We Mounted An Entire Car On Our Chassis Table With Scrap Steel!!!!

  • Years ago I built a frame table on the Eastwood RUclips channel to help with the fabrication of the custom frame that is under the Pagoda City Coupe. We have used the frame table for a number of builds but we need to do some small modifications so we can use it for the Sweet Heart Roadster. Doing patch panels on the SHR while its been sitting on the shop floor is difficult, and the next big step is setting the castor for the front axle. With the SHR now on top of the table it gives us the ability to easily move and adjust the front end without having to be lying on the ground. Also when doing the patch panels the car is at a much more comfortable height. So stay tuned because we will be back to work on the Sweet Heart Roadster!!!

Get some rubber (not plastic) garden hose and cut a long slit in it then rubber cement glue it along all 3 sides of the flanges then use flat head self tapping torx screws top and underneath in pre drilled pilot holes to attach them permanently.
We did that in the Coast Guard to some Air Force hand me down aircraft work stands that had extensions similar to what you made.
Airstation Traverse City got them when Kenslow AF base was closed in Michigan.
They had added them and must have had a regular rotation of personnel rotating thru medical with knee and shin injuries.

  • @andrewkiwi1
    @andrewkiwi1 4 года назад +1

For those wheel pads, you could weld the brackets to the pads and bolt them to the frame with 2 1/2 inch bolts . That way you can change the length for different wheel bases or weld the front pair on and bolt the back pair on. Have you considered a scissor lift like body shops use for panel and reassembly work. They have heavy duty steel castors or wheels and you can roll them around the floor. They sit about 5 inches high on the floor when lowered so you can park a car on top of them when its not in use so they don't take up valuable floor space. I'm guessing Eastwood even make them as well and if they don't they should. LOL They are good for the panel work you can get up close to the panels with out arms or ramps getting in the way. Here's a sample to look st Go to Jinan machinery Co., ltd store. It might be a good idea to buy a couple of pool noodles or roll bar padding. You split it lenghtways and attach them to the Steel plates with a couple of cable ties. Why. To save the neighbors having to listen to you scream when you crack your shins on them.

    Hey Matt,
I know you got into a hurry and wanted to put those pads on "NOW" and like most of us you jumped the gun and went fur it !
Maybe now while they are in place you can mark the slotted hole so you can drill or burn it out to be bolted back on later.
Maybe at least burn those SHARK teeth corner off.
Or stock up on Bandages !
    Otherwise, Great job.
I like having the car up like that so you do not have to be bending over or laying on the floor or a creepper to work under or on the lower sides.
As I am currantly building a new shop I will be installing a two post as well as a drive on lift.
They both make life so much easier in the car world.
    Thanx fur the videos !
    Be safe and well

Car looks great. Some one else suggested you call this table the ‘knee-capper’. I rarely ever make ‘safety sally’ comments, but someone is going to get hurt by the pointy corners. Maybe you’ve already done something to soften those support plate corners? If not, my suggestion is something as simple as welding short lengths of EMT conduit in the top plane of the plates and table, angled at 45 degrees. These would work as ‘ramps’ to keep the knee cap from being stabbed as you approach the table from the front, back or sides. Hope that makes sense 😄. Love what you guys do, and just want to make sure you can keep doing what you love.

I wonder how long it is before some one walks right into one of those plates with their knee? Oooh! I can feel the pain now.

Can you say trailer hitch knee, you might want to shorten those up, or at least put some padding around them, maybe take plasma cutter, and knock off the corners. maybe some caution tape, (black and yellow ) so you see them. It would be bad to hyper extend a knee, I know, been there done that.
