- I Used Optimal Binds in Fortnite For 1 MONTH
Many tips and tricks Fortnite RUclipsrs have covered optimal binds for controller, claw and keyboard and mouse, for both PC and console. Since I never have, I decided to see how much I'd improve using them. Made me feel like an absolute beginner. Martoz and AussieAntics have odd binds that use a thumbstick to move.

I put the binds at the end of the video, however I DON'T recommend you copy them. There's a tonne of optimising I still need to do for non build / edit buttons.
In January I turned my sense up to maximum for controller (steam deck) and now m&k sense is higher it may be time to switch from joystick to joystick mouse
My arm hurt something wild when I turned up the gas and I have likely an injury but "superluminal box up" is definitely something worth struggling for
When you have the best optimal binds can you say it in a video because I have really bad optimal binds I would love it
Yooooooooo Reisshub!!!, I've been using this from season 6 an I've always been wondering that are ppl really that ____ not to thnik out of the box, finally someone does! Job Well Done!
using right click select edit will cause issue of stuck in aim down sight once confirm edit and swap to gun
4:12 This excat bug happens if you have your aim in and shoot buttons are swapped. I have been dealing with this bug for 4 years lmao
😆
Yo wassup

For the people interested in switching binds, I can really recommend using side mouse buttons for builds, one build with pinky and then one with thumb (floor in my case) and then also edit with thumb. No thumb overload and full movement while building and editing. You can even have pickaxe and all weapons distributed on pinky/thumb/mouse (mouse being pickaxe on scroll wheel click in my case) so you really get optimal binds for the most important stuff without overloading.
For some reason one of my side mouse buttons work any other binds I could use
@@mcxd2276 Are you in a position where you can buy a new mouse? Honestly just go for that, side mouse buttons are too nice for Fortnite. If push came to shove you could try mouse wheel press, if memory serves right Vadeal does that for a build, not sure though and I feel for a build bind it's rather awkward.
@@ZIMAFICATION yea I could get a mouse but like one of my mouse buttons work so for like when im holding the build button for the working side button it build and for the other it dont 🙏
@@mcxd2276 Yeah just get a new mouse (or refund the old one if possible still). Really can recommend the g pro x superlight wireless, bit expensive though, otherwise hyper x pulsefire haste was nice too (also available wireless)
@@ZIMAFICATION yea
The wasq is genius, i didnt even think about changing that. I however just put edit on right click and aim on Alt (you dont need to jump and aim at the same time). Using one hand for editing is also easier for coordination. This is another way to optimize your binds if you dont want to change wasd
You still can't move in one direction when switching weapon slots/pickaxe, but it was extremely easy to get used to for me. After ~3 days (maybe 4 h each) I was already better than on my previous binds.
@@rickplayz2193 how many points u on
@@IbrahimAli-bd4fc I don't play anymore. I was usually around top 5k in the EU tourneys and champions divion obviously.
@@rickplayz2193 You can literally just bind edit to ALT and the problem with editing dissapears lol.
OR u can use a mous button to edit
My PC has been in the shop for months now and I'm getting it back next week. I think returning to Fortnite with at least the Q bind to right will improve my movement tremendously. Thank you Reiss!
I have been using WASQ for 2-3 years now. It is really amazing to have the index finger free. I think I found this movement from an overwatch video at that time. However, the drawback effect is that I am not able to play WASD anymore, so I have to change the movement in all other video games now.
I'm using both.
same i used to play with my ring finger on w
How did you learn the wasq movement, I’m really struggling atm to learn movement
@@BioBozo just play with it alot, move around alot in genreal
As someone who switched to optimal binds about three weeks ago (much like his, but almost exactly as Sly Jack’s video recommends) I can say it was *totally* worth it and the best thing I’ve ever done for my game. *Always* being able to hit *every* movement bind (including crouch and jump and mostly sprint) feels amazing, and allows me to fight in a much faster, more agile way.
