Mods
-Custom cold air intake with custom made heat-shield
-Flipped front motor mounts 90*
so underrated! Nice car and I love the supercharger whine, that's part of the cool factor of these cars!
Nice ride. It's just a crime that any SS cars were ever fwd.
ya, and it handled like a stick of butter... tons of body roll
Fearlessfront
they have stiffer sway bars that will fix that, as well as coil overs and some Polly sway bar bushings!
id prefer rwd on any car i own
fwd does not always have better control, a front wheel drive car actually doesn't have as good of balance as a rear wheel drive car, also front wheel drive vehicles also may have a tendency to understeer or plow coming out of a corner when you accelerate due to loss of grip as the drive wheels are also the wheels you steer with, this is also due to the fact when the car accelerates the weight of the vehicle transfers from the front to the rear, the rear inside tire loses a lot of traction when accelerating out of a corner.
also if i remember correctly the 4T65E-HD transmission in this car has a LSD, limited slip differential, which helps with that.
I know they should of kept the impalas RWD just like the 96 ss! I love the impala ss just hate that its FWD
Very nice, this video just reminds me how the last generation of SS ( 07-09) were different from all of them before, nice to hear the wine on a stop light hero, i have an 09 ss thing rips
@minetwisted the 3800 l67's are solid! mine had like 140k on it. Ran perfect. I sold it to buy a 4 wheel drive, this has been my favorite car I've owned.
Synthedic oil, frequant changes, and keep the salt off it... if you live where it snows.
Nice man! Just bought an 02 Ls with 75,000 miles in flawless condition, 1st thing I'm doing to it is installing a supercharger conversion kit and so forth. It just has the standard 3800 series ii. Also have a 05 3400 motor 70,000 miles with dual MagnaFlows cold air intake just had it tuned...heavily tricked out and fun to drive. Now I just want to keep the Ls stock and beast it under the hood. Really enjoyed your video it gives me that inspiration to proceed!
Hey, I've been down that road before man, the stock 3800 runs a higher compression ratio than the SC version, which means you will have a lot of engine knock unless you run a large pulley and do a bunch of supporting mods. Getting a whole 3800 SC (L67) and putting a smaller pulley on it is a cheaper and easier route to go.
@minetwisted well, the supercharger has it own oil... CHANGE IT! thats about it. they should last waaaaayyy longer then a turbo
these things are torquier than you think! absolute dig monsters
@Fearlessfront It actually has a timing chain xD They arn't as bad in the newer VQs. Buddy on a forum had to replace his at 198k and I baby my car. Just highway miles. The only power mods I have its Intake and exhaust. Not going to do much else cause its a fwd. Also Im not going to argue the reliability of the GM V6s. My camaro went well over 200k miles and not one damn problem.
I got a 05 3.8 impala without the super charger. Even stock i still somehow pull on civics and even an 2nd gen eclipse. And this car is a boat. Better keep the breaks serviced lol
Even my 02 3.2L is eager to take off
My 07 accord would beat you lol
My 04 accord coupe 3.0L 6spd manual would dust your 3.8l. I have the same hp as the supercharger version 240hp. Plus I’m doing a 3.2L swap.
@@MrNeto-cc3zk not me
@@thronewalker1153 why not you?😂 I got a 6-6 accord fbo, tuned and j35 swapped pushin 330 to the WHEEL
LOL i have been watching your lawn tractor videos for awhile now. but when i search for video idea's for my 03 impala i find you again. I wish we could hang out cause we have alot in common as far as being gear heads!
@99MLSMediaGroup Cool, I live near Augusta. And who cares about how fast you can go, as long as it looks nice and you take care of it. I've ALWAYS been WAY more into cars then ive been into off roading lawn tractors. Most of my cars were pretty sweet.
That's the thing with impala's, they are heavy and like to take their time, I have an 08 and I have to put my foot down to get a fast launch, I really love them.
