A Simple how to on measuring elevations. This is extremely easy but critical in determining the right pump for the job, the amount of solar needed to lift that water or for determining the amount of pressure you will have at your fixtures with gravity flow.

Good stuff, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the picture at the end, it just makes things a little easier to understand.
Elijah deserves ice cream and a thumbs up for being a good helper.
Great tip! My dad and I recently measured the elevation drop from a spring to our cabin with improvised tools. We stapled an old measuring tape to a 7 foot long 1"x2" board then used a string with a line level to work in downhill increments in the same manner that you progressed in uphill increments. It worked great but it was a little slower than your method. Thanks for sharing!
@Thingamujigger I found the model# its cst-17-620a
By the way, can you please give me a little more info on the CST transit? Like model number. Thanks so much.
I don't think the CST variant is still being made but there's a David White version that looks identical (David White D620 Sighting Hand Level) - I realize original request is 11 yrs old LOL, posting for others with the same question.
Outstanding son !
This is a perfect explanation, much thanks Scott.
Considering hiring a pro driller in the GA/SC CSRA . What questions should I ask, and what answers should I receive to make an informed decision as-to who to give the job to? A neighbor has a deep well, so it's not going to be a DIY job. Thanks.
How come little boys run everywhere until you want them to hurry? lol