I would seriously recommend it to anyone who feels limited by their binds or just wants to break their current skill ceiling. Keep in mind, I had been using the same binds (really rather optimal already) for like 5 years before I switched.
and by the way, I think Sly Jack’s ch 4 keybind video is spot on - I have *zero* complaints with the binds, and these may be virtually the only binds someone can say that with.
I switched to these too, tho I have one complaint. The problem with putting left and right strafe on one finger is that it's much harder to right-hand peek in my experience. Iv'e only been playing with these binds for about a week tho but do you also have this issue?
@@crobbe9190keep going bro its just ur muscle memory and youll get used to it in the near future
@@crobbe9190im in the same stage as u rn. Just practice in creative on a bot and practice right hand edits constantly. Ull get the rhythm
Bro what is that dirty apex pro 😂
actually really disgusting
@@Shyzufn he could’ve at least tried cleaning that fuzzy ass thing before the vid lol
And the mouse
I physically recoiled and instantly tried to find a comment like this. WTF
😅
Always releasing bangers
Having your hand rest on the right side of the keyboard also essentially gives you more desk space for the mouse since more of the kayboard is on the 'outside' of your setup.
Awesome video, my friend! Good luck on your journey and I’m looking forward to the next video.
keep goin' reiss!❤
this is the video i needed
Bro finally u doing a vid about Overall better keybind/settings❤❤❤
I took inspiration from this video and found it interesting so went ahead and basically made my movement keys WASQ and 1 year later only just made the choice to used d for edit as well as moving a build piece for my thumb to use so index isnt using edit as well as floor and wow is it easier. You are the goat
I use WASD, F for ramp, V for wall, X for floor, Q for cone. I use mousebutton 5 to edit, mouse button 4 to tack sprint
W vid helps me keep up with the meta
this is a good insight on what to use and what not to use
Thank you man now I have have perfected my binds
i personally still prefer wasd as it helps me keep muscle memory throughout games like csgo where to counterstrafe you need to be able to press a and d separately, also because im too lazy and comfortable with my binds
Try switching around the right n left click. I haven't had a problem with that. Been using it since chapter 2 s 2. Def worth it!
Actually Sly Jack moved his had to righter so the left finger can press more buttons. Been using those binds for a while, very practical
Did you improve?
that video is crazy ! approved
what i have for my builds is Q floor G cone and side mouse for ramp and wall, however where my movement comes into play is that i use my ring finger on W and there for when i want to slide left i have to put my ring finger all the way down diagonally onto my W and A at the same time. very awkward but ive learned how to deal with it and make the best of it
that putting the select building edit on rightclick optimisation was MASSIVE for me. i switched to it and within a minute i was already edit coursing faster
Here’s something I use for editing and placing building.
I place builds with right click, instead of the usual left click.
I edit tiles with left click.
So the whole time, I’m using holding down my right click to build.
Thing is is that i use was and left shift(for moving to the right) and i would think that that is significantly easier to use than wasq as you still have the same advantages, but again people are different so what ever works for u then use that
ive been playing on the same basically default binds for years now but now i actually want to try to get good so ill try out some of the things you mentioned
If you have a strong little finger, you can also just edit Caps Lock, where the little finger sits naturally
I use QERcapslock for all builds, shift for sprint and edit button on side of mouse, X for pickup.
Drastic change in my speed. Find what works for you and tweak it over time if you need, is what i found.
The most important thing to remember is that optimality is subjective. What's the optimal control scheme for one player may be awful for another player
Keep on the grind man love the content! I will definitely be trying out some of these binds
the thing that most dont put into account in terms of setting their binds is what comes natural and unnatural for you to do during building / editing and different retakes and popular widely used build moves... and hence how likely you are to use them during a fight / just playing in general... you want everything to be as comfortable to be done and satisfying and fast... not necessarely having as few actions per finger...