@99MLSMediaGroup I used to have that same car in dark red. I yanked the 2.8 and dropped a 3.1 in it. It was an auto too, but it hauled ass! I've always wanted another. That is my favorite body style z24. It had a punched out cat, and a "super turbo" muffler, it sounded sooo good!
@Stevenhiggles yeah, they have come a looong was since the old 2.8v6's gm used to put in everything. 400 hp in a front wheel driv has got to be crazy, Like the new GXP's, must have a lot of torque steer. I should do an updated video of this thing soon. I've improved the intake, and added a few small touches to the outside. I wish I had a race track, or at least a dyno shop hear me.... Living in Maine sux
it does. they changed to the v8 in 2006
@curtismundy They should have put these motors in some trucks or at least an suv like the S-10 or Blazer. It would be alot of fun! The boost kicks in at really low rpm, so it would work well.
@Josh660RaptorTjel I *think* the supercharged motors come with forged pistons and rods, so be careful, the other pistons could be a downgrade. not 100% sure though
@Growl60 Thats what I hear! Before I bought this car, I read alot of reviews on these motors, and it was tough to find anyone with anything negative to say. And there very easy to work on.
I have one just like in the video-nasty in black, lol. A damn fine automobile it is. Got about 109K mi. on it now. All stock and original. Still looks almost new.
@DesnutsInYoMouth Yeah, for some reason gm thought it would be a good idea to put super long gears in these things... It's great on the highway, 80 mph it runs around 2k rpm
@Stevenhiggles yup, I look at a maxima b4 I bought this, have fun with that timing belt! I wanted something low maintenance, easy to get power out of. for about $80 I could drop a pulley size i'd be over 300lbft. of torque. another few hundred and it'd be about 300 reliable horse power. I've seen these motors pulling 12 sec quarter miles with 200,000+ miles on them. all this car has is an intake
Nice car man.. been watching ur vids for some time and was looking up impalas and it brought me here i wish i had the 3.8 supercharger ll i have a 02 with the 3.4 v6 and for a big body car she gets moving lol shes gonna become my newest project
@peroxidal it come as factory equipment on this car. It has an L67 engine. I donno about a 3900 series engine... My guess would be no
@CSAKvids Yeah, they never offered them in a manual. I don't think any cars with this motor ever came with a manual. It would be alot faster with shorter gears.
I've got the 3800 super in my 04 monte, I'm hooked on supercharged. ITS not a beast but alota fun.
Go to zzperformance. They have a few things that can add 30-45hp. Liquid intercooler etc
I have an 04, v6 3.4L with 240k miles, still runs like a champ after some mods
@Nick84349861785 They come stock on the SS. But you can find them on ebay and salvage yards. They're pretty reliable and rebuild-able.
@imserious2187 I donno, I *THINK* the GTP's have a lower final drive ratio which makes them accelerate a little faster. Pontiac has always been gm's "sporty/performance" line-up of cars, so they probably made it a little faster for bragging rights. I still love this car, It was neck and neck with my buddies supercharged 06 Cobalt ss, and I have 4 doors and a luxury interior. Not bad IMO...
@topmeat69 Agreed, My truck used to rip awesome donuts. But I live in Maine, where it snows 4 months out of the year. I wouldn't be able to drive anywhere if I only had rear wheel drive. As it is, this has a little too much power to the front wheels to make it comfortable to drive in the slick stuff. I wish it were rwd, i'd drift my way to work.
@Fearlessfront . I got a 96 Impala SS and most of us guys that got a 94-96 like to say it was the last impala and these new ones are fake. But take it from me a b-body, rwd v-8 owner that you got a great car. The 3800 is a legendary engine and was a supercar killer in the Regal GN. I also haev a 05 Monte carlo SS which is essentially the same build as your impala. Another $1500 and you get 300+ hp and a whole lot of fun
@V8Mike93 Probably not, when hers went, I was driving it, and it was running on 3 cylinders. At first, I thought it was a bad plug, but ended buying a compression tester and finding the cyl 4 was waaayyy low.... So off came the head. That was at like 99,000 miles. I know that head gaskets are a common problem in those things, at first i thought that was the problem. You probably have bad/stuck valve lash adjusters...
