Scott has always had that grit and rasp, he just doesn’t choose to use it very often. If you go all the way back to The Sing Off, specifically Love Lockdown and Dog Days are Over, he uses the same effect. It’s my favorite style he sings in - so powerful. I love your reactions and the professional observations you bring. Thank you!
Scott has had that grit since very early on (although honed it a bit more). I just think he's using it more nowdays. Especially on some of his solo songs. I've always loved it. I've seen him do it in the past in one-off videos performing with friends. But I do think he has used the grit here and there in Pentatonix as well. The production differences you're noticing as well is likely because they have left the label with their non-christmas stuff (still with RCA for christmas) and Scott and/or Pentatonix are written as the producers (or co-producers) for some recent stuff. They in general seem to be playing around a bit more and being in a transitional phase. Interested in where it will land.
I'm so happy they've finally managed to gain a way to be more creative with their music. Each of them are hugely creative people and have solo stuff ( Matt hasn't produced anything yet, but I hear it's in the works) and now they can fully explore their combined and separate potentials. It's so exciting!!
Such an amazing, uplifting, go-get-em kind of song!! I was so honored to be among the first to hear the full song before it was released on the first stop of their US tour in August. Scott posted in his stories on Instagram about how the song encourages us to face any and all obstacles in life head-on and say "bring it on"! Such an anthem!
Yes, LOVE the grit and the growl in Scott's voice, and the melodies and harmonies in this song are EPIC!!! Love the message of this song too. Reminds me of Queens song " We are the Champions" that has that anthem , call to action vibe, or more of a "statement" of who they are and what they are about, unafraid of facing the tough stuff in life. This song will be a long time classic like Queen's song. Thanks, Jacob. Always appreciate your opinion.
I'm really happy that you liked this so much. It's really an anthem for them! And shows us once again that they're capable of so much more. Have you checked out and of Scott's solo album, Parallel, yet?
Thank you for reacting to this. Great breakdown. I feel like they are talking about themselves fighting to get the respect they deserve being an a cappella band. If you like Scott’s voice in this one, hang on to your horses when you hear his new original music from his album. My fave is “Four”which is a love song to his husband Mark. So good to see you reacting to PTX again.
Glad you are back to Pentatonix again! I'd love you to react to Mitch Grassi's recent solo stuff too (under the Messer name) he has just released 3 songs over the past 3 months, and a 4th is coming out next Friday. 'Agony' was the most recent and is fantastic.
When they don’t do a video it really hinders their views, at least that’s my opinion. I agree that this is amazing and should have millions of views. Also this love is phenomenal!
Glad to see you back! If you haven’t heard or don’t remember….the NFL used the PTX song for their opening. This song makes me think of something like that! It’s powerful!
Wow! I knew I loved that part of the song where you explained Scott left the key for a second! Made complete sense!! They are releasing their own originals outside of Christmas, so gotta say the production was fantastic!
glad to hear a reaction where the reactor isn't complaining that the song is too "Scott heavy." I mean, how can anyone argue with that voice? Love it! There are plenty of songs where each of them shines.
Scott said that his voice is the best it’s ever been since he stopped drinking (alcohol). I think he is taking really good care of himself and it shows in his vocals.
They wrote this to use in the opening medley of the US leg of this year's World Tour, to get the crowd pumped up. There are live fan-recorded videos from some concerts on RUclips. Live, they use a pre-recorded percussion track so that Matt and Kevin can help with the layered vocals. And Scott does his lead slightly differently in each performance.
Sincerely swapped my favorite to Scott, not like I don't love all of them to bits. I absolutely agree with you, this needs to be on a movie trailer for hype, on a fight scene prep on a battle movie, absolutely a hype song.
Where have all the Pentaholics been???!!! This song is breathtakingly good. Are they still on vacation? Have they abdicated for other groups?? What's up with this??
It has more listens on other platforms. Over 1,5 mil on spotify for example. Usually is that way when there is no official video. That plus them not having been super active with their non-christmas stuff and the lower numbers make sense. And I saw many complain that it was another Scott lead or "not the Pentatonix they know". Which, I get, but am also very aware that they are in a transitional phase so am withholding judgement.
There's been a few who are disgruntled that Scott has been leading a lot in the last few months, but I think that will change in the coming Christmas season. After all, Scott just dropped a solo album full of great music, has written a LOT of songs during the Covid hiatus and just got married, so he's been in the public image more that the rest have. Also, some Pentaholics aren't happy with the new directions and evolving happening with the group. I'm actually happy to see them all pushing the envelope and being their creative selves. A stagnant group will just die out. PTX has so many incredibly creative people and they all are capable of producing wonderful new pieces ..and I want to be here for it.
@@Gwennedd I could not agree more with your statement that “a stagnant group will die out”…12 years and still going! They are so creative individually, but the fun they have with each other on stage is magical…if I’ve learned anything from PTX, it’s to be open to change.

I saw them live in August. This was amazing live and Scott singing this live OMG!!!!! 🔥 🔥 🔥
Raleigh NC -- yes great concert!!
I was at the Charlotte concert. They really did do a great job singing this as well as everything else 👏 💜
Every live concert video I've seen of this song looks like they have glorious fun performing it! ❤

I love this Pentatonix original song. Thanks for reacting to it.
Thank you

I’m rewatching your PTX reactions

This immediately took me to Avi Kaplan's "Change on the Rise" from March 2019
Thanks. Great reaction. Scott also had that grit and emotion in Prayers for this World (you reacted to). They all did.
I love this original! This could be an anthem…
They did this song as their second song 2 weeks ago when I saw them. It was awesome
Glad you are back to Pentatonix again!

I've missed you! Welcome back! 💖
😊 thank you

Glad you're back!
Me too!
Great reaction! They have so many amazing songs.

Loved it! One of, if not, their best! Could you please react to Dan Vasc singing "Loch Lomond". So beautiful! 💙
Recommend their cover of Come Along.
