If only compensation was doled out fairly commensurate with talent. Taylor Swift made 266 million touring in 2018. For her album Reputation. Name one song off that album that you love. That you remember. That you hum. It sold well. Won awards. Yet nothing memorable. Today's music world is dominated by crap. The artists who flock it become richer. The artists like Tori Kelly who don't care about becoming pop icons and who follow their heart, struggle. They get some notice but not nearly enough. Tori Kelly is significantly more talented and better looking than Swift. Her bank account is 1/133rd that of Swift's.

@@wpl6661 why pit two kind, sweet ladies against each other? Both have talents. Tori is a power house vocalist/storyteller songwriter. Taylor is a warm voice storyteller songwriter. Only a musician can appreciate both.
To do what Batiste is doing here is quite amazing. To be able to instantly match her tone with what he plays, without any sort of rehearsal to know what to expect she'd do with the song... that's pure musical talent right there.

Jennifer Bureau It's wonderful and he is very gifted! This singing style is called rubato; it's where there's a very expressive, loose rhythmic freedom by constantly slowing down or speeding up of the tempo between the singer and the accompanist! It's not that easy to do because there is a lot of musical interdependence and intuition at play, and usually requires an accompanist who knows how to listen very well to the singer's breathing patterns! Usually pianist or guitarist who come from a gospel/church background are the best for this style! I'm sure he has some of that in his pocket! Bravissimo!!!!

that is because he doesn't KNOW what he is doing. There is no thought to what he is doing. Sis heart and soul is creating the music- then his mind recognizes it after he plays it. He is a musician like no other. Shear genius!

I listened to her jingle the nation wide phrase so I was like oh cool nice voice looked up her album all her music filled up with techno background you can hardly hear her voice over it lmao ruins it for me. She should do more songs like this one.
True-Guesser Her newest album, Inspired by True Events, is more like this than Unbreakable Smile. I love both because her voice still shines through regardless of the production style

@@extoxico277 maybe you haven't heard 'all' of her music lmao. It was her Unbreakable Smile album that didn't really show off her amazing vocals (though there's one song that showcases her voice in that album called "Funny"). I still love that album despite the production.
Try listening to her EP ("Handmade Songs"), her gospel album ("Hiding Place"), and her latest album ("Inspired by true events").
Damn, how good are these two?! The pure talent and passion are just pouring out of this, that's the true magic of an impromptu performance that's so good even the performers are taken aback by it 🖤

Anyway it is all praises to God for giving her that talent and helping her use it for His glory
Not necessarily perfect pitch (although it's certainly possible) but mostly that she definitely knows what chords she's hearing played.
This is a true masterclass between composer and artist! A masterclass in composing by the incredible Jon Batiste and a masterclass in signing by the outstanding Tori Kelly! They are both playing to each other’s strengths. Listening and adjusting to each other. As a result, complete magic! Bravo in the highest regards!
