Wheel base on the WRX is too long currently. I'm not sure they are willing to make a homologation vehicle that doesn't match a frame they currently run. I'd love to see it though.
It’s faster. The rules of American rally were written to favor it over Rally2 cars as well as ban Rally1 cars after Block brought the Hyundai over and almost beat Subaru USA to the title. The end result was Subaru America/Lance Smith/VSC reminding ARA that they have been the only factory team for years so ARA got the message and wrote new rules to favor Subaru.
Part of me hopes Toyota helps them get back into WRC. Right now Subi's are too long for WRC regulations, maybe Subi can build something off a Toyota frame thats regulation. GR86/BRZ is an amazing car, makes me drool over what they could build together.
Toyota owns stake of Subaru Corporation, formerly known as Fuji Heavy Industries. This is neither a majority stake, nor a direct investment in Subaru Automotive division. This means that Subaru is still largely independent and can make the decision to compete in WRC if they wanted to - Toyota doesn't have a say in the matter. Unfortunately, Subaru seems utterly determined to be boring going forwards
Subaru refuses to develop new engine platforms. WRC would require them to design/build an inline 4. This is why they just beat up on regular people who rally out of their garage on their spare time.
@@backwerdsman While they are beating up on privateers, they are also pretty much the only reason there is rally in USA... so, whatever it takes I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@blubug768 I was spectating rally in the US before Subaru or Block/Pastrana, etc. was here. US rally has been happening since before I was born. It's had many ups and downs. If you talk to US rally drivers, "US rally is dying" is literally a meme. It's weird, ARA is what it is now because of Subaru, but it's also stagnant because of Subaru.

@deadl0x873 Tell that to Ford Europe fans who think Ford US and Ford Europe are somehow two different companies. So, to them, the Ford Rally Cars aren't American. If they aren't American, then this Subaru Rally Car isn't Japanese since it is a fully tube frame built in the US with no relation to the road car other than exterior looks and engine.
Subaru has the shorter 2 door Hatchback Impreza, they should bring that into WRC at the top level again. Or they had it, but they could easily bring it back into production and if they entered WRC with it at Rally 1 level, it would start selling again in big numbers, if they made a good looking one that's Rally spec. WRC really needs to change the rules to have cheaper production based cars and not these super expensive cars, that are built around a roll cage with carbon fiber body, only roof is made out of sheet metal. Would bring in lots more manufacturers and even privateers could have a go at it and be somewhat competitive.

Things would be really interesting if Subaru attended WRC2

The crazy thing for me is that "it looks slow" on the exterior shots because I'm used to WRCars.

Is it comparable with rally2 performance?

I wonder if Toyota didnt own Subaru would they compete in WRC.

Subaru is a Japanese brand right? Not from the United States?
Yes, but they have the Subaru USA branch who partnered with Vermont Motorsport to make this car.
