Mafex has perfected the Jim Lee artwork-into-action figure sculpt and aint nothing wrong with that. Cant think of a better artist who's artwork translates perfectly as far as superhero action figures aside from super cartoony stuff like Bruce Timm's art.
Mafex has perfected direct plastic representations of very particular comic book artists. That face is so particular to Jim Lee’s art from X-Men #1 it’s crazy.
Trouble with proper sheathes is that in this scale they always look too big, the fake sheathes will always look better
Not perfect, but best action figure of Psylocke I've ever seen and it's not even close. I personally think thigh swivels really make a female action figure look janky so I'm glad MAFEX skipped that. Since MAFEX is quite expensive I'm probably skipping Psylocke but I'm definitely looking forward to Storm.

That sword handle part-swap allows them to keep the size of the sheathe down and make them look more sleek and comics-style (no one actually ever draws them big enough to hold the blades they do). It also means that the paint isn’t going to chip off over time. Shoving plastic inside plastic repeatedly will only wear down each part. I may be in the minority, but I actually prefer swords and sheathes done the way MAFEX did it here
I’m in agreement. Revoltech does this too and I don’t mind it at all. Much preferred!

Few things: Would have wanted sash w/articulation so I could have it wind swept without sheathes. Wish they would have given us those hands with the peg WITHOUT the peg.. as they are great for style pose hands (similar to her default stance in 2d fighters). The ankle rockers are good but the ankle forward and back is horrible because of the sculpt, this makes getting her toes into a pointed stance nearly impossible.
Other than those minor gripes I really like this figure and I eagerly await more x-men from Mafex.
Pity, they could of hid the thigh swivel right under that top leg band. Still looks nice though.

I just ordered this figure from BBTS, and I'm looking forward to getting it. I will admit though I would've preferred if they gave her burgundy lips like how she appeared on the cover of X-Men #31. It's still accurate looking though since Psylocke was drawn with purple lips at times.
I was a bit hesitant at first because of her skin and headsculpts in the promos, but this figure is gorgeous and I can't wait to get mine!
Just found me one at a still somewhat fair price. Had to really do some serious hunting to find her at a reasonable cost. I really like this version. Mafex is nailing the 90's Jim Lee/ Claremont X-Men. This will always be the greatest era of our beloved mutants. My minor interesting gripe is... why doesn't she have the larger blue strap across the upper right thigh like she has on the photo in the upper left corner of the box and in the comics? Anyways, minor gripe of mine. Still a great rendition of ol' Betsy. Great review, man! 👍

I don’t understand why Mafex has never heard of thigh swivel. It’s my one major gripe. They would have by far the best articulated figures if they started using it.
They have an internal swivel tho thigh swivels would be dumb
@@Dreyz-pg2zznah the internal swivel’s barely give any meaningful range and they have multiple figures where the swivel would be hidden by the sculpt for example psylockes leg straps, cyclops’ leg straps, storms top of storms boots, etc

I’m still hyped for the Mafex Azrael Batman. Hope he still comes out by the end of the year, I got a feeling he’s gonna be a sleeper hit.
How come psylockes suit is a darker blue in the pictures at the end, when during the comparison it was light blue, lighter than wolverines, but in the pictures it's more of a royal blue, and her hair looks more vibrant, is it a filter, because the fig looks perfect
Just wanted to use this opportunity to share my tragic story. My Mafex gambit was in my BBTS pile of loot. I got an email saying due to a computer glitch I no longer had the figure. The figure ins not $200+ on the after market. They refunded the money and gave a $50 store credit. But even still. I am a broken man.

I absolutely adore mafex and their marvel comic figures they are always so fantastic and beautiful. Unfortunately I can just never seem to justify nor afford them 😅 the only one I have is McFarlane Spider-Man cause how could I pass that one up
Great review as always bud. I was very tempted to pick her up but even though she looks a whole lot nicer than the current Legend she's maybe just the tiniest squeak too small for my liking. (Or at least the head is!)
Mafex makes some killer stuff just wish they would change the hand pegs, you have a 50/50 chance of breaking them off when changing them!
Yep putting them in some warm water usually helps tho lessens the chance

Psylock is a rough one for me because I've got such a specific idea of here thanks to MvC and MSP that I don't thinkll I'll ever find the perfect one. ML, Revo, and Mafex all have their pros and cons.