I find my binds pretty optimal, I use WASD to move, caps lock for cone, c for floor, and then my mouse buttons for ramp and wall. I only have a movement restriction on the floor, which is the least used build
i got the same binds i just copied them from polarized
@@sasa.4317pxlarized uses shift as floor and v for cone
So the 12 day is the best day to feel yourself. Got it 😮
I use an Azeron Cyborg and absolutely love it. I still suck at fortnite but ever since being on pc and the azeron I decided for the same reasons you explained to make select tiles right mouse click and also reload. I also didn’t like having ADS on my mouse. Just wasn’t a fan of it. I have ads as an azeron button and I don’t have the issue of being stuck in ADS after editing 😃. My binds are fantastic, the only problem is that I’m still dookie at fortnite🙃
3:20 i changed my 'place build' bind to right-mouse click. It took like 3 days to get fully used to it. but I can say that it definitely improved my editing speed (i use edit on release on), cuz u dont need to place, start edit and select tile al with left click.
do u think it made you more consistent or about the same?
@@jamosefica yea i think so
@@vunshywhen i first switched to kbm some comment told me this and a tried it and it’s the only thing i’ve ever known . nobody seems to do this or even know about this but i feel like it’s a cheat and really helpful
wouldnt be better to do the oppositr, placing with left and editing with right
CLEAN THAT KEYBOARD OML
I love your videos
Disgusting keyboard good vid xD
Finally someone who understands my weard binds
clean your stuff
I used right mouse button to Edit on release and it was super good for my Mecs, and used a foot pedal to ads and switch material, however i felt that my aim was affected because you lose grip stability and other things, so i went back. Anyways foot pedals can help with some keybinds, like sprinting. I can sprint and cancel very easily for example. You can Also use for inventory slots like healings or someothers where the delay doesnt matter
Wouldn't place build on right click give a better grip since you won't have to release nearly as often?
@@Xyphon-kl2yt is not build. Is edit. Hás reiss explain on video
What does ads stand for?
@@crazygamer3112 Aim down sights
The first clip gave me flashbacks to the 2020/2021 Reiss vids 🥲
I edit with shift using my pinky, I use side buttons for ramp and wall and used to have Q for cone and E for floor. Back then my middle mouse click wasn't working but when i got a new mouse I switched cone to V (my old use/pickup bind) to mouse click. I use scroll down for pickaxe and scroll up for reset. I sprint with caps lock so i find it really smooth to sprint while building because i just move my pinky slightly to edit.
I personally use edit on release on but that's just cuz I'm used to it and don't have the time to get REused to something different (i get about 2 hours daily MAX, normally like 30mins perday)
id like to say that right mouse tile select never used to give that aim glitch up until somewhat recently in which after so long i switched back to left click
thanks for the ideas! i use shoot as my F key so by using WASQ I can now make my shoot D and also be able to strafe right then shoot much faster! thanks so much!
why dont you shoot on mouse? lol
CLEAN THAAT DAMN KEYBOARD
I think theres some keyboard on ur dust
Reiss. You a goat bro. Fkin awesome videos every week. Best in FN scene BY FAR. And Reiss explains will have 1m subs by the end of the year. Content is so well produced.
CLEAN YO KEYBOARD
I use my 2 side mouse buttons for my shotgun and my edit bind. And use my scroll wheel as scroll through my inventory
Thanks for not only showing the good clips and give people false hope man!❤
Did this about 6 months ago and did find it was worth it in the long run I just swap between a different keyboard setting that i rebound and its been decent
I have used a lot. including joystick and such. (before it was even possible. (I bound double movement bind keys to the joystick)). but my problem was that I couldn't counter strafe with a joystick. but that was probably my fault as I thought I also had to use the joystick in games like csgo when I could have probably be able to use both jostick in fn and wasd in csgo at the same time.
I currently have bound place building to my wrist rest (not joking)
Also, the true optimal solution is to use B as right movement. It frees up E,R,T,D,F, and C to be used as you please.
since chapter 2 season 3 I've used uhjk as move binds and to see someone else also use that side of the keyboard surprises me because I get called weird for using uhjk even though it's sorta similar to using esdf for move binds
ive been doing it for around a year now and its really good
i know everyone hates the martoz joystick but i switched 3 months ago and I like to think im pretty good (my channel has some of my stuff even tho promo lol) if you have the time its actually a really incredible switch and works really well and took me ~2 weeks to get to where i was before and now im 300% better now however as a slyjack viewer his binds do make since and could be worth the switch as well but if you have the time definitely switch to the joystick its so worth it
I tried the right click for selecting edits in chapter two but was so put off by ads bug but if they somehow fix it I would 100 percent go back
i have been using the same binds since chapter 2 season 1 and gotten very used to it (its basically same as the content creator loeya's binds) and I have never thought of the issue of not being able to edit while going to the right or having issues placing a cone, should I shift to "optimal binds" or stick with the ones I have rn?
