In this video, Jono teaches you a very important figure skating skill! How to push to forwards from a backward outside edge! This skill is particularly important as it is your step into jumps, spins, and more! It may seem easy to some, but it is actually very challenging to do correctly!

I love the feeling of gliding on the back outside edge just before you step out. ⛸⛸

Often overlooked as a easy thing but it’s really not for new skaters it’s an essential skill for transitions!

Well said! An important basic move to learn correctly!

I'm glad you posted this video! 😭 💕 Lately, I've been obsessed with having clean footwork, wanting to have clean transitions, especially for my backwards crossovers to waltz jumps (only jump I can do decently so far). I will definitely practice this for this coming weekend's practice session. Thanks Coach Jono! 😆

You're welcome! This is often something that is overlooked as people want to get straight into learning the jumo/spin, but it's very important to be able to nail the step to forwards properly. If you can't step to forwards properly, you'll start you next element off balance, and it'll be a lot harder to perform!
Let us know how your practice goes and if the video helped you out!

Walls! That's a very clever image! Thanks for sharing it. And for talking about control. It's sometimes quite something to try get the kids and teens from hurrying through the entry stages of their waltz jumps 😂. It looks so much more elegant the way you show it. It also reminds me that I can and should relax some more. Let myself sink into the ice more and allow myself time to feel the connection before moving to the next step, the next edge.

What is the difference between this move and outside backward mohawk?

hi, so i have this habit (idk if its bad or is it even a habit) but when im going backwards, doing the croosovers instead from going back onto the forward edge by doing what you showed in the video, i tend to kinda have one leg more forward and the other a little back while still going back, usually placed on almost the same line, and just do the back 2-foot turn (i cant describe it exactly what it is but it looks like it except you move your one foot a little further to the front and turn from back of your blades). i dont even know how i learned it or is it actually a move but i think its just a weird habit. Also i tend to speed up while going back and whenever i want to go forward i feel like im going too fast and im kinda lost so i do the thing i described above :// sorry if its unclear, im just curious if maybe you know what i mean so thtat i could at least know on what should i work on

I might be mistaken as I haven't seen it for myself, but from what you're describing it sounds like you like to do a backward two foot 3 turn to get to forwards.
Have you watched out backward two foot 3 turn video? Does this resemble the move you're doing?
It's worth learning many different ways to get to forwards from backwards, as they can be all used in different situations.
We'll be posting an alternative step from backwards to forward in the future too, so stay tuned as this would be beneficial to you!

@@IceCoachOnline yes, it's basically a 2-foot turn from backward to forward, but when im going rather fast backwards, it feels really dangerous kinda and forced, making me lose balance sometimes. Thank you, I'll stay tuned for the future videos, and meanwhile I'll try to work on going more smoothly from backward to forward

Seems simple but I am too stupid to do it. Not my level yet. But looks great!

Very important to practice. For example, if you skip over this to go straight to a 3 jump, your 3 jump is now harder as you have to compensate for a poor push to forwards beforehand.
