Hi Jeff, great to see you on my local canal again, I think you've visited it more than me in the last 12 months. However, when the weather improves, I will be back cycling on it on a regular basis. I can understand your frustration with the BBC. It must be annoying them always pouncing on you and trying to get you to join the team. To be honest Jeff, with you on board at the BBC the TV licence would probably become a worthy purchase but the reality is, is that they do not deserve a man of your calibre on their payroll, and they couldn't afford you anyway. By the way, I spoke to the Directors and staff at WMT and did advise them that you were due to travel with us earlier this week and extra effort was put in to ensure a reliable service for you 😁 Great video as always Jeff and some nice photos too. Take care Jeff and see you in your next upload and hopefully I'll get to meet you when you pass through later this year 👍
Hi Dave, yes, I've been there a few times now haven't I! Its a great towpath for cycling (no mud 😁) and there's so many off-shoots you can explore - I'm sure you'll enjoy getting on there once this weather starts behaving. er... IF it does... Yes, its so annoying. I always turn my head away from their window as I walk past, but the BBC doorman always recognises me and grabs me. They did their very best this time, but I wasn't going to budge. In the end, in order to be released, I had to agree to a possible Christmas special, with me, Tom Cruise, and Arnold Schwarzenegger doing a round table of what its like being such an adventuring heartthrob. Mind you, I only agreed once they said the other two would get as much as I will in my fee - I coudn't stand to think of them losing out to me... Anyway - back to the real world... very glad you liked it Dave - and the photos. Yes, keep following me during the year and we will catch up somewhere along the W&B! Cheers! Jeff
Thanks Nigel! At 3am eh?! Very glad you enjoyed it, whatever time you watch! Thanks for the kind words too - its always nice to get feedback on the filming / and photos 👍
Nice vlog Jeff enjoyed the short walk around Gas St, Went to check on our little boat yesterday stayed about 5 minutes it was certainly cold, Hope yo managed all your planned trips this year, Take care. 😊
Hi Rob, thanks for commenting - glad you liked it! Must have been cold if you only stayed 5 minutes! I'm trying to figure out a date for visiting Gladys this month - even though I see her on the webcam, I would like to check inside. Yes, I've made a cruising-plan but who knows if I'll manage the schedule - anything could happen! Cheers 👍
Another nice look at the Birmingham canal's Jeff. Must get up there for a look around sometime. Also nice to hear of your plans for 2025. Looking forward to the year ahead.
Morning Jeff, very icy towpaths you were filming along, this really is winter for a change. There are so many people permanently living aboards, it's considerably cheaper than conventional living but a lot more thought needed to keep warm & comfortable with the necessities functioning. I think you're lucky to be able to (finally) have a narrowboat to use when the weather is better! The reflections on the still water in your shots were perfect. Just saw Gladys on the marina camera, very frosty, she stands out well amongst the muted colours & frosted surroundings.
Morning Annie! Yes, definitely a cold day there in Birmingham - and elsewhere too. Another boater has messaged me to say it was minus 5 when they visited their boat at Aqueduct Marina this week... Im so glad I had Gladys winterised or I'd be very worried about frozen pipes etc. I cant wait for it to get milder - hope the forecast is right about that! Glad you liked the still shots - I do take some time to try for the best image I can! Yes, I have a look at the webcam a couple of times each day - not much movement there at the moment, but it looks soooooo cold. You're right - Gladys stands out well amongst the otherwise muted surroundings 👍 Have a nice weekend and stay warm!😁
Certainly was bitterly cold, when I left work the day after you filmed this the throttle of my motorbike was frozen shut, and the seat needed a lot of deicing. Very thankful that the gritters had been out working hard. Definitely not Brompton weather. Great video as always 👍
Wow - the throttle was frozen?! 😮 Yes, the gritters make a huge difference - sadly they don't go down every road and lane - we still have ice on our lane. Brrr... can't imagine riding a bike in this weather! Many thanks for the comment - very glad you liked it! 😁
Morning Jeff, another good vlog . Just wondering if Clive has got his boat Bonnie yet. I’m off to the Lake District at the end of February and will call in to aintree on the way back to see how they are getting on with my 40 footer. Think it’s in the fitting out shed now. It’s really nice in the centre of Birmingham I took my last boat up there about 10 years ago.
Hi James - thanks for the comment - glad you liked the vlog.! I heard from Clive just before Christmas and he was hopeful that Bonnie will be ready this month. So, fingers crossed she'll be afloat very soon. I do hope so, as Clive's been waiting an awful long time - as most Beetle-buyers seem to, unfortunately. Calling in to Aintree on way home sounds a good plan - I hope you'll see some progress when you visit! I always walked in with trepidation whenever I went there. Sometimes happy afterwards and sometimes not. Yes, Birmingham is an amazing place - which I confess I hadn't appreciated before I started going there to make videos. The canal network there is fabulous and I am looking forward to exploring some of the many loops and branches when I get there with Gladys. 👍

At 3am this a peaceful and enjoyable video and interesting too. Doing a good job, Jeff, out in the freezing conditions. Nice pictures and filming.

Ah the game’s almost afoot, well 11 3/4”.
Thank you for the update.
Haha! Nice analogy Dafydd! Yes, we're almost at the start of my 2025 adventures - and I'm happy to say its a bit milder outside today! 😁