@aj103015 So far just the intake. You couldn't hear it all before.
this one had high miles, but it still ran great.. put you and 3 friends in it, and be doin 80mph in about 8 seconds... its nuts.
Those GM 3.8s are indestructable.
Hear the ol super charger whine. I'm a ford guy, but I'm a fan of the Impala ss, ltz, lumina z34 and the V8 grand Prix and Bonneville. I currently own a 2017 SHO and 2004 marauder.
@Imprtd ive seen tons of videos of Supras blowing the doors off pretty much everything. they are a true supercar!
i love the 3.8 supercharged motors
@boger11b I've heard horror stories like that... I'll stay away from a pulley swap till I have a tune. I'm suprized it didn't trash the inside of the motor!
@punchmaster123 I guess you could say that, however it is faster and handles better then every single model impala ever made before it. It's just not rwd...
@getoffmeluckycharms I think he meant king as far as cars equipped with the l67.
@Stevenhiggles Really? I wasn't aware they changed it to a chain. Do you have the 2.5s? I've seen a black one around town here, and it's has some work done... looks nice. I saw a diagram of the maxima's v6, and the timing belt went around the crank, idler, water pump, two cams, another idler, two more cams, and I think another idler and tentioner.... it was scarry..( I do all my own maintenance)
@ivanynana I'm gonna be working on it more soon, just got hid and some other stuff which I plan to review... Stay tuned... lol
thats sweet , I would so prefer this compared to a regal
i prefer the regal.. my dad has had both he has the ss now the ss is nice but not much of a sleeper compared to the regal which he had pushing over 300hp and the ss has a gen 2 motor not gen 3 like the regal
98-04 Regal GS's never got the series 3. Only the 04-05 Grand Prix GTP and 06-07 Grand Prix GT got the series 3 260HP SC engine. All Regal's got the series 2. Just like the 04-05 Monte Carlo SS Supercharged and 04-05 Impala SS. Just like the 93 and older Grand Prix GTP's. You have zero idea what you're talking about. The only thing you said that is accurate is that Buick's with the 3800 Series 2 supercharged make better sleepers being most people know nothing about drivetrain options on different cars. Anyone even seen a 99 Oldsmobile 88 LSS haul ass and put a hurting on a C5 Corvette? Now that's a sleeper. Guess the drivetrain in the Olds?
@Fearlessfront Yea I'm around Bangor. I have a 1989 Chevy Cavalier Z24 all stock, except the top half of the engine has been replaces and its getting a new exhaust. its around 235HP i think.
@imserious2187 The GTP has a SERIES 3 3800 and the Impalas/Monte have a SERIES 2 3800. The SERIES 3 has 260hp Stock...got just a lil bit more
no, My drive to work is really bumpy, and had frost heaves... I didn't want to kill it, so I sold it..
It sucked because I loved this car
yours is different, you have a v8, this one has a supercharged v6. Thats why the intake makes so much noise.
As far as I know, you can put an intake on any car, just put the sensors on the new setup.
@99MLSMediaGroup Yup, I live in Maine
fire impala bro
Sweet ass ride bro..!! I'm still looking for one to purchase with low miles..!!! Sweet sweet car love the sound..!!!
I went to advance auto and built it out of "Specter" parts and filter.. it's actually nice quality stuff
Nice ride bro and u deserve more then wht u think man u shouldnt be so negative towards urself
@V8Mike93 My wife drives a Pt, I had to replace a burnt exaust valve in it about a year ago... That was fun!
@getoffmeluckycharms Yeah, I'm a sucker for the looks too, I hope to improve the whole thing once shes paid off. As far as handling, it's not great, but i think it has a lot to do with the fact that you don't really feel how fast your going... It feels like it has a lot of body roll, but you look at the speedo and your doing 65, and it feels like 45.