How long have you been on keyboard and mouse and how long did it take to become somewhat ok at it like u would have been in controller coz I’m doing the switch and want to know what it’s like also what are your current binds
so just for the first major thing, on pc at least, you can bind 2 keys to one function like editing. i found (if you dont wanna switch of wasd) you can bind it to your normal key and the bind the second one to something like v or b next to space, common for jumping too making it easy for jumping edits as well.
My keybinds aren’t really the best but what I did to fix the problem of not being to move right because of f being the edit button is changing the edit button to left shift. It kinda works but it makes other problems along the way
The Aussie roast💀💀
4:09 , I switch to right click for select edit years ago but then only played for a month before taking a break for a couple years. I have only noticed recently the ads problem it gives and its so annoying.
use shift for edit and q-e for ramp wall and mouse 4-5 for floor cone and shotgun on G since ui can use ur thumb and pickaxe on scroll up or down
goodd video
Damn i just want to switch my movement keys to be on wasq and I know it will be a massive pain, but you switched every bind, and all at once
today is the first day i changed my binds, it didn't change much because i still have stairs, walls and roof on a bind that rests the same way my previous ones did, but i'm having a lot of trouble on adjusting to the new movement binds, anyone have any maps or just tips to get used to the movement binds quicker?
For me, setting edit bind to left alt is a happy medium for not using wasq
Man you gotta do aussie like that 😂😂😂
that keyboard oh my god
Do you recommend switching to these if you are about to switch from controller to keyboard and mouse?
I, unlike u, did switch to the gmk joystick, its been 2 weeks and mechs are great but its the map, inv, croutch etc that im not used to yet. i feel u
Low key I recommend playing a game without so many binds after/before fortnite. I play osu! and I enjoy just playing something knowing I don't have to optimize anything (you still can but I choose not to). It's like a cold glass of water in summer
You on handicap keybinds > me on psychopath keybinds 😭
I do the same things with the builds but inverted 😉
I use E for edit and C,X,Z,V for builds and i press all of them with my index. Should i swap keybinds?
i have now spend about a year switching to kbm from controller but i just do not have the discipline to commit fully to it. sure i do not have the worst mechanics but it is still all very shaky. When season og dropped i tried switching completely but it didnt work out as ranking up was easier and i was in higher ranks quick and after then i never really tried completely switching. now i play box fights on kbm bcs i think that is the best place to make the switch and find suitable keybinds and getting used to them but battle royale is still on controller.
as a player with wierd keybinds, i recommend you playing with zqsd if youre on qwerty or wasd if youre on azerty
No way you just did the math on all of that (fr it was really usefull
Dunno if u will read this but for ur inventory on kbm just hold left alt and it will bring up ur inventory for as long as you press the button and disappear after u release it
i have movement keys on esdf, i thought by myself that that was genius, but later seen a vibin jivan using same, anyways, to build ramp and floor y just use my pinky, due that u cant sprint while building, and i use g for wall and r for edit, i cant walk right with that binds, but due to the fact that there are the closest to movement, makes no sense to change them, cuz is the fastest way to build a wall to protect, also with edit on release, u can just edit fast and then move with f. If u have diagonal movement, your ch wouldn't change direction if u stop pressing right for a second, so for me is the best binds. I also have the build button on mouse 5, with that u get 0 delay between building and editing
god damn that keyboard
What settings do you use? when i use performance mode my game stutters like crazy
is edit on release and auto reset after clicking any good, or should i change them back
I have pretty weird binds (according to my friends), they are wasd for movement, q for wall, e for ramp, r for floor, caps for cone, Tab for pickaxe ( my reload button is z). Should I change it? I'm pretty comfortable with these binds.
