Hi all,
This video is a bit of a departure from my normal uploads.
This is just some candid recording done by my wife on Sunday afternoon.
If people like this style of video, we might do more of them in the future whenever my wife is available to spend time in the shop with me.
There is very minimal editing and this is basically my wife following me around the shop while I do a small personal project.
I will be automating my hydraulic shop press with an air powered push button bottle jack.
My Lathe: MSC / Prince 9517350 - 13x40 Manual Metal Lathe
My Milling Machine: Bridgeport Variable Speed Series 1 "J Head"
My other Milling Machine: Brown & Sharpe No. 2 Plain "light type" Universal Milling Machine

I like the new format. Informal, wife behind camera, shop dog getting pats..and unscripted talk. A winning formula.
Thanks very much, we will try to do more like this whenever my wife is available to help. It was a lot of fun to make as well
felt the same!
2 things that make that mod priceless, a knurled knob for the release and a foot switch.
Brilliant
and deff a foot pedal.
Super, Now you could make a small t-handle for the pressure release. You made it look like a fun project, Great!
Thanks very much, it was a lot of fun having my wife in the shop with me!
Ah! Memories of retrofitting a Vevor air hydraulic jack to my Harbor Freight 20 ton press, but with one exception. I left the retraction assembly on my jack so when it retracts, it goes fast! Great work! It was like deja vu all over again!
Thanks, and thank you for watching!
I did the same upgrade on my 20 ton press, night and day compared to the pump jack. I also used some thick self stick felt material that home depot sells for furniture legs to take up the slop that the bar has where it travels up and down along the side uprights.
This style video has much more humanity than TOT style videos, definitely like the variety.
Thanks very much. We will definitely try to make more like this whenever my wife is available to help out
I appreciate the informal format. As we know, sometimes less is more. Shop animals are a proven formula too. The air hydraulic bottle jack seems to be the best of both worlds since it will still work as a manual jack. Manual is useful for seating bearings and delicate stuff. Now if they just had a pressure gauge. . .
Thanks very much, it was a lot of fun to make as well, and getting to hang out with my wife in the shop on a Sunday afternoon is about as good as it gets. And yeah, pressure gauge would be awesome.
Like my dad always tells me, work smarter not harder
Dad's usually know best 😉
Hi, a great tool👌Thanks😉
Thanks very much for watching!
SUNDAY…. SUNDAY….. SUNDAY …… everything great happens on a Sunday 👍👍😎👍👍
Ahhhh, man, I remember those commercials, THE BEST!
Good idea,patient wife,and great dogs!
She is the absolute best, has the patience of a saint with me and my constant shenanigans. I don't know how or why she puts up with me. And yeah they are good boys!
Thx for the vid.
Thanks for watching 🙂
good vid...love the pups...i made a little knurled knob on my lathe for the air release.
Thanks, and I love them too lol. Knurled air release is a great idea
Nice to see those crocks back in the shop. HAHAHA.
Been loving the shorter form videos. Great work!
Haha, yeah I think she's completely given up on real shoes at this point... And thanks bro, appreciate it.
I like that upgrade
Thanks, it's an easy one and definitely worth it
This video has some nice CEE vibes 😁 cool little project!
Yeah, just fun on a nice Sunday afternoon. CEE is much cooler than I'll ever be, but I appreciate the comparison lol. 😅
Did the same to mine a few months back. Got sick of pumping. 😂
It's a game changer for sure
Simulated Motor sound at 2:43 was amazing.
What a wonderful thing to have a wife willing (and interested enough) to take the time to record your work! Nice upgrade - Love it!!!
Haha, thanks 😂
@@russellwall1964 Yeah, she is the absolute best. She's the only reason I even have a RUclips channel, she believes in me even when I don't believe in myself.
Nice!
Thanks!
Nice bench vise!
thanks, it came out of a USN machine shop, one of my prized possessions
@@hersch_tool yea, that is cool. As is your Drill Press (Clausing I think). I had a Bridgeport M-head USN tagged from 1943. I sold it and purchased a newer “J” head that is I’m much better shape. If I only had room 😝. Thanks for your time!
@@cogentdynamics thanks for yours as well!
Gotta admit, I like the increased amount of dogo
Haha, as you should, it's only natural 😉
Sunday Funday for me means I might not go to work Monday. I am an alcoholic. very functional 30-40 yrs practice.
We all have our demons, God knows I struggle with mine every day. Being honest to ourselves about them is often the hardest part of the battle, you've already won that fight, so keep fighting.
What is that center punch called? It’s pretty awesome
its an adjustable transfer punch
Adjustable transfer punch. It's made in Germany, can't remember the name of the company offhand, I'll have to check.
@@hersch_tool Rennsteig probably
@@martinchabot_FR yep that's it
Wait a minute, did you really think that nobody would notice that machine under covers in the driveway? What`s that?
Also, damn you, you motivate me to make my own h.press... I have some nice stock on hand just for such a project, and i lack a press, furthermore, i want to get into some smithing and foundry work, both of which can put a h.press to good use...
Best regards!
Steuss
Lol, why whatever do you mean?... 😎 And you should, and film it so I can copy the design lol
@@hersch_tool Oh well, what do i mean, i mean that i want a press, and i have been deliberating on the design and stock selection and all the other nonsense that goes into a press... Having seen your press and the outside facing C sections - that is a damn nice design... Quite easy to implement, easy to weld solid, relies on material that i have on hand and so on... Tho, i think that my C sections may be but a tad thicker walled... Zoinks, scoob, what do we do now - We sneak in a stronger cylinder, of course...
I`ll keep the design basic, makes no sense over-complicating what in essence is a moving rod in a sturdy frame...
@@camillosteuss I meant what do you mean about the machine in the driveway lol.
@@hersch_tool aaah, well, at one point, you have a few frames outside the shop, apparently in the driveway, and there at least to my eye - appears to be a machine under covers with that famous camo pattern that makes people in public absolutely invisible :P It don`t look like a vehicle, at least to me, tho i could be wrong...
I bought the air bottle jack same time as my press, installed a foot control and handle on the release valve works great.
yeah i think i'll end up putting on a foot control as well. the air jack is a game changer for these bottle jack presses, loving this little mod
Great idea! What a coincidence. I made a press from a jack a couple of days ago. You might be interested in looking at it. Come visit. Liked and subscribed to your channel.
Thanks very much! And I'll check it out!
Hard to take a guy serious with makita power tools #dewaltgang 😂
Lol I like to go against the grain 😂
We purchased one of these and it was pure Vevor aka junk, instead of regular hydraulic oil, it was filled with brake fluid, so had to have our hydraulic guy replace every seal inside and clean all the metal debris out that Vevor's factory 🏭 left inside, we have not had one product from Vevor show up to shop that wasn't majorly defective, would not suggest buying a thing from them!
Yeah the import tools ALWAYS come absolutely covered in black grit that looks like grinding dust or something. I always completely disassemble, clean, fix and reassemble import tools before using them. That's the price us hobbyists pay for "affordable" tools after the gutting of US manufacturing I guess. But break fluid? Sheesh, how does that even happen?
WELD the press. I did and it is much much stiffer
Firrrest, again 😂
lol how do you do it!
The bott. Doesn’t have to be bolted down
