many times I've had repaired cells in new ze1 leafs with leakage from the corners, the cells have really bad hermetization and in 99.9% cases they are quickly repaired by proper sealant. So I insist on disassembling the pack and see what is going on with P0AA6. Anyway everything is going on for the greater good!))
What is P0AA6? I had no idea. Searches….. hope this helps someone ‘DTC P0AA6 stands for “Hybrid Battery Voltage System Isolation Fault” This code is logged when the PCM detects an isolation fault in the high-voltage system. Possible causes include issues with the high-voltage battery and/or cables, as well as problems with the battery control module. Common symptoms include lit warning lights, a battery that doesn’t charge, and vehicle startup issues.’
Just reading this comment… i am thinking to buy this car with what appears to be a dropped cell (44) Im paying someone a days rate to fix it. Should i have a spare cell ready or ask them to charge it seperate as long as its not damaged..
Love the fact the 30kWh battery has the "don't put in a wheelie bin" symbol. Good advice, I got loads of grief from the dust men last time I tried that ;)
Don't give up. The battery can be fixed. Rustproofing battery and car is a great idea. I had my 2012.09 Leaf fully coated with Mercasol when it was new. After over 60000km in just over 1,5 years the underside still looked new. (South-West coast of Norway..) Now there is a lot of Gen 1 Leafs that are being crushed here as they have been used up. Batteries with 3-5 bars, no brakes, fully worn out suspensions, etc.. Soon the Gen1 Leafs will be no more.
Hi Dala, no luck this time but keep in mind you are doing a so great job that help all of us. Maybe, could swap good cells from the 40 to the bad 62. Why not? Hope you will find a solution, I'm sure you will because we are wainting for the CCS study.......I joke, just putting some pressure. Thanks for everything you share with us. Keep your good attitude, make the world a little bit better.
Thank you Dala for walking us through this painful lesson. I was just weighing whether or not to have a used 62 kWh battery installed and now I am thinking the better of it.
As long as it is not crashed hard it should be no issue! Most scrapyards have a 30day return warranty, which would have helped here. Also quick test with multimeter at service disconnect location will tell you if there is a leak!
I'm sorry to hear about your pain, Dala! This is real life, and sometimes we don't get to use shortcuts. This 62kWh battery upgrade is one that many people will seriously consider, which is realistically a dependency before it's worth it going ahead with any CSS-related mods. On the bright side, it makes for excellent video material! :-)
9:02 from leafspy it shows 4 cells, if the layout in bms is kept the same then cells 1-48 is rear stacks. in 64kwh pack there are 4 towered stacks in rear. The faulty ones are in the first stack then.. the good news is that unlike the 24kwh pack - faulty ones cant push on everything when expanding. Only their tower. So if you can source one good rear towerstackj, it can be replaced :) Did the pack have any dents in it? Or maybe marks undenting.. as it's the first pack - it might be some collision damage that some corner hit the tower of cells.
We live in New Hampshire. Rust is a major issue here, too. FWIW your videos are helping me to navigate the tricky purchase of a used Leaf with a plan to improve the battery. I have great confidence you will bounce back from this challenging set back.
Hope you get good luck next time. A lesson to learn for all of us when buying refurbished batteries. Your videos are a great help for us. Maybe this is why repackaging is sometimes better than to get these refurbished OEM ones. With repackaging you can get newer cell chemistries like NCM811 and you know the condition those cells are in. Plenty of space for even more than 62kWh as new cells like NCM811 has higher energy densities than OEM Nissan ones. Then it all comes down to how you mount the cells/modules securely and distribute weight like in OEM modules. There's space for liquid cooling/heating even if you use 355 modules.
A mere battery will not defeat Dala the Great! Hope you find the problem quickly and easy to fix.. we always learn something from your pain.. thanks for sharing!
It's always the way when you're attempting to do the impossible, that you will have setbacks. Take encouragement from the fact that you have managed to fit the battery into the car in the first place. I'm sure you will find cells to replace the broken ones or another battery. As we say in England.....'chin up'.
Really nice rustproofing Dala. Sorry to hear about the cells. If the module can't be fixed, keep an eye out, one will turn up, or find another whole bad 62 pack. Then you're the guy in Europe with spare 62 modules! In my stationary storage, I have 2x 7s modules from a 62kWh pack (not sure if shipping is worth it or possible, but I would send if you need, I guess they're in good condition). But it looks like you need a 9s module.
So sorry mate. I feel your pain. Big Q is how those lemons can turn into lemonade. Your content is amazing and the only channel that I have the notification bell on, keep it up!
Sorry for your pain Dala. Sometimes bad things happen to good people.Sorry again. 40 goes back in while you source parts to repair your 62. Once you confirm what has failed ,and what you need to get it going again, I am sure people will come forward with the parts you need. Perseverance prevails.
I am so sorry to hear about the bad battery, when you put all that effort into it, I think there are a couple of companies starting to make the legacy Leaf battery from a NZ youtube channel I was watching
What a pain! I would love to see a tear down and bad cell identification video of the battery pack. Fingers crossed you can get hold of replacement cells.
If there is someone who has the skills and attitude to overcome this problem is you. Maybe you have luck when opening the battery pack you find the leakage not inside the cell but any interconnection module strap or BMS connector... Cheers
Too bad! You can use it to make some powerwalls and sell them to some solar nerds, maybe 4-5 pcs and some additional material snd maybe some bms if needed, that would be awesome project to watch
Mit Kuhlu from Australia. You are a Fin and Fins never fail. You had a sh|t day but you will bounce back. Good luck and if you ever visit Perth I'll buy you Finlandia and dinner.
A pioneers life is not easy. Thank you for taking the slings & arrows so we don't have to! 🏹 On a positive note the 62kWh batteries should be more available in the future as these cars age out.
if you do split the pack and find the broken cells, you may be able to get replacements internationally, as that may be a quicker way of getting your 62kwh pack running. otherwise you could sell your cells to recoup some (all?) your costs. Best of luck Dala

