My chest vibration ends notes like a4 and i pass head register but probably i can show them like full voices not falsettos. For example d5 note, i can sing this note in falsetto but i can push my diaphram and then voice sounds like a full not falsetto.

You'll never believe that's a baritone, but it is. Other baritones who can sing crazy high are Chris Cornell, Eric Adams, Brian Johnson, and many others!

Since lot of people ask this question, as a lyric singer, I'm gonna answer :) Chris Colfer has a great voice, this is sure. However, he's a countertenor, his range is not something theoretically impossible. Many men sing like this, even though they do in classic style (for Haendel's, Purcell's music, for example). By the way, we can easily hear the difference between his low register (which is a totally to be expected for a male tenor) and his falsetto, when he starts singing in the head register (I think we can say it this way in english - I'm french) and uses the technic we already spoke about : the countertenor's technic. So, it's important to stop pretending he's a "male soprano", because it's wrong ; he's a countertenor. So, he can be a "sopranist" (a type of countertenor, because those can be more or less low depending on each singer who uses this technic) but not a "soprano", because it's not the same (soprano designs a voice which sounds like a girl's one and Chris Colfer's, even in the high register, is a male voice). But please, notice that "sopranist" is a really unacademic term, really recent. "Countertenor" is the most appropriate term. Eventually, yes, he says he's a tenor, and he is. Countertenor can be bass, barytone... The upper register "coexists" with the lower one. In classic music, Philippe Jaroussky, Max Emmanuel Cencic or Franco Fagioli are countertenors. So as Chris Colfer. You can listen to them to understand better what it means (quiet complex, isn't it ?).
Josh Perry Hé hé ! I have to admit it'a real particular case. A friend of mine which is lyric singer told me a computer helps his voice to be more female but I don't agree, I think it's actually his voice without any subterfuge !! However, believe me, he wouldn't be able to sign songs Amber Riley sings, with high notes, or maybe but without the sound we are looking for in this kind of music ; it would not be a "female" high note you know. When Chris Colfer and Lea Michele who are such incredible singers song the high f in Defying gravity, it doesn't sound the same at all !!! I think it's quiet the same with Alex Newell. If he had learnt classic music with the voice he uses to sign like we usually hear him, he would absolutely not have been able to sing the soprano parts or the mezzo parts (have a look on some arias and you will understand if you don't know what I'm talking about !!). But like you said, he's a case and even if it's not like a female voice (moreover he doesn't sing classical music so it's more complicated to analyse because the landmarks - can I use this word ? I'm French - are more blurred) he has a particular voice construction.
Vincent Frieden Thanks! I hear alot how he is a Sopranist which is a specific countertenor and basically which is equivalent to a Soprano for a Female. I listen to alot of arias before for the countertenor voice. I had to analyze the voice because I had a similiar sound. I always was tease for having such a girly tone. Matter of fact I'm A Countertenor/Sopranist myself I have sort of the same texture sound like between chris colfer and alex newell. Except my range is wider then Chris Colfer. My Low Notes does go down to A2 but you can barely hear it and I never sing at low ever. My Chest usually starts at around E3-G3 and expands up to a piercing A5-B5 but head reaching up to D6. I barely use falsetto ever.
Yay an updated version! His low/belted notes in the later seasons of the show are so yummy! I could listen to them all day. They get so overshadowed by the hype of his high voice (as great as it is).
I have often said he may not be the most talented member discovered in Glee, but he is the most unique talent discovered in Glee. there is sort of an elfin magic in his performances which makes him impossible not to watch on screen.
Growing up, I was a countertenor with slightly lower register... D2 to Bb5, so I know his voice is amazing and wonderful. I just I had people in my life then who saw the beauty of a true countertenor voice like Chris does now. As talented as this man is, he needs to continue singing for many years to come so we can all hear that glorious voice. BTW, I’m fully team Hevans, wishing the Klainewreck never happened.

Eula Chaves Usually, tenors and altos are really close in range. Altos are F3-F5 and tenors are C3-C5, but Chris is a countertenor, so his range is E3-E5, or sometimes the same range as an alto (it depends) You're probably a contralto, which is lower than alto, where you might match up with him. A contralto's range is usually D3-D5
Yeah, I am a lower alto, probably a contralto :P I've sung tenor before when there were no guys available, but my choir is so small that we can't really divide into very specific voice parts. My range is something like a D3 to a Bb5, but I've been known to go lower on good days.

You are right l was listening to dramatic contralto Gwendolyn Brown sing contemporary and she sounds similar to Unique. Male Counter tenor and female contralto voices actually share the same range and tonal qualities

Light bright resonant head voice and falsetto and can stay in that range without fatigue and comfortable singing in that range for a long period of time. Vocal Negatives: Voice tone is not everyone’s taste and the voice gets overly piercing and shrill sometimes.

I am a real alto (contralto) so my range is identical to Chris’. Still working on bringing up my chest voice as much as possible. Toni B does it with no effort. Check out her latest album which is more pop I really adore the male baritone voice, especially lyrics. I like hearing ones with a dark, mellow tone (ex: Finneas). Romantic and manly!!!

