Welcome to Amity Tracks. This is a channel where we discuss a wide range of music related topics. The focus will be on music from the 1960’s through the 1990’s, but not exclusively. Classic rock, progressive rock, psychedelic rock, hard rock, jazz, blues, folk, country, soul…all genres are fair game. From time to time we may dabble in other popular culture, such as film, history or sports. But music is primarily what we do here. The focus is on the music and the artists. We hope to encourage an open and dynamic community with fun and informative discussions not only in the videos, but also in the comments section. Please note that, while disagreement and discussion is welcome, no personal attacks or out of bounds comments will be tolerated. We want to be a part of the positive larger vinyl community and other like-minded, music focused communities.

Me too I'm blown away. It is such an energetic thrilling album! Not one bad song that it want to skip. I have a soft spot for Whole Wide World. Ending the album with Rolling Stone Blues is a very great idea, I just hope it is not their way to say to us "Farewell". They said they recorded 23 songs, so there might be another album coming up soon. At their age, they better not wait another 18 years!

Great review. I too love Undercover btw. What makes Hackney Diamonds so fantastic is just how unpretentious this album is. They weren't trying to suggest that they do anything except make really really great rock and roll music. It's fun, the tunes are catchy and its a joy to listen to - over and over and over again!

I was looking forward to this album from my all time favorite rock band. And I had expected an ok record that didn’t fall through compared to their later releases. Kind of knew that The Stones wouldn’t risk their reputation by releasing a stinker...
But I hadn’t expected this. An album that’s very, very good all the way trough and totally relevant, not just because of the bands myth.
The Beatles showed us that stopping at the peak is a very impressive thing to do. And that has kind of been the ideal ever since.
But The Stones have showed us that keeping on trough the ups & downs of life can be just as impressive. The value of staying power. Why shouldn’t you keep on if it’s still valuable? And if quality drops a bit here and there, so what...? You can still come back as strong as ever.
    We have just seen that...

I"ve got mine on order being sent in the mail. I'm excited!! You and others gave given this album great reviews. Haven't heard a bad review. Just think Mick and Keith are in their 80's and still kicking ass. Oh Ronnie is not far from being 80 himself. And Still Kicking Ass!! Mick has taken exceptional care of himself and always strives to be better vocally and in his presentation. The tracks I've heard Keith's vocals are outstanding. Keith and Ronnie's guitar work remains off the charts.
But Steve taking over for Charlie on the drums, has kept Charlie's legacy alive while bringing in his drumming style into the band and nailing it. He is making for himself a wonderful legacy and us fans to be amazed in him while remembering Charlie for everything he brought on stage every performance and in the recordings.
Rolling Stones fans will never forget Charlie Watts, but I also think we won't forget Steve either. And as for Mick, Keith, and Ronnie they are revered forever as long as there is time. In their 80's and it is just getting better!! Viva the Rolling Stones!!

Really, really like this album. Killer. This came out of nowhere. Super impressed. For me the only let down track shows up all the way on Side B with the Keith Richards vocal; and that one's not that bad! I think Hackney Diamonds is better than Some Girls and Undercover, and equal to Tattoo You. High praise in my book (even though it's coming from little ol' me).

I absolutely agree with your assessment of "Hackney Diamonds". I am in my mid-sixties and absolutely love the Rolling Stones, could not live without them, been a hardcore fan since my early teenage years when "Sticky Fingers" was a current album. I was blown away when I first heard "Hackney Diamonds" in its entirety, so many good tracks. As you said, there isn't a single song on this album that doesn't belong. I'm simply gushing over how great this record is, and how inspired the Stones seem, playing with purpose and relevance. Mick's voice is so good, amazing that he can sound like this at this stage of his life. I'll add, like you, I think Undercover is a great album, always liked it. I recently listened to it again and I never understood why so many were dismissive of this album. I'll look forward to your review of this as you go through the discography. Note that I grew up, like you, on the U.S. versions of the Stones' albums except for "Aftermath" and "Between the Buttons". I purchased imports of these back in the 70's because I really wanted to hear these albums as the Stones intended them to be heard considering that these albums were the first to feature entirely original compositions by Jagger/Richards. Also, there was a noticeable sound quality difference. The British (in fact all European and Japanese vinyl records) had better pressings, better vinyl, which made for better sound off the turntable, like really better. I also agree with you that there are many good songs on latter-day Stones albums starting with "Steel Wheels". I have listened to these albums many times and I've found listening pleasure throughout. I will admit I'm biased, but once you understand that bands, like all humans, evolve, it allows for a fairer analysis of their output. I don't know if you intend on reviewing the reissued albums with bonus tracks that they've released since 2010 ("Exile", "Some Girls", "Sticky Fingers" (no unreleased tracks on this one, "Goats Head Soup", "Tattoo You") All of the bonus tracks on these were worthy of release. Yes, many were reworked with new vocals, but to me, this doesn't matter. These songs are generally all good in my opinion, and certainly worth having in the official Stones catalog where they belong. There are so many more in the vaults and I hope the Stones keep digging to give us more, reworked vocals or not. From "Undercover", I found, among others, from the 2021 bootleg "Fully Finished Studio Outtakes" a 7-minute song called "Can't Find Love". Maybe it didn't get released because it didn't fit the vibe of "Undercover" but it's a beautiful mid-tempo track featuring the weaving guitars of Keith and Ronnie, beautiful piano, and a great Mick vocal with some falsetto. Thanks again for your review of "Hackney Diamonds" I really enjoyed your commentary.

Hello, I can only agree. After the first listen, I really like the record. It's a shame that "Living In A Ghosttown" wasn't included, I think the song is absolutely strong. In general, I really like the Stones' later work, as well as the solo records by Jagger and Richards. My favorite album is “Steel Wheels”; saw them on the Urban Jungle tour back 1990... beautiful memories. Greetings from germany... bye and take care.

This album is OK. I am one of the biggest Stones fans and own everything they released and hundreds of bootlegs. No matter what they do it can’t touch the albums that I bought upon release like Exile On Main St. The new one is better than A Bigger Bang but falls short of pretty much every other studio release for me. Sounds like a Jagger solo album to me. Not bad for 70 and 80 year olds though

  • @danbaron2561

(Consciously, I do not intend this to be mean, but it's funny to me.) Imagine in the future, when the Stones are all on stage in electric wheelchairs. Mick could still dance, by doing all kinds of spins in his chair. Maybe he could do wheelies. 🥲 This next idea, seems to me to be, brilliant! 🥲 They take their old song recordings, and remove Mick's vocal tracks on them. He records new vocals, with new lyrics and a new title for each. Then, they put the songs together, and release new albums. They could keep this going until they are all at least 90. Do you think anyone would suspect what they were/are/would be, doing?!! 😅 😂 🤣
