Don't judge them too harshly. I have seen lots of belt tests, it is amazing how terrible the performance can be under test pressure even for people with very accurate technique. Suddenly their stance gets too narrow, the knee wanders backward from the correct position, and the wrong stance deteriorates all technique. The only thing that is still going for them is the effort they make. In my opinion at this point it is the tester's responsibility to bring out the maximum from the students. After all he wants to test their skills not their aptitude at taking tests. Pretty reasonable fighters can do so dumbass things on a test sparring too, even if they can perform very well for example on tournaments.
Those kids worked hard, they showed spirit.... Please avoid posting negative comments.. They deserve respect...... This is Martial Arts, remember Dojo Kun.
I don't believe in belt ranks for kids. They can't fight to save their lives. There used to be a 13 years old "second Dan black belt" in my old sensei's dojo and I was a brown belt, and the kid couldn't hit me even one time in an entire sparring match. No matter what color you put on their waist, a Kid cannot defend themself in a real life or death fight. It's a joke and it shouldn't even be allowed in serious martial arts dojos.
I love their hard work. I do NOT appreciate sloppy kata. It is most important to practice so much even under pressure the body still performs proper technique. these kids work hard I can tell. But they need even more. Train their muscles to accept lower stance and proper hip rotation. They'll get their as they age.
Great spirit, keep up the good work! To the negative comments maybe you need to look in the mirror.Karate is about self development, building confidence and becoming a better person,Karate is never first attack and teaches us the avoid conflict and always stay humble. Good job kids. Here in Japan, Blackbelt (Sho dan) 1st dan. Means you have completed all the basics (Kihon) and now starting your real journey. These kids do deserve their blacks belts and I'm sure they have worked hard. However looking at their stances and balance, it looks like the Kihon has not been polished. It happens here in Japan, its more of a timing thing. Kids are grading every 3 months but not everybody is at the same level. However they are in the same school, class etc, their parents are friends etc. Therefore its important for sensei to keep the grading moving (in the case of Japan). However now is the time to ignore grading speeds at black belt. Kihon needs to be nailed before taking that 2nd.
Here I am at Orange belt feeling nervous about my black belt.. I feel totally capable but I really suffer with my nervousness! I think I need some help to overcome it
I really wish my graduation was easy like that! But, besides everything congrats to the new black belts and please train much harder, you guys really need it!
Its more so just a move to turn around. Its taken lightly unless you consistently do the technique itself wrong. Edit: Nvm, I guess they were just taught it that way. Moves can be done differently depending on how the sensei teches it. That used to bug me a little at kata competitions, when other clubs would come over.
It seems unusual to reset to a slow gedan barai after each technique rather than carry on from the last but thats the way the sensei taught it, makes no difference to observe the techniques just unnecessary.
@@danbo4253 understandably so, however I think I was just taught a more ‘hands on’ approach to shotokan where we would constantly be paired up. Even in kata sometimes! haha.
Traditional JKA does not allow blackbelts for anyone under 16, you can see the speed, stamina and technical differences between the three younger kids and the young man on the right.
Karate is easily the most dangerous martial art in the world, mainly because it gives people a false sense of security. If they got into a fight they'd be fucked.
I feel sorry for these kids, they’ve probably put in a lot of effort and not got much out of it due to bad teaching. you can tell they work hard but they are not of the standard they should be to earn a black belt. I hope they moved on to a better dojo and corrected their bad habits!
@@DoomGuy-kf8fv watching back maybe it was a bit harsh but the stances are at a standard of a lower grade level, overall the technique is not good but they are sharp and clearly are very driven. they deserve the belt for their effort but the technique is poor
Can u defend yourself in a real fight with shotokan I'm studying it now how long until one is proficient in combat.. we do punch kick block pretty much everyday except for learning Kata which idk how I feel about kata it's boring and annoying
If you do not master the kata and understand the bunkai (practical application) of the kata you are doing yourself in very badly. Kata is the heart and soul of karate. Spend time on getting the techniques down in a kata.
@@emmsthefemms Dan-grade is a master grade. You have to perform all of the techniques with precision, power and kime. As a black belt you have to be so good, that you are able to teach other. Dan grade is the starting grade, just means you have understood the basics, See mahiro takano and tell me that you are better than her when she was 10.
Shodan means, literally, first step. Getting a black belt was never intended to be a sign of mastery, it's more like a new driver taking the L plates off.
All nice but first boy needsto work on his hip rotation im sure he works hard but i could not give him first dan till he can rotate his hips and do a decent kizami - gyaku tzuki They all need to sit into their kiba dachi all of them just get down please Perhaps another 3 months of work would be better to retest im mean no offence
Technique looks sharp, their stances/ stability need a little work. Their front kick lacks snap, and they aren’t using the ball of their foot. Reverse punch needs more hip rotation. Overall they did very well. Earning your Black belt marks the true beginning of your training. Great work guys:)
There's nothing wrong with young kids earning black belts providing that they are proficient enough.Obviously some of you don't know what your talking about.I've seen lots of brilliant kids who thoroughly deserve their black belts. These kids need better instruction as its not their fault.you only have to look at the black belt who joined them to see their problem as he is probably one of the instructors. so hard to watch. These kids have spent like 4-5 years working really hard... and they do not know how to throw a punch... what a waste of time in my opinion and it can cost them their life IF they have to use these 'skills' in the real world...

the kanku dai looked like heian godan instead. did they say the wrong kata name?
it was heian godan, they did bassai dai instead of kanku
It was shitei kata (sensei request) not tokui.

Is there practical sparring where the other fighter doesnt stand still while being hit in black belt?
And their coach as well
that looks easy puching and stuff

Does the black belt stays with you when you will be over 18 years old ? Or you need to collect belts again ?
Dingo it stays forever
that´s strange in jui jitsu kids are not allowed to get blue belts+ only if they reach 16 years old .
But good luck in you´re exam

I think the slow gedan barai has been added to kihon to reset for some reason, its no big deal.
