Jeffrey East traveled with Home Free as their opening act when they were touring in Europe (but forced to cancel the rest of their concerts and return to the US at the start of Covid). JE has collab'd with the guys on a number of songs. Austin performed gospel with his father when young. A touch of its influence is seen here.
Jefferey is also a song writer - he wrote "People" that was on Land of the Free. He also wrote "Understand" from their newest album. He is part of Sweet & Low - the group that Tim and Austin have created, and has a number of his own songs released. So many gorgeous voices in harmony is a real treat. The Oak Ridge Boys sort of look on Home Free as their successors, and it is great to watch such an eminent group support and applaud HF.
Lisa, this is an old hymn written in the early 1900's by Robert Fisher Boyce near Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He was a dairy farmer & wrote it in his dairy barn sitting on a milking stool to have some peace & quiet from his 11 children so he could write it.😊
Richard Sterban , the Oak Ridge Boys bass singer , used to sing with Elvis ... you're right , nothing like two bass singers ! Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones !
Apparently, Austin didn't practice it the way he sang it on stage, so the Oak Ridge Boys were surprised by the way he went "full gospel" on that verse.
Thank you Lisa for all the beautiful songs you reacted to this Christmas season. Enjoyed your reactions and the songs you covered. It is not an original, I believe I read that it is an old southern gospel song, I had never heard it until Home Free did a Christmas special during Covid. So they raised money and invited the Oaks, Alabama, Jeffery East and Rachel Wommack to co-star with them. There was a minimal audience, just a few patreons that contributed a sizeable amount to the Christmas Special. Will miss you while you're gone, have a Wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!
This is actually from their Christmas Special from two years ago. Jeffery East is amazing and has his own RUclips channel. He has given Home Free a few songs. The Oak Ridge Boys sang this song back in 2011. The Oak Ridge Boys are like mentors to Home Free since Elvira. Tim always wanted to be Richard Sterban from the Oak Ridge Boys growning up. Now he gets to sing with him. Truly enjoyed watching your reaction to this song. Happy Christmas to you Lisa.
Jeffrey was the opening act for home free for a while. He also did a song with Home Free call people… And he helped write Home Free song understand even though he gave him the credit.! Nice reaction
You’re right, Jeffrey was the guitarist. He’s written songs for Home Free (Why Not) and he’s joined Tim and Austin in their group Sweet & Low. And it’s so good to see HF with the Oak Ridge Boys again. They really like and respect each other. Good reaction Lisa. This was during Covid so they didn’t have an audience which was sad. Have a wonderful Christmas!
Great reaction. The Oak Ridge Boys are just great! Be sure you listen to Home Free’s cover of Auld Lang Syne We here in the USA sing this on New Year’s Eve. Beautiful cover of this song. Gorgeous harmonies!!
I think Home Free is the next generation of Oak Ridge Boys.
When Austin was a kid he sometimes traveled and sang with his father's gospel quartet in Georgia - he just went 'full gospel'.
They are so beautiful together

Jeffrey and Tim and 1 other( I can't remember who) all had a hand in writing "Understand"

This was such a beautiful and powerful performance. I’m a big Jeffrey East fan. He has a great voice and is a songwriter for major artists.
