Thank you! No wonder I have such a hard time with it.

I would like to do free motion stitching. People are telling me to “drop the feed dogs” before doing this type of stitching. I don’t see a switch for this. I also don’t have a cover plate for it. Any suggestions? Thx!

Thanks for the honest review! I received this machine as a gift and the presser foot lifter was broken off. Could you do a video on how to replace the presser foot lifter? I've got a replacement on order!

Hi Randy... could you kindly show us how to open and service a Singer Curvy Modell 8770? I would really appreciate it.

Sure. The next time I get one in the shop, I’ll do that for you. I don’t know when that will be, but I’ll be glad to.😎👍

Agree, I took the plate off to clean the fuzz out from the bobbin area. Unlike other models, the plate doesn't drop back in, it has this impossible little latch. The Curvy always gives me headaches.

Take it back and exchange it for another one. It was assembled improperly. I find it is very common with these “disposable “ type machines. What else will turn up later as a result of unskilled assembly?

What do you recommend for a good seeing machine? I have this model, it has done its time; I realize now, that this is a light-duty machine, afterburner bought it. I don't need heavy-duty; I just need a machine for regular sewing; making a few items, adjusting heroines and such. Thank you for any assistance you can give me.

Susan, I always recommend the old vintage Singers and Kenmores. Singer Slantamatics 401, 403, 404, 500-a, 503, 301, etc. All steel gears with an alloy metal frame. The Kenmore models that I like are the 158 series. Again, metal gears and alloy frame. These were produced in large numbers from the 50’s (Singer), through the seventies (Kenmore). Watch some of my other videos and I review them. If you’re looking for a new machine, Juki, Janome, Bernina, have some better made machines. I don’t recommend new Singers, Brother, Husqvarna/Viking. (And many other variations of the electronic/plastic configurations)

Thank you so very much! I have been researching a Juki model, and I don't know which one is best suited for the type of sewing I am doing. Do you recommend any certain models, for me? Obviously, it would be difficult to find a 1950s or 1960s model.
Currently, I have been sewing lots of face masks for family and friends. It becomes frustrating when my Singer Curvy, decides to constantly break the top thread, because the tension is continuously changing.

Susan, if you have a local dealer, sew on a few different machines and see how they perform. Let me know if I can assist in your choice. If I have the time and it works for you, I’ll give you my 2 cents.

Finding the quality machines from the fifties, sixties, and seventies, is a lot easier than you might think. They’re at almost every estate sale I visit as well as online. They made huge quantities of them and most of them are in someone’s closet or sewing room right now.

My bobbin winder stops after a few winds. All the lights come on, etc. and it just stops winding. I can sew - just can't wind the bobbin. Any ideas?

    • @randyyoursewingmachineman9954
      @randyyoursewingmachineman9954  Год назад

Not enough information on the malfunction to give any educated guesses.
Does it run in the wind mode with no bobbin on the winding post? That would be a bobbin issue.
Does it wind half full then shut off? That would be a stop post issue.
Does it run a few turns with or without the bobbin on the post and just stop, even though you’re still stepping on the foot control? That’s likely an electronic malfunction. (Good luck with that one)

I was looking at your you Tube that you fixed lots of Singer Curvy . Need help with fixing upper thread tension. You commented that with the Curvy machines that tension could have been assembled incorrectly at the factory

Yes. It’s funny.. I originally thought they were tested in a wind tunnel, so that they would be structurally strong aerodynamically, so when the upset owners flung them out of their upstairs windows they would glide completely out of the area. But then I thought naw, they’re just really shaped like a bar of soap. Much less effort required. Still basically disposable. LOL

*DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE - THEY ARE TOTAL PLASTIC CRAP* I bought one only to do buttonholes - my main machine is a 1957 Singer 191K Streight stitch
My old button hole machine was a worn-out 1963 communist machine - which I still have to use 50% of the time cos the Singer Curvy wont sew more than 2 layers of thin wool.
It is as plastic as a cheap Chinese kids toy. I can not imagine it lasting its warranty period.
