Just bought 2 off ebay. Looks to be the same model. I payed $440 this quarter and its just me in the house. Woah, 2400W for an electric kettle vs 1000W for a stove top.
So Australian wall plugs don't allow you to have an appliance plugged in but switched off? You can do that in the UK. So you can keep your washing machine plugged in but with the plug switched off. If every Aussie household washing machine is wasting 4 watts 24/7, what's that in total for the nation? A lot.
Does the timer go for weeks or months? Or does the timer just become 00.00.00 after e.g. 5 hours?

Hello, I have one of these devices, it works pretty well, but like many people who have one there is something that I can't understand, why do you have to, when you want to reset it to start a new month for example, or to change the device to be measured or anything else requiring a reset, whether we have to enter the Kwh price again, this price does not vary (or very little, probably more from the next year) but each time it is necessary to indicate the amount of this value again, is it not possible to ensure that the counter is reset to zero without having to re-indicate the price of the kWh?

So...what you forget to mention is how to actually calculate the cost. The example that you give with the kettle is invalid because drawing 1000W or even 2000W for 3-5 minutes i guarantee that it wont cost $1. The way to calculate this is: Wattage x hours : 1000 x cost of electricity. So that means your fridge that draws 200w and it works for 24 hours it will cost you:
200W x 24 hours :1000 x 0.10cents per KWh = 0.48 cents a day (always depends on where you live and how much you pay for a KWh in your area). And for the electric kettle if you turn it on for 5 minutes and it needs 2000Watts the calculation goes: 2000W x 0.12hours (which is 5 minutes) : 1000 x 0.10 cents per KWh = 0.024 cents. So its not that bad how you make it seem...just saying.
I love those switches you have over there. Totally disconnects device, so no wasted power or chance of an internal short or failure causing a fire. BTW I hope you had something in the microwave. Bad to turn one on with it empty.
You seem to have some confusion with the vacuum cleaner, it was using 1100w, not 110. Also, if you look at a device taking a couple of watts on standby then it's really not too significant. 2W for a year 24/7 would cost around 1 GBP for the year. Boiling a kettle is around 0.01GBP per use so not really worth the hassle of using gas.I agree about the fridge freezer though, that's bad.

W-the kettle to save even more money. Try what I do.. Use a thermos in between boils. Save on power & gas!
Btw, I bought a meter that looks the same as yours [Aussie as well] Have you programed it for cost yet?
Know I haven't even bothered to even programming it. I just write down the Killer what's that it's concerned through the month and go from my electricity bill.
Shows how hard the display is to read on this. Apparently a newer model has a much-needed backlight.
Sorry for the wrong phrasing of my question yesterday. I got a reading of 1.427KWh for 10.21hrs for my refrigerator. Does this mean the per hour consumption is 1.427/10.21 = 0.139765? And for 24 hours it would be 3.354? Thank you.
i tested this with some devices it worked fine. when i tried with microwave, the microwave had sparks and was functioning as if it does not have enough current. luckily the microwave still works once i pulled this out and connected the microwave directly to the wall switch. any idea?

I have been running this unit for 4 years straight no problems whatsoever.
Love the display and reading that I get from this unit.
I find it to be a very handy tool to tell you exactly what you're electrical components are currently using from the outlet.
I will say I have come across some faults like the inner terminal battery not working to save memory and some people have experience others read the comments below.

I think I ended up purchasing the same one but 120V version for me
After using with one device, I am trying to refresh time and watt consumption but could not. I am pressing reset (cost) and function button but time consumption is showing old time. I am also trying to using two pin refrigerator plug but the meter does not work there.

It stores the information when it's been removed has an internal battery

i bought this socket power meter but its battery is low....
scren display is dim....reading is not visible....tell what type of cell i can use to change the cell...
further is it chargeable cells or not???
One out of the two that I purchased I had the same problem.
The internal battery is generally charging when plugged in.
But in my case and possibly maybe yours to internal battery will need to be replaced.
May require some soldering iron skills tho.

Depending which type of AC unit your testing split systems are cheaper than box window fitted unit's also portable AC units.
Wow! 3.2 watts on this oven just plugged when you make calculations: 3.2 X 24 = 76.8watts daily , in a year is aprox. 25,804.8 watts and this is only the oven there's a lot of electronic devices on home that are on standby mode all the time.

Does this device protect devices from high voltage?
Unfortunately no it will not protect your devices.
It only measures power consumption.
can you leave it there for a whole month? and use it as a mini submeter?
You can leave the device plugged in 24/7 to monitor any electricity device.
I've been using them for my grid tie inverters for the last 5 years now.
So I can see exactly what they're doing.
They are a great invention easy-to-read love them.

Your fridge is way too close to the wall. The compressor needs some space to vent to work efficiently. This will just make it work harder, using more power & possibly shortening its life by a couple of years.

This device is not particularly strong in that feature.
That's why I don't really discuss it that much.
But it will count the kilowatts correctly, though.
have you tried it on aircon for quite some time? does it heat up?
I have used them on a air conditioner system they are very safe.Know signs of them heating up or not even getting warm I'm still using them today.

Can someone confirm that the hertz function is just a dummy and doesnt actually display real hertz value?... i bought 1 of these and hertz always stays at 60..exactly...i plugged it into a generator that i know was not 60hz and it showed 60
They have a small rechargeable NiMh battery inside. Mine died and leaked battery contents over the circuit board leads and ate them away. It no longer works.
I also have one internal battery that has died but didn't leak.
@@xtrongarage9666 You are lucky. I can't decide where the eaten-away leads once went. I am trying to replace the vanished leads, but might have to take a guess. It might blow up!

not reliable type of tester, switch for a few days found arcing at the neutral line and failed.
Funny never experienced anything like that.
Besides the internal battery not working that's the only fault Iv have came across.

My security camera HD shows 5.820 kwh for 8 days cost shows 207.7
Surely tbis cant be $207.70 fot the 8 days @35.70 c per kwh0
I've never found that particular function to be accurate.
That's why I don't talk about it much in the video.
I just mentioned it has the feature.
If you put in 35.70c/kwh, then the calculated cost is in cents, i.e. 207.7c or $2.077.
Not 111 watts, its 1112 watts.

@@xtrongarage9666 cool. I need to get one. Our average bill is 300 to 350. We just got billed for 1300.. and nothing has changed much in terms of usage. If anything we have less ppl in the house. A few early mornings when i go outside to go work.. i can hear the loud static coming from the power pole my electrical line is connected to. Happens on windy days
There great device that can teach us alot about our appliances and how they use electricity. It can even show us when you're appliances are outdated because of consumption.
Because of this appliance alone I have updated my fridge TV and washing machine because of over consumption.
bigclivedotcom here on RUclips thinks it is pretty accurate (he tears down electronics to see how well they're made). I'm probably getting one soon.

exactly.... I have 3 of these devices which came with no instructions how to program cost into it. I've watched 3 videos and none of them explain that either..... wtf? If you hold the cost button down it begins to flash, and you'd think using the up/down buttons would allow you to adjust cost, but they do nothing when pressed.
We can connect it with a senser or I/o .
blenderbender idk if you figured it out yet but after you the cost button and the things start flashing, press the function button
I LIKE that it was basic and simple. Finally I found a tutorial that shows the simple; all I needed. I just wanted to figure out which appliances used the most electricity. I'm thankful for this video that makes it simple!
