I think Anthony is missing the focal point conceptually, from dark to light, that this era of A.I./glitch princess is inching towards and yearning more and more for humanness.. Hence the now light cover, the more human appearance Yeule dawns this time, and the incorporation of way more live instruments and raw vocals. We have witnessed this A.I. grow.. this is the outcome, a checkpoint. Softscars x
the grimes comparison at the beginning is funny bc yeule was directly inspired by grimes to become a producer. cool to see how theyve evolved into their own sound.
My album of the year tbh. Fucking beautiful. I think the humanity showing through on a lot of these songs that was absent from the previous album makes it a more lush, emotional listen.

I'm not sure why everyone wants to hear the same sound they've been doing for years. I think the rock-centric sound works perfectly with their persona as an artist even if it's just for one album.
I would say it fleshes her sound out even more. I kinda disagree with Fantano and think that there’s still enough glimpses of Glitch Princess’s sound to keep any fan of that album happy.
@@CyranoForever101Fantano gave a 7 to the album. That is a good score. And his criticsm didn't rely on shoegaze rock being generic, but that yeule even if crafting a good album out of that genre, is not bringing a super refreshing spin of it or keeping her persona. Still, he gave it a 7 guys 😭
The crazy thing is that to me, the rock instrumentation on this album takes such a huge backseat to really alien, atmospheric analogue synths and I think that's what makes this album so special beyond the brilliant songwriting.
A 9 is way too high, I've rated the album myself and gave it a 7.53, it's pretty good but there are much better albums out there, I like her unique sound though.
Played this album three times in a row the day it came out because it was such a mind blow. Granted, I’m a XXXXL Yeule fan to begin with, but I was very surprised and satisfied by this. I thought she was going to lean in a more acoustic direction taking into consideration Don’t Be So Hard On Your Own Beauty and Nat’s comments on it when Glutch Princess dropped. But this album definitely hits me in the feels musically alone because of my love for both alternative rock and electronic music. I give it a strong 9.
i think yeule perfectly mixed the ambient pop with rock and almost a shoegaze sound, especially when it comes to the themes of the album, it fits perfectly in my opinion
You know, I wasn't sure of this at first because of how much I adored their ambient stuff on Serotonin II, but this album has grown on me tremendously. This is a great style for yeule, and I love how many small details of their signature "style" appear in the background on many songs. Definitely a contender for my top 20 albums this year
Can't believe you're reviewing this album, my personal fav of the year, and I've been playing this album on repeat since I got it. Going to see them this Saturday at the Glasshouse and I'm super excited, first time seeing them live.
i first heard cyber meat after my mum died, where in i couldn't sleep for two days after wards and i just laid there listing to songs around how i feel. I think cyber meat perfectly blends that feel of anger and sadness in a melancholic was perfectly, unaware of this "story" going on i felt some of the lyric such as "why don't i smile" really resonated with the mind set that i was in.
Wasn’t really impressed by this album. Sure it had some nice moments and interesting production in parts, but not really seeing how it tops other obvious album of the year contenders.
Glitch Princess was such a unique experience but I felt like there was more to explore and I was a little disappointed to learn softscars is much different.
I genuinely love this album so much. I am so proud of Yeule for branching out. On some songs it definitely is a bit hard to get used to but I feel like they did pretty great. I do hope as well they keep their ethereal/ electronic pop vibe but this album shows us what they’re trying to tell which is cool.
Inferno is amazing probably one of my favourites the thumping pulsing beat, the gorgeous vocals I swear yeule is their own genre is that weird? Kinda like Bjork And fka twigs back in the arca days
This my aoty it's so impressive to see Yeule push their sound and making each album a progressive step in their journey. Still prefer glitch princess tho.
Identity forming seems to be a theme in their projects, both online and in the world. Whereas Glitch Princess is discussing the nuance between identity and tech, this album seems to be very rooted in humanity. The screaming in the background feels very primal. There's a lot of incredibly raw unprocessed pain. How do you create identity when the pain of being human keeps you from being seen? Their lines "Only eyes like yours can see ghosts. Ghosts like me. If only I could be Real enough to love" seem to support that.
Is that a bad thing though? There’re a lot of good/great albums with lyrics so juvenile that they border on embarrassing. There are a lot of songs on “Rumors” that I find to be quite childish-not to surprised that they all came from Mr Lindsey Buckingham though-Yet they’re still pretty good songs. Plus I find the soul-barring lyrics on “Softscars” to be quite endearing. Not all art has to presented in a mature way to be appealing.
This is all I’ve been listening to pretty much all year since she’s been slowly releasing tracks back in May. Was not disappointed when it fully dropped. Saw her on tour bc I could not have missed hearing these songs live that I’ve been obsessing over the entire year. The opener is so good and really sets the tone for what’s to come so idk what this thumb is talking about.
Album of the year in my opinion! Such a well crafted record and definitely Yeule's best so far. 🖤🖤🖤 Also I appreciate how your outfit kinda fits the colors on the cover 😎
yeule needed to change their sound and the probable options were to expand upon the already existing sound or go in a new direction. I think overall this change in direction was the safest choice for yeule, but furthering the sound (it it's even possible) of what set them apart on the first two albums could yield greater success. Still a solid record nonetheless, bit messy in places tho
This was definitely a good introduction to Yeule's discography, i've been loving everything this project offers so far. I do have to agree that the slight change in the sound really shifted the overall futuristic dystopian vibe, but this is still a nice change of phase from what Yeule has been doing for a while. I'll be eager to see what would the next project sound like. Nice review as always Anthony 👍
9/10 at least. Imagine when AI and other artists are making this type of music in 2050 this is an iconic moment. This is a benchmark of what is to come.
I definitely feel it’s a a decent to strong 8 easily I’ve been loving more with each listen the only problem I have with the album is I don’t really feel the title track.