Sometimes it helps just to open the pack and remove the cells, get them rebalanced and reinstall. Properly torque all connectors. A lot of work, but no expensive replacement parts needed.
That sucks... 😩 Maybe moisture got in the pack, or faulty BMS? I think you should start with taking the battery apart as soon as possible. Might be an easy fix after all and no need for new cells.
Damn that's sad news. sorry it did not work. but I am insanely impressed with the fact that it said 200 km with the old pack. it is a real pity that diagnosing a batterypack isn't a thing until it is in the car. for reference I'm getting 60 km/charge in a 85% soh battery when charging to 80% so you still have a highly usable car.
Buy Fluke 1507 to check isolation before installing the battery. I think installing 40kWh back and investigating the issue is way to go. I feel your pain, because I just repaired my Focus Electric isolation issue. Maybe you have to open bursted modules and renew those dead cells. But do not worry, we EV enthusiasts need these kind of experiences to learn about working with these. It feels bad now, but will give you knowledge to the future. Good thing is, that you can put old battery back and drive, I had to keep car in garage and drive with diesel so it was little expensive to had my EV stalling for a while. Hope you have problem investigated soon!
There is a connection to the chassis, cells that have lower voltage are being discharged over voltage measurement circuit. Remove the electronics if you wanna stop cells over discharging exceeding lower cut off limits. Check voltage between + and chassis, and - and chassis.
Hi Dala, I always watch and enjoy your content. You put in great efforts and are very good at what you do. Surely, it is a leak in the cells. In Canada, US, UK, shops that are doing the battery swap are adding a custom electronic obd 2 module between the battery connector and the car. The BCG is an electronic module installed between the vehicle and the new battery to convert the computer language of the information that is communicated by the battery to make it compatible with the year and the vehicle equipment. Did you install such a module? Perhaps your battery is not as bad as you think.
Does your region salt the roads in winter? I'm wondering how rusty my 10 year old Leaf is likely to be. Maybe it doesn't matter, hyundai ioniq 38kwhs are coming on the used market for reasonable prices.
You seem concerned about an extra coat of paint causing battery overheat issues but surely the sound insulating nitrile pads are also heat insulating ?
I hope you will find an insulation issue outside of the cells themselves. Otherwise your best approach might be to sell off the good cells and you should get most or even all your money back in exchange for a lot of work - especially is the cells are rare.
Hi Dala What about just bypassing the bad cells altogether ? (until you can get the replacements) Of course the BMS wire will have to be dealt with... I am just raising this possible workaround, in case your knoledge of the battery tells you it's worth trying.

The rust on the underside of the car is not so bad..just scrape off the worst of the rust flakes and use thin corrosion threatment. Let it soak in for a day or two and give it one more threatment. It should just be wet layers and if it is against the road u top up with a harder layer.
Great videos. So much work, I hope you'll find some spare modules soon. You seem to know the Leaf through out - I'm installing parking sensors in my one is there any way you can think of telling the system car is in "D"? In my tekna "D" allows you to use frontcam and goes off when accelerating I wonder if this could be used?
I'm just curious if you look into the future a few years, is it possible to replace all the cells inside the back with cells that are not from Nissan? I'm think which second hand car to buy and if the battery is so limited that I can only ever be filled with Nissan cells that is a shame when you think about 10 years in the future then the car will be stuck in time.

My friend bought a 62kw battery there was water inside fortunately it was not a lot so the cells were not damaged.
Battery capacity is measured in kWh, not "kw".

New video series, Dala power up a 64 battery!😉😂😍😍😍
Can you use Leaf-springs when upgradimg the battery?🤗
I vote 40kWh battery back and sell the modules. Heavier car affects performance…
I thought there was a company somewhere in the uK who was doing a kit to achieve what you want to do...? All plug'n'play...
Maybe you can sell the good cells one by one and regain what you paid for the pack?
288 cells, that would be 24€/cell without any other costs (postage etc.)
My sympathies.
It's not a total loss, the batteypack still have value. If you are patient, you will be able to find cells. Did I see some Exel poles, btw?
Wow. That's a bummer. Is there anyway to test the battery cells before installation?
Best expert in Nordic is a company in Norway Elbilmek. They can battery and all that thing.
Super Video. Did you Check for torsion?
Why don't you cycle battery few times on level 1 and balance the cells or won't balance