@TheSmokeyjoe120691 I've worked on a few l67's and NEVER heard one whine at idle. even with smaller pullies... I'm guessing somethings wrong with your setup, or it's not an m90.
i had an 07 impala ss wit the 5.3 in it that car is bad ass
@BstThangSmkn theres nothing wrong with it, it runs pretty close (just under) to the stock times, thanks to the soft tires. And that was a really low rpm second gear pull, normally it's not into 2nd till about 55. And I know It's not the fastest thing on the road, I really don't care either... It's a full size family car, not a vette.
I pulled on my buddies 06 cobolt ss pretty easy, so it's not "slow" either.
Bad ass car man! Ive alwayse liked impala.
Got myself an 04’ Impala with 56k miles currently, definitely looking to improve power
Zzp stage 2 kit, I have it on mine and it works great
@CSAKvids Very true, I guess simplicity sells.
lol the first video i watched of you was you driving over the gavel piles in your drive. I laughed my ass off and had to show my mom and her boy friend when they came over. They had a good laugh at this video also and replied that kid must be a friend of your lol but lets see him rip a wheelie with out coming off a dirt pile! I used to have an old briggs garden tractor it was small for a tractor and i would go every where and do anything with it lol.
I have a 2000 Impala LS convert to SS 3.8L Supercharged
- GForce Perfomance Chip +60 Hp, Trans ratio change, tighten, 2min fan cool
- K&N FIPK Cold Air/Fuel Injection kits stage 2
- M90 Positive displacement Supercharger
- v1.0 Impala PCM Reprogram
- Magnaflow Headers/Cat/Rez/Muffler High Flow
- 225/R60/16 Michelin Hydroedge Ultra Tires
- ATE Race Rotors and Pads
- MDS Ignition
- Race Cam Holley
- 94 Octane
- Hertz Stereo System 700W@2ohms
- Lumens 8000k HID Heads/Fogs
- 389hp/378ftlbs torque
the whole thing is custom made.. A purchased cai would sound the same, you really just need to replace the factory filterbox with an open element filter and it'll work. but a full kit would perform better
I got a 2019 Impala Premier I love that car but my dream car is tha 96 Impala imma get one one of these days
Lol* anyway I have the v6. Its more reliable than the QR 2.5 plus almost as efficient. I'm a N/A person my self and also do the repairs if any myself if I have the tools. There's a Altima ser on my forum that's over 400 @ 8psi but he had a good number of motor work done with the last addition being cams before the S/C. V6s have so much potential today
@Fearlessfront Mines a 5 speed. I think for a 2.8 v6 its fast. I've had it at 120mph. Never winter driven i'm the second owner. Won't be on the road til next spring or i might be forced to sell it.
Yes indeed this car has a very good start engine if you are to put up there and take it even better what a good idea I might do it mine.
Probably wont fit in a golf... its a pretty tall motor with the supercharger on top. The one thing I would change on these is the second gear. I have a 2005 grand prix gtp and second gear doesn't pull near as hard as first.
I agree 100%
Why that car sounded amazing
Are those Maine plates? Looked like it. The car is pretty cool, i love those engines has one in my last car.
Still a badass car
I find it easy to launch the car. Power brake a little and roll into the throttle. Not full wot right off the bat. Just takes a little practice
i had a 2000 buick park avenue ultra with a 3800 supercharger on it.. was a blast to pull up next to a modified rice burner and blow his ass away with an old buick LMAO... but it had 200k on it and still purred like a kitty.. did have to replace one injector on it and every now and then during a start the first 3 min there be a lil ticking in it once it got near 200k on her.. but she cleared up and she PUUUUUUREDDDD!!!!and still never lost her power!! i got a 04 ss now same engine and have 130k
I knew next to nothing about cars a few days ago, ive recently bought the 04 impala ss and had no idea how beautiful of a car it can be untill I seen this video the whine of your sc is AMAZING. As soon as I heard it I had to find out how Ive done my research and now know I need a cai could you please please break down to me how you made your cai with the heat shield. Or explain weather or not an aftermarket cai would make the same whine? any help will be great im wanting to learn all i can.
how reliable has this car been i have one now with 35000 on it hoping it will be a long lasting car
Nice man, I have the same car. 40mph pulls makes these cars feel like dogs though, I like a 30 or 55.