Non of the mafex have thigh swivel so wasn’t expecting it. I do wish their head scales were a bit more consistent. Hush Superman head is tiny compare to all other mafex I have. And hers is looking a bit small too. She looks fine alone. Amazing shots you took at the end. I want archangel storm iceman colossus and nighcrawler from them.
Most do have thigh swivel. Very rare you get one that doesn’t or doesn’t move as much. But most do have swivel.

@@vicdamon3551 oh yea that’s the confusion. MAFEX has thigh swivel but it’s built into the hip joint which is an important thing cuz domestic figures never do that. She didn’t need a thigh cuz even though it would have made sense to put it where D said cuz aesthetically it would have been hidden perfectly. The real problem is that she’s lacking a functional though swivel do to the fact that it barely moves at the hip. That’s why D wanted the thigh cut.

The marvel select psylocke is one of my all time favorite figures even though her legs are too long. This one looks great but the head sculpts aren’t as good.
Jealous you got one of these. I live in Japan and this figure didn't even make it to shop floors. Preorders sold out online before I had the chance to get one. Now resellers are listing them for double price. And your review makes me want one even more. Looks amazing!

As much as I highly admire psylocke, not sure if this head is doing for me, just seems off or not psylocke. The hair looks flat and forehead over exposed? Idk, but so far haven't seen a perfect psylocke in figure form, that mvc2 statue is the definition of perfect 👌 but not 1/12 scale.
She looks good. I wish these things were cheaper. Lol

Mafex never does big figures but with their 2 pack packaging you might be lucky
I guess this psylocke skipped leg day. Just skinny overall not digging the proportions. Its freaking crazy we got a jdm Psylocke toy but just wish it looked closer to the MVC2 sprite.
That mvc2 would be all I need. Dream come true.

I wanna like this more. Two things just really bother me for the money this would cost. The contrast between the paint of the lips, the paint of the hair and the skin tone are just off to me. Probably worse to me is the legs. They seem like plain tubed of plastic. No musculature or really any curves to highlight her as an athletic trained ninja. Her legs make me think gumby and the calves look as thick as the thighs if not thicker at some angles.

Everything about this looks awesome but why do the Japanese always give Psylocke ludicrously oversized Psychic blades? Shouldn't be any longer than her forearm and should be attached to the back of her hand (Hasbro never gets that second part right either.) The other effects parts look good but make zero sense with Psylocke at all, no attachment for her psychic butterfly look...
Even still I wish Mafex could get a proper 1 a month release schedule going and I'd just replace the entirety of my Hasbro 90's X-Men (Uncanny, X-Force, X-Factor, etc...) with Mafex (Minus Wolverine, their version of him sucks.)
Would've preferred replaceable hair ... like swept back for some crouching ninja poses ... and of course better head movement to go along.

I don't like how the sheaths stick out to both sides. Yamaguchi IMO did this better.
This could be better. But the Yamaguchi's face looks like a 8 year old but yet has a more curvaceous body and better leg wraps. The Mafex's skin tone is better whereas the Yamaguchi's looks too pale. Still waiting on on definitive definitive 1/12 Psylocke.
She's a very tall girl this size is not accurate.
As a comic version of the character she is just fine, as a MvC halfway there. How can she be perfect for MvC? She must have a strong female gymnast lower legs so it looks like she can perform acrobatics, even blue leg coverings and her face should be prettier than this being shes a top model. Of all toy makers looks like none can make a MvC version.
Big Jim Lee X-Men fan. Read the comics as a kid. Everything from the neck down looks great. I like how the designers went a different direction with her right leg wrappings. My biggest complaint is her face. The forehead is too large. Her hair should come down to a widow’s peak. The hair from Amazing Yamaguchii is fantastic, but lacks little articulation. The Mafex version is too bland.
Mafex & AY are the only companies tackling the Jim Lee era which is fantastic. I know Marvel Legends has their line out, but this is entirely different. It’s like comparing Ford and Ferrari.
They make their heads so small on the human faces, completely ruins the figure for me and makes it look awkward with marvel legends. Especially at 100$ , real shame

The legends version looks better and I got both variants for 19.99. Your reviews are always great but I cant see wasting the money on this figure.
