of the truck was the weak link here as, regardless of his ability, he had no direct communication with Ron, meaning that instructions take longer to get through - not ideal when you're reversing a 40' trailer into fast-moving, interstate traffic.
I've watched these videos for a good while now and, in situations involving another vehicle's driver, things tend to go better when that driver is in direct communication with Ron.😁
It's never a "good" video without the infamous "Pratt fall" 😂
Hi Ron, I love your programs and watch them all, it is good to see Ethan back he looks good but he is no cowboy he wears his Stetson backwards.
Keep up the good work. Bill in UK
The cowboy hat shaped hard hat was a new one
Your tone was fine given the potential for disaster. It became clear that the team did not understand your plan nor did they understand the danger having the trailer in the other lane posed.
Good morning everyone. Thank you Ron.
The rule for setting out triangles is SO easy, yet most drivers get it wrong! This guy got it wrong. But we knew from the situation he got himself into that he didn't leave a job as a rocket scientist to drive trucks. The safety feature keeping you from running the boom into the stacks is your own Mark 1 Mod 0 eyeball! When the rear of the trailer was hanging out in the lane, I was a little surprised you didn't have him set the trailer brakes while you were dragging him, as that would have skidded the trailer back to the right as you pulled. But that's probably why you're the tow truck guy and I'm the retired driver!
Great video, start off an early Friday morning
Great job as always Ron and team members
Just tell them the Mark 1 Optical tracking system keeps the boom out of the stacks & cab. I also employed the 3 horn beeps when backing a 26 foot box truck into a tight spot with several coworkers standing around last week.
lol at 9:40 this is why I should watch Ron's video's in order. I watched a newer video and saw Ethan's hat, and asked where he got it, if I and watched this one first, I would have known lol
I now have a White one, A black one, from Vulcan. and now a green one lol
I like that hard hat! Ethan looks like hank Williams jr
this is the first time I’ve ever seen the boom over the cab and pulling someone out that way.
Speakin of semis, I miss the other kind "cabovers" here in the USA🇺🇸 although the length limit was increased which made them no longer needed to pull trailers that exceeded a certain length. I use to see them all the time back in the 1980s & down. Today I mostly see conventional cabs.
Mechanics hated cabovers. Much more difficult to access engine.
In the Aviation industry hand signals for seting the brakes is palm to closed fist and brakes free is closed fist to open palms.
I love the pink hard hat. Breast Cancer Awareness. Thank You for all you do. Really appreciate you sharing the videos. God Bless You All. ❤️❤️
And no power lines were in the way for a change. Good bug spray is a must in Missouri and no matter how much i put on they still get me! Good job!
There were power lines just behind the Tator, but once clear by rotating the boom, then all clear.
Hmm,you asked the two others to help and show the new guy,but still they hadn't followed your thoughts ,it's always the case of ,want it done right ,do it yourself if it's not sinking in with the training !you may see it differently, this is what we see from our couches 😎 Family sometimes find it harder to learn the correct way ,sometimes there is intitlement over riding the circumstances .
Your right hand man has to be competent in every way , one-day you won't be there ,then what is going to take place ,training and getting someone to think like you is very hard ,it's tough.
Traffic management seems to be a none event ,here in NZ that road would be shut down ,full stop !
There would be a multitude of safety vehicles involved ,flashing lights, cones and people ,crash barrier trucks in behind you ,two minimum etc .
You certainly at risk on your highways .
