Pro tip > Don't tell anyone. It does not concern them. If you have supportive/open minded people around you, then go ahead and tell them, but don't overdo it. If you have psychologically toxic people around you at work, and this includes family and people you have known for years, do not tell them. Limit the flow of information, and imagine you are a government organization that has classified information and clearance levels haha Everything is on a Need to know basis. > If they don't need to know it, they don't need to know it. This in my view is the best way of going about things if you are in the latter situation, because at a minimum people around you will say a comment here or there, at a moderate level do it on a daily/regular basis, and at the worst case try to sabotage you.
This is honestly why I don't tell people especially family what I'm going to do. I will rather prove it to myself that I can do it rather than having family tell me what I should do and tell me im making a mistake when I want to forge my own path
Pat, you couldn't have put this video out at a better time for me. I am constantly bombarded from my wife about how im not an entrepreneur because i don't have a successful business. I keep telling her that just because its not successful " yet" doesn't mean im not an entrepreneur. I have failed many start-ups to get to this point but its hard to hear from someone you love that your not what you want to be. Thank you for these 5 tips to keep my spirits up about my dream.
That hurts the most: When the people you care about the most sabotage you. I find that it is often true what Pat said: It's more about them and their fears than about you.
All my best! Keep going, sometimes you might have to do something else to keep you afloat, but keep working at it on the side. It took me 10 years to find the right nitch. 3 more years to make some real money. I’m still moving, forward... don’t stop. I’m in your same boat. Any little ones? I have two, and I do all I can to show them that success is one door away!
Thank you pat .I'm 19 year old college student work on my website business but my friend always make fun of me saying "you're wasting your time' ,"You will fail miserably in life " .But I want to create financial freedom so that I don't need to struggle for money in life . I don't want to go for job because everybody is doing same(looking for safe job) not building anything of his own and later blame government for unemployment in country .
I know my mom means well, but almost every time we talk, she berates my career choice of being an entrepreneur. She loves telling me I should get a job with benefits and a pension, to go back to school to be a lawyer, accountant, doctor or to graduate with an MBA........... Then she wonders why I don't call her. My wife, on the other hand, supported me since day ONE. I knew I married her for a reason! I go to networking meetings for online entrepreneurs, read books and blogs and take courses in online business to stay motivated.
My family has been supportive, except for when it comes to treating online business like "real" work. Since I don't leave the house and I don't have a dedicated office they frequently treat my work like it's just something I'm doing for fun. It's my biggest hurdle right now. #teamflynnforthewin
I feel for you. Most people have the conception that in order for it to be work you must leave the house. Due to covid, that needs to change now. But remember, if your doing something that you love, and your providing knowledge or product, your working.
Pat, thank you for this! I've learned through years of false starts and failures that I must work through my own negative self-talk, before I can deal with others. Action is the best antidote to fear.
Great advice from Pat as usual and the back to the future reference warms my 1.21 gigawatts heart. I equate the entrepreneurial journey to that of the hero's journey. Every hero needs to learn how to master their skills in order to achieve their goal and so do you.
Omg. Thank you for this video! Not because it was inspired by my comment but it is exactly what I needed to hear. Made me feel so much better and gave me actionable advice. Thank you Pat
First of all you're doing it for you not anyone else. I couldn't care less what people think about what I do. The key to being successful is to surrounded with people doing the same thing your are we doing Pat if it's not a spouse I don't feel you owe anymore a reason why I'm doing what I do
My mistake was telling people what I am doing or things I’m excited to do. I have people in my life that tell me to go get a job. I have a business. It’s not a full-time business but all the time I spent in it I have learned so many things it’s invaluable. It’s a waste of time to talk about business with people that have an employee mindset.
After 15 years as an entrepreneur I’m sometimes still struggling to find the right people to surround myself with that share my passion and my vision. you are not alone
I must say the videos are unbelievable and are subjects that play close to the heart. Hitting it out of the Park...thank you! You are truly inspirational.
