Thank you for this information. The sliding door has been a problem since I bought my house in April 2022. Some days I can open the door only a few inches to squeeze through. Thankfully, I'm slim. I've had 2 carpenters to check it. Neither knew what is wrong. One took the glass doors out of the frame, then reinstalled them. No change. I can't fix it myself, but, thanks to you, I can tell someone who can fix it.

These doors are brand new & Lowes was clueless as to how to fix it after they did the installation. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
@@leeshuster3798 Thanks for watching. That’s odd… If brand new, they should slide perfectly. Is the upper or lower track offset or bent? Try measuring the upper track and frame outward to wall as well as the lower frame. If they are offset, it will lead to constant tension on door as it slides on track inside frame. Do you have rollers on both top and bottom or just bottom?
Thank you for the quick response. I took a real close look at the door & see there is a pretty large gap between the door & the top track & looking at the bottom track, it is definitely scraping the metal... so WOW you helped me solve a problem the installers were dumbfounded by. I'll just raise the wheels on both sides evenly & hopefully, we'll have a smooth & easy sliding slider :D

Hello. This was very informative but my issue is that the frame of the sliding door is hitting the metal frame of the fixed panel. Any ideas on how to fix that would be much appreciated.
Thanks for watching, any update? This can happen if the lower rollers are offset significantly. Another cause is damaged or warped door…or warped frame that the door rests and operates in. Another cause is if the door was recently removed and reinstalled…it’s possible that the door is not installed properly inside frame where the rollers are properly placed on the slide track.
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders thanks for the reply! The bottom of the door and the track it sits on seem fine. What I noticed is that the sliding panel seems to have a bit of movement on the top & it seems to lean towards the fixed panel. Not sure if that makes sense. I wondered if there’s supposed to be something at the top keeping it at a certain offset from the overall frame. Someone told me this can happen due to the house settling over time and I can see that, but the question is if there’s anything at all to solve the issue, aside from replacing the door.
@@marlen.rumiantseva Thanks for the follow up, this is helpful information. Two things come to mind from here. 1. You may be spot on when you say that the upper portion of frame is possibly missing a piece that helps secure/align sliding door so it doesn’t make contact with stationary door. This will depend on your specific setup/install/and brand of unit. 2. The door is sitting a bit to low and because of this, it’s not fully being assisted and guided by the upper portion of frame that the door sneaks into. Basically the upper portion of door has more room to lean back and forth as it travels. This can be fixed by adjusting the lower rollers out/down, which in return will raise the door higher into the upper framed slot/guide. If the rollers are not adjustable due to their age/condition, they will need to be replaced. Keep us posted. 🧰
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders thanks again! I should have specified that there doesn’t seem to be or ever have been any kind of guide at the top. Another detail is that this door is at a condo that was built in 1971 & to be honest not sure if it’s original but I’d be surprised if it was ever replaced. I realize this is a bit of a unique situation & it’s hard to diagnose or find a solution without assessing the issue in person. I appreciate your suggestions. Thanks
Thanks for this video! My friend told me put wd40 on the wheels from the little hole, would you recommend that? Her door is now sliding like a brand new one. It's so smooth I almost broke it sliding it 😂. Thanks!
Thanks for watching, WD40 will work however won’t be as good as lithium grease. Even lithium grease though is a temporary fix as we mentioned in the video. Thanks for the follow up, this is helpful information.

The best thing to do is lubricate the rollers with lithium grease so it buys you time to purchase new replacement rollers.
You can pick a day that works best for you as get those old worn out rollers replaced. Below is our step-by-step video on replacing rollers.

My sliding door has no adjustment screw at the bottom?
@@Telstar_1
Thanks for watching, any update? Is your adjustment mechanism on side?
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders No, I wonder if it’s covered up behind the PVC frame so not visible. I might try cutting a small amount back at the bottom at some point.
@@Telstar_1
Thanks for the reply. By referencing the sticker on side of frame, you can obtain the model number.
This may help you locate better and more specific to your unit information.

My screwdriver only finds empty space when inserting and it's long enough to reach the front of the wheel.
There’s no way a year ago I oooekd up how to do this and it was super complicated. Somehow now it’s 2 screws

My adjustment is on the sides 😮
so what if the screws a froze up??? I cant turn them!
Good morning ☕️ you can apply some PBlaster to the screws which will break away and loosen up the rust and corrosion that has gathered on screws.

hrm. my door cant be lifted. it wont budge upward.
Thanks for watching, any update? Have you insured that your lower rollers have been properly adjusted to the full-up and stowed position?
Having your rollers adjusted up will give you the most room to shift door out of its trim insert.
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders it was basically a shit show. i adjusted the rollers down, by accident and essentially locked the door in place (open, no less). i literally could not budge it.
ended up having to take it down completely and then clean/adjust the rollers.
It slides, but still is not smooth. But its 30 years old. ill probably just get a new one come spring/summer
@@chrisi621
We appreciate the follow up. Being 30 years old, it’s a real good time to replace the lower rollers.

Is there a way to tell how it's set? I had my shoulder replaced and I think my asshole roommates set it on hard! Unfortunately I only have use of my right arm so is there an easy way to tell how it's set?

Hi there! The sliding glass door you're working on seems remarkably similar to one I have at my place. Could you kindly share the make and model of the door? I've been having a hard time finding any way to identify the manufacturer on mine. Thanks in advance!