Love thw whine of the fwd.... not so much bro,,,
Old school 94-96 is the ticket
by the looks of your plate your from maine, i live in bucksport, i'm thinking about getting a '04 impala ss from cars by us, i just got a volvo xc90 and i hate it! I have alot of experience with the l67's i owned 3 GTP's i'd a impala ss would be a good daily i have a built '98 camaro for a few days out of the week. i just got rid of my base '01 impala and loved the ride.
That might have been the accessory belt lil I know the VQ engines have timing chains. Early models depending on the type of VQ (all 3.5s) had timing chain problems where it would shred apart and kill the engine.
imwas trying to say the supercharger must make the valves float earlier. . probably be wise to upgrade the seat pressure. which probably raises the curve
I love the these year models of Impala SS. The later ones are iffy. And I agree about the top end sucking. I'm not sure about the quickness though I do have an Evo so mostly everything else seems slow to me, lol
I know, but it's low to the ground, and my roads are very rough out here
@charger4332 Also wanted to say, congrats on having a REAL camaro.... I hate the newer style ones..(96-2005 or whatever) I do like the new 2011 camaros though!
The 3800 was a beautiful engine, how GM designed something so competently is beyond me.
But, everything else... gosh, bleeding cash. Do you still have it?
@charger4332 I raced a 67 vette, and he was trying real hard.. He probably would have won, but it would have been close. It's funny that my fully loaded, 4door family car runs with v8's. and it's has yet to be modded...
A car like that (I have the identical one, just drive it in the summer) is a show car as well as a mussel car under disguise. Those exhaust pipes need to be cleaned with VIM or stainless steel wipes before you do a video. They shine beautifully. Also, part of the disguise is it's quietness, so don't expect to get a deep mussel car sound out of those factory pipes. It is not meant to be, it's not a rattle snake it is one of those more quiet, more deadly ones............. get the picture, I have surprised more than 1 sports car driver as I left them FAR behind. And don't go doing something stupid like put a set of those loud mufflers on it. I just put a set of Goodyear GT EAGLE Aqua wide tracks on mine, they just clear from scrubbing on the body. Got a real good grip on the road. Take care of it, it's a beauty
I love mussel cars
a v6 impala is muscle car? god i hate people like you, im sure you beat so many sports cars
rebuildng one of these is a pain in the ass my bro shattered a piston in his from upgraded pullie no tune and bad gas when it shattered it didnt touch the cylinder wall i was very suprised at that fact
i don't know why people always talk shit about the switching the v8 out for the supercharged v6...the only thing i'm mad about is they aren't RWD...i still wanna get one though impala's are dope
@getoffmeluckycharms pretty sure their 5.3l 300hp engines. northstar was only for cadillac and late olds
Just bought that exact car the otherday things a freaking beast. I want to give it more get up in first gear but its no just not a manual i guess
Sick ride. Even if it is faster, it's nuthin compared to the 96 imp. No V8,RWD.
@Fearlessfront how many miles do you have now? im looking at one right now one thing i hate is the chrome grill it would look so much better black dont u think?
@Michael Dorn 04 and 05 had impala ss, they came stock with the l67
@seanya9989 yes, the l67
Even better than the legendary 7th gen Impala SS with the LT1 in it?
Damn you should do a impala update.. sweet car.. mine only has the 3.4 lol
Nice car !! I bought the 08 SS and that's FWD too :\ And pulls very hard on the wheel especially trying to pass someone or juicing it on the corners. have you had any engine troubles with the cold air intake? I'm thinking on getting one but I've been told not to cause of the sensors. All I've done is put on straight pipes which helps remind my welfare neighbor to get a job every morning buhaha
i believe its 240 hp. i got a 98 ssei with that same motor and a 99 aurora with 250 hp
Stock for stock, these newer supercharged V6 models are faster. But I don't even own this car anymore.