My chest vibration ends notes like a4 and i pass head register but probably i can show them like full voices not falsettos. For example d5 note, i can sing this note in falsetto but i can push my diaphram and then voice sounds like a full not falsetto.
Amore Arusko understood it. Many rock and metal vocalists scream on fifth octave but their natural voice changes and become thinner like me. So im not tenor i know.

Amore Arusko Tell that to Geoff Tate of Queensryche! Baritone who can sing into the fifth octave extremely easily. Listen to the song Queen of the Reich. You'll never believe that's a baritone, but it is. Other baritones who can sing crazy high are Chris Cornell, Eric Adams, Brian Johnson, and many others!
hes actually able to hit a Bb5 live, and i believe he can hit up to D#6
this video focuses on the vocals in glee, so if he was able to hit a bb5, it wouldn't be in here, unless it was in the original glee show

Since lot of people ask this question, as a lyric singer, I'm gonna answer :)
Chris Colfer has a great voice, this is sure. However, he's a countertenor, his range is not something theoretically impossible. Many men sing like this, even though they do in classic style (for Haendel's, Purcell's music, for example).
By the way, we can easily hear the difference between his low register (which is a totally to be expected for a male tenor) and his falsetto, when he starts singing in the head register (I think we can say it this way in english - I'm french) and uses the technic we already spoke about : the countertenor's technic.
So, it's important to stop pretending he's a "male soprano", because it's wrong ; he's a countertenor. So, he can be a "sopranist" (a type of countertenor, because those can be more or less low depending on each singer who uses this technic) but not a "soprano", because it's not the same (soprano designs a voice which sounds like a girl's one and Chris Colfer's, even in the high register, is a male voice). But please, notice that "sopranist" is a really unacademic term, really recent. "Countertenor" is the most appropriate term.
Eventually, yes, he says he's a tenor, and he is. Countertenor can be bass, barytone... The upper register "coexists" with the lower one.
In classic music, Philippe Jaroussky, Max Emmanuel Cencic or Franco Fagioli are countertenors. So as Chris Colfer. You can listen to them to understand better what it means (quiet complex, isn't it ?).

Josh Perry Hé hé ! I have to admit it'a real particular case. A friend of mine which is lyric singer told me a computer helps his voice to be more female but I don't agree, I think it's actually his voice without any subterfuge !! However, believe me, he wouldn't be able to sign songs Amber Riley sings, with high notes, or maybe but without the sound we are looking for in this kind of music ; it would not be a "female" high note you know. When Chris Colfer and Lea Michele who are such incredible singers song the high f in Defying gravity, it doesn't sound the same at all !!! I think it's quiet the same with Alex Newell. If he had learnt classic music with the voice he uses to sign like we usually hear him, he would absolutely not have been able to sing the soprano parts or the mezzo parts (have a look on some arias and you will understand if you don't know what I'm talking about !!). But like you said, he's a case and even if it's not like a female voice (moreover he doesn't sing classical music so it's more complicated to analyse because the landmarks - can I use this word ? I'm French - are more blurred) he has a particular voice construction.
Vincent Frieden Thanks! I hear alot how he is a Sopranist which is a specific countertenor and basically which is equivalent to a Soprano for a Female. I listen to alot of arias before for the countertenor voice. I had to analyze the voice because I had a similiar sound. I always was tease for having such a girly tone. Matter of fact I'm A Countertenor/Sopranist myself I have sort of the same texture sound like between chris colfer and alex newell. Except my range is wider then Chris Colfer. My Low Notes does go down to A2 but you can barely hear it and I never sing at low ever. My Chest usually starts at around E3-G3 and expands up to a piercing A5-B5 but head reaching up to D6. I barely use falsetto ever.
He’s actually really attractive. If you were to guess his voice without hearing it you’d think like a really deep and manly voice.

I have often said he may not be the most talented member discovered in Glee, but he is the most unique talent discovered in Glee. there is sort of an elfin magic in his performances which makes him impossible not to watch on screen.
Growing up, I was a countertenor with slightly lower register... D2 to Bb5, so I know his voice is amazing and wonderful. I just I had people in my life then who saw the beauty of a true countertenor voice like Chris does now. As talented as this man is, he needs to continue singing for many years to come so we can all hear that glorious voice. BTW, I’m fully team Hevans, wishing the Klainewreck never happened.

Eula Chaves Usually, tenors and altos are really close in range. Altos are F3-F5 and tenors are C3-C5, but Chris is a countertenor, so his range is E3-E5, or sometimes the same range as an alto (it depends) You're probably a contralto, which is lower than alto, where you might match up with him. A contralto's range is usually D3-D5
Yeah, I am a lower alto, probably a contralto :P I've sung tenor before when there were no guys available, but my choir is so small that we can't really divide into very specific voice parts. My range is something like a D3 to a Bb5, but I've been known to go lower on good days.

I am a real alto (contralto) so my range is identical to Chris’. Still working on bringing up my chest voice as much as possible. Toni B does it with no effort. Check out her latest album which is more pop
