Thanks for the video. I enjoyed this. I'm from the US and had no idea they ever made a theme park like this in the UK. Not surprised sales weren't good.
Visited the site last year (2012), was very sad to see everything had been demolished. Had some very happy memories visiting the place with my then girlfriend during the 1990s. What a sad end to what was once such a great theme park.
went for a walk around there today , did so 6 months ago and the change in the last few months is alot , all trees look like they are getting chopped down , did not get in grounds , would love to go in grounds though , should get a few folk together and meat up for a detailed look with an old map
Just found out this place is now closed :( so sad because i visited a few times, last time was 2005 and there was loads of problems with certain rides not working properly due to rainfall. Shame that some of the rides couldnt be save & go to some of the smaller theme parks.
By 2005 the park really was on its last legs. The fact was by then they'd had to close some of the main attractions mainly due to lack of maintenance, the Missile, Nightmare Niagra, and the Runaway Mine Train, three of the main attractions the place had. The place was pretty much just allowed to fester. I mean think about it, after the twin looper appeared, in what, 1995 ish, what big exciting rides appeared at American Adventure? Not many really that I can think of. I went in 2005 and the place was just dead. You could walk onto nearly any ride. A shame really because in the early 90s it was a great little park. Lovely setting.
This place had perhaps the best log flume I've ever been on. Sorry it closed but really when you get to the stage that you have to pay to go in the park and then pay to go on its biggest attractions (jcb diggers and the reverse bungie thing) then it's time to go.
Actually quite sad watching this - I went to the American Adventure Park when I was at high school around 1997/1998 and loved it (was around 13 at the time). Thought recently about taking my kids there acouple of years ago and had no idea it had closed and was/is now derelict. Very sad. thanks for the video though
i went here many ''MANY'' times in the 90's! was a big part of my life and i have alot of undevelop films of this place. does anyone know where all the rides went to? i know you said pleasurewood hills for misile but where did the rest go?
Awwwww, this video is so sad to see. I worked in retail in 1995 full time and on the rides in 1995, before I had to get a nasty booring job driving a truck. I have some of the best memories even while earning £3.00 an hour. I take my kids to wheelgate and twin lakes and butlins at skeg and I have seen a few people who worked on the rides and maintenance. Id love to see the site before its redeveloped. . .so sad :(
came to this by 1st looking at the abandoned by Disney stuff on goggle but then started to think about this place from say 90 to about 94 I worked for my local YMCA providing school holiday care for children and one of out regular days out was American adventure as we where based in the east of england it was a fair bit closer than alton towers and it seemed to be alot better spaced out and the q times for rides where never as bad at all
Went here yesterday to look around and everything is completely flattened, the only thing left is the entrance sign in the lower carpark, none of the buildings in this vid are there anymore :-(
Yeah agree with you there, it was quite sad what happened to it, hope alton towers doesnt go the same way, but if it does what an explore that will be!!!
When I last went to The American Adventure they hade Starwars on the 3D cinema, not sure what year it was though. My first time there it was Aliens the movie on the cinema.
dont know about anyone else but this just makes me feel incredably sad......:( only went there the once in about 92 - 93 .........glad i went when it was at its best.........and not one some stupid person or people decided to make it a kids park and not develope the white knuckle theme which was so good
Paul Taylor There's a break in the fence just past the old entrance that didn't get used, there's a lot less to see now though, its all over grown and all the buildings are rubble. I went last Saturday.
good video but why did u lable them kids who seemed to b hanging out and not causing any troule as chavs? people could possibly lable u for wearing a carling tshirt

That was the best theme park I went to in 1989. Will be sadly missed.
Did you go to other theme parks that year?

Because it was based on America?

Hi Mate, yeah the site is pretty much a nature reserve now with people walking around and fishing, the postcode is DE7 5SX
Plans have been put forward for a retail and office park to be built on the site (June 2011)
Sad, sad sad :(
What a shame, sad to see it now, the missile was my very first roller coaster ride.

Is it a pretty much walk straight in thing now? I remember trying to go a few years back to find that there was in fact a security man and his dog.
about 2 years ago, its pretty much a nature reserve now

Someone i know went and retrieved the surfboard and made on last day out of the American Adventure
ive sat in that rapid car you were talking about at the start of the video :D:D:D:D me n my m8 went in the lake with it lol
You'll be suprised, it did last 20 years, it closed because it shutdown half the park with promise of refurbishment and then sold the rides
Yeah agree with you there, it was quite sad what happened to it, hope alton towers doesnt go the same way, but if it does what an explore that will be!!!
