I believe the reason that you got into experimental on accident is because when you were disabling gadgets you accidentally misclicked or something, I'm pretty sure there is a way to switch modes in the same menu as disabling gadgets and all that stuff.

the game switching to experimental is an issue with bmg, not with you. happened to me playing friendly 2s, never switched any settings or exited my room, next thing I know I'm in experimental 1v1 when i expected 2v2.
