The hard part is that Nintendo has to be the one to approach you in order to collaborate.
@Wowpowowthe only exception is pokemon. Sure, the pokemon company is in charge, it was set up by Nintendo to manage the pokemon franchise the moment the late president iwata first began working at nintendo before being promoted president.

Not exactly. The Mario + Rabbids crossover happened because Ubisoft went to Nintendo first. In fact, Ubisoft essentially "kidnappped" Miyamoto in a midst of a gaming convention, something that took brass spheres and could have gone so wrong in any other context. The issue is whoever collabs with Nintendo has to give the company a very compelling reason or unique possibility/"what-if" to do so.
Fun fact, Nintendo do own Pokemon, along with Creatures and main owner, Game Freak
Yeah I should’ve been more clear with that! They own a good amount, I believe around 30%, but they don’t own it fully is what I was going for!
I found it really interesting that they don't like Funko from a design aspect though. Great video

I'm pretty sure Kirby is a similar fashion to Pokemon in the sense that the franchise is only co-owned by Nintendo. (Not saying that it's likely to have Kirby themed funko pops but the chance isn't impossible)
Nintendo wants to make and sell their own amiibos, and doesn't want any other company to compete with that. That's all there's to it.
Good point but there's so many Nintendo figures that have been released by toy companies that would directly compete with their amiibos (lego, nendoroids, hasbro figures, etc.) So if that was the case they would stop working with those companies to boost their amiibos

It makes sense, as with the Pez dispensers, they're able to keep their likeness.
I always thought it be fair that Nintendo will let Funko use the variants of the Mario characters from Illumination’s Super Mario Bros. Movie but Nintendo still owns the merchandising rights with Jakks Pacific.
Who knows, they might. At one point they said that they’d never make a mobile game, and yet they have so many.
I don't know if "many" is how I'd characterize it. Currently there's Dragalia Lost, Animal Crossing Pocket Camp, Fire Emblem Heroes, Mario Kart Tour, Pikmin Bloom and Super Mario Run, if I'm remembering them all. I left out Pokemon Go since The Pokemon Company is only partly owned by Nintendo.
Of course, there's also the now defunct mobile games, Miitomo and the Dr. Mario one. That's all of them, if I remember correctly.

Originally Nintendo wanted a typicall lego wave with minifigures (kinda like the Lego Minecraft and Lego Sonic) but Lego proposed the system of the interactive mario electronic figure and Nintendo seemed to like the idea so much that they let lego do it, as for other nintendo licenses there is Animal Crossing which uses the typical minifigure body with a specialized molded head made to represent the characters of the games so i doubt accuracy is a concern over lego, if they feel the need to make a specialized head to fit the design of a character, they'll do it.
Maybe for funko It can mean a problem because they rarely modify their basis for a figure but i may be wrong since i don't collect funko

@@papingosstudios161 I believe Lego was the one who pushed for the electronic Mario figure, esepcially since the late 2010's and 2021 where lego started experimenting with IPs such as Hidden side, vídyo, etc. Lego Mario was one of those lego experiments.

Nintendo just cares a lot about quality over quantity.
And Looking at funko’s track record…
they aren’t the best at consistent quality when it comes to handling big franchises.
The reason they made Lego Mario is because Lego is known for its high quality toys. Not low quality funko pops.
That’s like comparing a chocolate cake with sprinkles and icing to a brick. It’s not even close.
I would love Mario Funko Pops. Funko is like the only big toy company Nintendo hasn’t partnered up with.

Actually, it was Lego's idea to make the Mario legos the way they were. They pitched the idea to Nintendo to make the figures electronic based to make it feel more like you're playing a game.

I don’t like the look of Funko Pops… But I think if Nintendo ever did a collab with them they should do a Mini Mario figure from Mario vs Donkey Kong, it’s similar enough in design better for them and has that Nintendo flair to make their figures stand out

plus: more Pikachu Funkos, like Pikachu wearing each of the hats Ash has in the anime, I mean you can get those for the games (or could, but probably will again later) or even Captain Pikachu or Detective Pikachu's hat from the new anime and the game

I think its more likely that Nintendo doesn't like the quality of product Funko provides. If you've seen how Funko has handled fnaf you'd get why Nintendo might not want to work with them.

Megaman has always been owned by Capcom, regardless of what platform their games are on.

Nintendo already makes nendoroids and those are just funko pops but they stick to the actual design of the characters instead of bastardizing them into a gross plastic demon

I do agree that Funko pops looks just ugly and weird to me. I would rather punches amiibo for a premium on the second hand market then a Funko Pop.

Yeah! They’re in charge of the licensing/publication of pokemon, which is why there’s pokemon funko pops as they’re more lenient with giving out the license. I should’ve been more specific in the video!

no offense but Funko Pop are kinda low quality and I'm not a fan of the design cuz most of them have the same face and it can work for some like the Adventure Time ones I think those look cool and I guess for the price is not that bad tho I'm glad they made Nendoroids Ik they're more expensive but they're actually worth it (just my opinion)

I actually don’t agree with this video Nintendo does whatever they want and the real reason why there isn’t Nintendo funko pops is due to the lack of demand sure there is demand but they only listen when the demand is high and you don’t really hear anyone begging Nintendo for funko pops due to Nintendo giving us merch in other ways and funkos are unique I doubt Nintendo would say no to free money but it could be also because they want funko to pay them because Nintendo might be greedy/stingy a hefty amount for their ip and that explains why it took so long for lego Mario etc.

If they really don’t like the look of the Funkos, why not do just the Funko Sodas? Those look nothing like regular funko and can look as close as they can to the regular character and saying that they’d look nothing like the regular character isn’t really true, the art used in your thumbnail of the fanmade Mario funkos look really good. I think it’s just another case of big Nintendo being greedy with their characters or at least not playing ball like they have been with others like damn PEZ dispensers. Hell, Fortnite wanted Samus but Nintendo not only wanted it her exclusively on Switch but also wanted it where if you weren’t playing on Switch, you couldn’t see Samus. That was big greedy
part greed. part just Nintendo being super protective of their IP. also not the first time they did that. Soul Calibur 2 had Link as a Playable character, but only the Gamecube version had him.
and i think they one time also let a game company use their characters, but then they were also going to be included in that games playstation version, and Nintendo pulled the plug on that cameo.
so uh.. they are just very paranoid over their IPs. thank you Universal trying to due them over donkey kong.
