    The language barrier only adds to the greatness of these interviews because both sides have to really focus on what they are trying to get across, therefore digging deep. Great stuff.

    It's definitely in the DNA.
    My mother is from France, but I live in the Anglo part of Canada, yet I am highly drawn to the black metal coming out of Quebec and France over most other countries. The sound and the language resonates with the soul.

    Metal Noir Québécois is my favourite scene in Black Metal. They have a thick, organic and tight sound I just cannot find elsewhere. Especially true for Gris and Sombres Forêts.

    Deletere are one of the best Quebecois bands, and I'm glad they are finally getting some attention in recent years. Patrice is better known as Thorleif. His other band is called Valknacht, and they actually have some songs with English lyrics, despite what he said about singing in that language! Karl (Carl?) is aka Atheos, and he also plays in Monarque (you interviewed Monarque himself at Steelfest last year, where he was playing guest keyboards with Forteresse). Coincidentally (or not?), you posted this today, the same day Monarque announced their new EP, due June 24. So today is a fun day for fans of Metal Noir Quebecois!
    A couple of final notes. One, the scene is indeed in-bred, the same way as the Icelandic scene, with everyone knowing each other and helping on the various projects. And my opinion, FWIW, are that Deletere and Monarque are two of the best bands in Quebec, while Valknacht are pretty good (and aren't really Metal Noir Qebecois, playing a more pagan sound, closer to Manegarm or Moonsorrow).

    • @RautaMetal
      @RautaMetal  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks for your comment Mark. Yeah, good that you mentioned those names there as well. Yep, I met Monarque himself this year too (he was actually hanging out on the background while doing this) and we had some beers etc. right after this one. All really nice chaps! Was really nice to meet them and to do this interview spontaneously.

    I like this band and their philosophy. He's right when he says they're a band from Quebec and French is their language so it makes sense for them to sing in French. It's not an insult to the rest of the world, it is actually beneficial to the world. The more people that are exposed to their language the richer we will all be. I really enjoy listening to music from different languages even if I don't understand. Often I will get an idea of the emotion from the voice and the music and then later I can look up the translation of the lyrics to get a better appreciation.

    • @RautaMetal
      @RautaMetal  5 лет назад +1

      Yeah, I like that too - I cherish all the languages.They are a big part of the cultures worldwide. Definitely brings more personality in the music, too.

    • @TheCossak
      @TheCossak 5 лет назад

      Exactly, I wish more bands sang in their native languages. It would make the music more interesting, beautiful, and authentic. Consider the difference between songs inspired from the Kalevala but sung in English vs in Finnish. I love Amorphis but I wish that they would sing in Finnish (and I am not Finnish myself).

    As a french guy I prefere black metal from Québec, more epic and atmospheric indeed, than a lot of B.M. french bands. French bands are more concentrate on old black metal, with evil sonorities. It's difficult for a non-french speaker to translate and understand some lyrics, but as a french guy, lyrics from bands like Monarque or Sorcier des Glaces are very poetic, it's incredible to listen it and understand it.

      @@patriotedesplaines Then, I guess you need to get independence. I am not taking sides here as I've heard both sides of the story, at least a bit, and I don't know who is right.
      Would be kinda cool to see Quebec as an independent state. Would it be a city state or something bigger?

    • @patriotedesplaines
      @patriotedesplaines 5 лет назад +2

      @@RautaMetal The state of Québec already exists...by memory, in terms of size, it is 5 times the size of France. We would be 8 millions approx. In the past 50 years, there were 2 referendums on Québec independance, both failed, the last one by a slight margin (0,5% approx) with non-investigated electoral fraud on the winning side.
      I Don't want to be too specific, but in Québec, political power is divided between two equal jurisdictions in essence: Québec and Canada. But, some of these powers make Québec's government submitted to Canada's one. It can be related to European Union, but in the form of a tighter federation. Therefore, Québec can exist on its own. And, Canada recognized Québec as a nation and it's right to secede.
      In conclusion, Québec is different from Canada, but, for now, it is politically binded. It is due, mostly, to inertia (there is no major problem at the moment in the federation) as majority of Québecois don't feel canadian (result of a recent Survey about Québécois/canadian identities).