I love this video, Pat. I think one important source of the criticism stems from people not imagining that someone is capable of succeeding in a particular type of entrepreneurship effort. For example, some people would feel extremely weird and uncomfortable about themselves if someone they know who had a speech impediment most of their life has the audacity to start a RUclips channel and a podcast. Or someone with way less education than them decides to start an education company. We might as well live up to our fullest potential and not give much importance to what those types of people are saying.
Take up one idea *Make that one idea your life--think of it* dream of it, *live on that idea* Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success
It's interesting, my friends and family are always saying positive things, but I can tell they are just doing it to sound encouraging. They really don't show any interest or actions that they really believe in me. Example: My wife says positive things: Good job honey, I'm happy for you, that's good, etc. When I go to actually show her, she just stares at it and doesn't help with feedback, or anything else. My friend always talk about how they want to run their own businesses, but don't really care to talk about it any more than that.
The real problem is people needing other peoples approval. The majority of people are cowards and project that onto others to justify their choices in life.
Wow, I know a hardworking young man that is about to turn 18 in 2 weeks that wants to take his lawncare business to the next level.. he's feeling this way because of all the crabs and this video is exactly what may help him work through this. Thanks pat. I will share
I don’t know... I did it, thanks in part to you, Pat. But the stress and fluctuations income was too much for me without family support. Sadly, that’s how I must do all things in life though, so I’ll be back at it soon ✨
And then there's also the situation when people think that since you work from home, you can take a break any time to help them with their projects. I've seriously considered renting office space just to be more productive with my time.
Mmmmhhhhh : "when you do something, you either get the result you wanted, or the lesson you needed! So there are no losses! That may be 1 of the most powerful messages I've ever "felt" seriously
What a troll! How about whoever you are, stop making and using fake alt accounts to spam the comment section of this community. Most people in this community are wise enough, because of the real pat flynn, to notice what your trying here! Nobody's gonna add you, or click any links you have. So please stop "wasting your time" hmm how fitting!
it is horrible to go through it....so discouraging..3 and a half years later despite contracts growing I get the impression I'm not doing enough! oh well.. God is my encourager!
Sometimes it's because parents are afraid they have to pay to help you if your business struggles. So it's so much more convenient to tell you : "you're gonna fail".
Lets be honest though, if you're not taking care of your responsibilities their frustration is valid. Take care of your family first WHILE you're building your business.
It's hard to get away from your wife, she wants security and certainty, you want to succeed and leave a legacy for your family 👪. But you just need to push on.
Everybody laughs at me about partnerships and goes “haha go ahead and let me know how it works out.” As if i’d like to work with them once the wheels are rolling!!!
Feedback might be important sometimes. But other’s point of view aka « self biased judgement » are not accurate. Map is not the territory and everyone has his one map.
You still have to have the skill that lets you filter out genuine advice from people who want nothing but good for you and actual crab-like people though.
Think about this if you plan to actually manufacture in the U.S. in 2021: payroll tax, IRS, State tax, State Tax entity, unemployment tax, workman's comp insurance, liability insurance, auto insurance, umbrella insurance, business personal property tax, sales tax, internet costs, payroll, trash service, OSHA, EPA, State EPA, utilities, fuel costs, raw material costs spiraling out of control, starting wages that are astronomical for folks with no experience and questionable work ethic.... Oh, I am a progressive too. This isn't knee jerk Trumpite nonsense. This is real world folks.

When the business MAKES money 💰. People’s mindset changes

Keep it up MrJesse, remember that you are already amazing

If they are sabotaging you you shouldn’t be with them. Hard facts. Best of luck brother 💪
@@reviewsbyalpha it looks like thats what might happen. Not by my choice 😢

Been thinking about starting a small business lately ... then this gets reccomended?
Thank You, Almighty RUclips Algorithm.
(And thank you, Pat!)
The proper response to "You're wasting your time."
"It's my time to waste as I see fit."
My family has been supportive, except for when it comes to treating online business like "real" work. Since I don't leave the house and I don't have a dedicated office they frequently treat my work like it's just something I'm doing for fun. It's my biggest hurdle right now.

Try a coworking space. You can treat it as an open office with like minded people.

That is one of the very best lines I have ever come across, it really hit home this time. "Action is the best antidote to fear."