I wanted to keep floor as left alt because my thumb can reach from spacebar to there.
Please help me or give me some tips
an alternative to the hold left click for faster builds is to just use it on right click. There’s no change in settings and if u don’t wanna use it then it won’t matter and it’s always there when u need
swapping to right click place build, is so much faster. i can hold it while editing and just focus on editing with my left click.
@@okctrl exactly
clean that keyboard bro
if any of u find it useful, me in my case since i started playing on keyboard, i have had set the edit bind on left shift and on lock caps the map and the pickaxe on v so i never have to move my fingers except for taking out they pickaxe
Neat I never knew that kind of joystick existed I hate wasd movement and have actually used a controller in left hand for movement and w mouse in my right in alot of games. It does not work for shooters obviously cause you have to move a hand to use any buttons not on the mouse.
yuse e as cone and middle mouse button as pick up, trust me worth the change ( mark as T)
Noti
I use v to edit, which is pressed by my index, along with c for a floor, and x for a cone. I been using this for a while and I still cant get a double or triple edit down.
My “optimal” binds to inspire ideas:
movement - TFGY
jump - rAlt elevated with adhesive foam (wrist)
edit - k (thumb)
ramp wall - side mouse
floor - x (pinky)
cone - right click
ads/switch mat - j (thumb)
reload - l (thumb)
sprint - m (thumb)
shotgun - scroll wheel up
other slots - 67UH (index)
axe - r (ring)
Feedback to further optimize is appreciated
change to TFGR because R is being used by axe, which is a waste, wasq>optimal axe bind, and can put less stress on the thumb 1 as resting bottom of thumb on r-alt makes hitting all binds difficult as thumb is curled (im 6'3 with massive hands so idk if it changes for you, but its how it works for me
because of above, thumb can now easily hit i, u, j, k, but this overlaps with the index finger so we slide all movement down one, TGFR-> RFDE
change pinky location from x->z because of the TGFR-RFDE change, but now pinky cannot move downwards because of the windows key being unbindable, now we move the pinky from z->s. now the pinky can move down, and to the sides
make reset to scroll down- finger retracts quicker than it expands
state keyboard tilt, for optimal and comfortabily i use it at a 90 degree
change jump from r-alt to s, and crouch from whatever it was to z. bc one cannot crouch and jump at the same time
because of the above change, r-alt is unbound, switch it to floor as that was what x was
change axe to mouse wheel down as it doesnt restrict movement and is still optimal
change other weapon slots to TY67 for index finger
thats all, so now your fingers sit on
pinky- S
ring- D
middle- R
index- hovers around TY67
thumb- knuckle on r-alt and tip on I
Most optimal binds are pl;' Right side of the keyboard is the most optimal. Jump with right control and edit with whatever the key to the left of it. This lets you move and edit using your thumb. Tho you do have to with a legel keyremapper to change those keys to up and down arrows. Its basically a modified bootyclap kc binds. M for floors. Wall and ramps on mouse. I have a 5 side button mouse so i have interact and cone on my thump. Weapon slots around my movement keys. I've always wanted to make a video about playing on the right side of the keyboard but my pc is dog water rn so i cant play lol
Can you make a vid about xbox optimals?
I wanna switch to keyboard & mouse will this be a good if i will start from it cause i tried to play with kb&mouse and i barely walked and i couldn't build even ramp and always built a floor or wall or pyramid 🧐 and switchin binds only lasted for one day and i again screwed up everything (not like in that day everything went well) soo what you gonna say? Is it a good start? Cause i see that the right and left walking while editing is important and all of that.
I tried slyjacks keybinds they ok it was tough getting used to all the binds but im very terrible learning the build binds but that's because of the keyboard i can't get used to it i play on a tartarus so my movement is basically is with a directional pad and my builds binds are usually wasd but i want to try some keybinds and get used to playing on a regular keyboard and i tried rtfg because it give you so many new buttons you can hit however it was too difficult too get used to so i went back to my old binds
