"Undercover" from '83 is criminally under-rated. Raw, dirty, punky, funky, and irreverent with no sappy Jagger ballads.

Great ranking vid. The Stones were never exiled from UK. They left as a protest against high tax rates. They bought a villa in France but never recorded there. They wrote and rehearsed the Exile album there. But after that they flew to the USA and recorded most the album in NYC and LA (in high-end top recording studios). There was a lot recorded in France. It seems most of it was rejected for release on the album.

    my top 11
    1. Exile on Main Street- the harmonies and the raw rock, country and boogie woogie flavor is what get's me on this on Happy, Loving Cup, Sweet Virginia, Torn and Frayed, Rocks Off, the soul and gospel feel of Shine a Light and there is some genuine intoxicating joy not as dark and dreary. Marvelous Mississippi Mud Music made by Englishmen in France
    2. Sticky Fingers
    3. Let it Bleed replace Country Honk with Honky Tonk Woman and include live version of Midnight Rambler from Hot Rocks

Love the skull ring. It's like Keith's. I love the 'Steel Wheels' album, too. I think everybody has 'Exile On Main Street' and 'Sticky Fingers' as their top 2. In one way or another. You can't go wrong with either one. A lot of the ones that got a ton of criticism have grown on me after listening to them for a while. Side 2 of 'Tattoo You' is incredible. I envy your Stones cd collection. I'm getting there. I have a lot of the most beloved albums but I don't have any after 'Tattoo You' other than 'Steel Wheels'. I agree with your take on 'Dirty Work'. I think there's some good songs on that one, even though it's not very critically acclaimed.

The Stones are my favorite band and this is one job I wouldn't want to tackle, so many great albums and songs! I agree with most of your commentary and personally prefer both UK versions of Aftermath and Between the Buttons. I would place Exile first followed by Sticky. SF was the album that got me into the Stones in the 80s but Exile has so many layers I hear something new every time I listen to it. I enjoyed seeing some love for their mid 60s albums. They're so often overlooked but they're all pretty great!

Beggars was the limit of the Jagger Richards Stones so logically it was no 1 the others especially Sticky and Exile can't really take that number one place - because the( Stoners ) best track Hill Side Blues is not on the Exile album due to Keef's hatred of Taylor who was never a full Stones member ( never got his copyright ) basically a session musician . But back in the day that No 1 spot was always Get Yer Yah Yahs Out as the go to Album.
It's also nonsense to claim the Stoners were the revolution and not the Beatles . Tax avoidance in a French chateau is hardly the revolution certainly wasn't in the 70s . But I preferred the Jones Taylor Faithful Wyman Stones to the J&R Stadium rock ( Exile 1 was an average blues Album ) which Keef said was not well received - ( non Taylor ) and marked their turn away from the blues to American Stadium rock . Their eventual artistic stagnation in the mid 70s post Taylor in the self deleted Video Cock Suckers Blues - too many Rolls Royces and smack made them irrelevant during the Punk explosion UK . Hardly the Revolution .Lennon took a dislike to the Stoners fairly early .So did others . For similar reasons they never play Taylor's Time Waits For No Man - often called ( their ) Stairway .
