What do you use for a glaze? Is it glossy or matte? Does it handle the heat without discoloring if you use real flame tea lights?

Hi, I use matt acrylic varnish. The result looks semi-glossy though. I have been using my painted clay candle holders with real tealights and so far there's no discoloration.
