I do think you're overthinking this one. He's a middle aged man in a very stressful marriage. She is a beautiful younger woman who pays him some positive attention. Carmella is critical of every aspect of Tony's life and behavior while Adrianna looks at him with awe. So he got infatuated and fantasized about running away with her. He never consciously acknowledged his children because if he did, it would have instantly ruined the daydream. And a daydream is all it was. He just had a crush.
i don’t think there can be such a thing or at least the threshold for “overthinking” is so high given the Sopranos is a show that causes you to think at times, especially when Tony is introduced to new information regarding his own deeper issues. i think the vid was pretty good but again, that’s probably just me cause i like thinking more about what’s been given with a show like The Sopranos.
Kind of weird for him to think it odd to sleep with a one legged woman. I mean who cares? I'm sure he would still want to have sex on occasion if he lost a limb.
I think Tony likes his idea of a woman rather than the actual woman (who they really are). If he got with Adrianna, he would eventually treat her like he did Carmela.
Tony said the same thing about Charmaine. This like from him didn’t strike me as weird at all. It’s actually right on par with Tony constantly projecting that his current situation is a reflection of his romantic choices rather than an emotional and moral deficit. I think this also demonstrates his view of Christopher as a man in Tony’s eyes. There is a fundamental lack of respect for both Chris and (for much more valid reasons) Ralph. He can take both of their women with little internal conflict.
The difference is the Charm was a grown woman he slept with ba k in high school. Adrianna is someone with daddy issues and who Tony has a father/uncle relationship, she is also MUCH younger than Charm or Carmela. Also she IS related by blood to Carmela. It is technically incest within the extended family. It is down right creepy by tony, and note that he entertained leaving his fmaily for someone who is like a niece to him.

I think Tony was just having a day dream. Just like how we sometimes fantasize about being mobsters and getting free soft drinks of choice, Tony as a mobster sometimes daydreams about making pots in Peru or joining the Green Berets and being some kind of interior decorator.
Tony goes through phases of being infatuated with a woman that usually lasts between 1 to 3 episodes: Dr Melfi (a few times), Gloria, Charmaine, Valentina. Even his episode where he starts having feelings for Irina
I didn't draw the connection - his little what ifs about charmaine are JUST LIKE this ade stuff. He never has to nurse sexual curiousity for long because he just sleeps with whomever. But like most middle aged men he's wondering what if I could have a do-over? Knowing he cant think beyond immediate gratification, I don't see anything serious to worry about as far as tony pursuing another full on relationship unless his marriage really ended.
Hearing “mad ripe” and “creaming” when you are high as fuck is funny as fuck. You just make me laugh so fucking much because everything goes together 😂😂😂
Tony isn't fantasizing about Adriana, really. I think he is really just daydreaming about getting away from the Mafia and living a simpler lifer selling Patio furniture off Route 22. Adriana is just a vector for that.
I always saw it as pure fantasy; like I could quit my job and go live in the woods, I could abandon my kids and join the circus; I could leave all of this stress, the mob the life behind and go be with Adrianna. We all have fantasies and like Tony with Carmella think up reasons not to do it. Ultimately Tony wants to get away from the stress and responsibility and his own issues, Adrianna is just the face he gave his dream but in reality he'd turn on her when life again doesn't go his way.
This is weird, but this is a "normal" weird thought - at least for someone like Tony. Tony isn't young. He looks at Christopher as a younger version of himself. He looks at Adrianna as the kind of girl he'd be with. Her apparent attraction to him is a boost to his esteem. It suggests he can still get "the kind of girl" he could get as a young man. He knows that's not strictly true. But he fantasies about getting away from his responsibilities and starting again. This time, he'd do it right. Adrianna comes to represent this silly fantasy. His excuses seem bizzare. Getting rinsed in the divorce? Yes, this seems like a ridiculous excuse. But in reality, it's just an example of Tony starting to think of reality. He knows the reality is that he can't go back in time. He's not a young man. He can't start over. What he said was just childish. He's like a small 12 year old boasting to his friends that he could be the biggest kid in class in a fight. He believes the statement when he starts the sentence, starts to realise he's being ridiculous towards the end of the sentence. Then doubles down on the statement when his friends express doubt, but comes up with an excuse not to fight the kid. "Duncan thinks he's so tough, but I could take him! I'd kick his butt!" "What? Really?"" "Of course I could. He's not so tough. But his sister is hot, and she'd hate me afterwards". Tony's conversation is just a combination of a humble brag, some virtue signalling, getting overexcited about a compliment, fantasising about regaining his youth, then rapidly coming up with a rationalisation for not doing it in a way that avoids admitting that his fantasy was ridiculous - in order to avoid interrogating the idea further as a means of avoiding losing face. It's all very silly, but very human.

I was sold on the synopsis of it being a dark comedy/satire following the suits leading the world's largest corporation or whatever, but I just wasn't pulled in.
Tony wants to express his fear. He feels trapped. Penned in by his own short sightedness and bad life decisions. His impulsiveness and self delusions are there to help hiom hide from the nightmare his life is quickly becoming. He wants an escape capsule. He wants out, but they keep pulling him back in. :D
These changes in Tony’s behavior come about in such a slow pace you barely even notice until season six where he basically becomes the male version of his mother.
I feel like tony becomes more sympathetic and understanding after he got shot , way more than he wants the others to know , but regardless , in a business sense , he becomes more depraved and pragmatic and cold hearted
This video makes me think back to Christopher’s sexually charged nightmare when Adriana turned into Carmela. In my dreams people turn into other people all the time. The sopranos is the only show or movie I’ve watched that accurately reflects the randomness of dreams
I'd say that running away with Ade is probably just a day dream that he entertains for a small moment in conversation with Melfi. After all, therapy is where he can just think out loud and express ideas and feelings that he is not necessarily serious about. As I think you've shown in the video, he clearly hasn't begun to think it through, e.g. what about AJ and Meadow etc.
yeah i always felt it was pretty obvious adriana was willing to do anything for chrissi and that she was just willing to go along with whatever Tony said because 1) he's the boss🫣 and 2) the feds were in her ear telling her to help herself. which is clearly what she wanted and implied she was trying to do. help the feds get to tony. so that they he can get out of the life. i actually think theres some merit to that theory and how it is played in contrast to tony who feels he could just runaway with ade.
Probably the best episode on the show. The event that changed everything, the no retourn line. I always interpretated Sopranos as a show that's presented from Toni's point of view, so Carmela, even tho very atractive for many fans, is never presented as a "hot" character in the show, and even in her sex scenes with Tony, I could feel some sad/awkard vives, like Tony was forcing himself to like her. Meanwhile, the show goes all the way to depict Adraina as a hot, sexual, atractive girl, wich leads me to belive that all along, instead of Melfi, Tony's secret crush was Adriana. He always defended her with Cristofer, told him to keep her around, allowed her to hang around his inner circle and felt distressed when she died. Tony is a very proud man so he probably never admited this to himself, but I always felt like he was jelous of Cristofer, who's young, brave and liked, thus, begin the possesive man that he is, he would always desire to take his woman. It's a tension that was there from the very begining, but buttled up, and ultimately, it became the conflict that set all of the events from the final episodes in motion, the "weak link" of the New Jersey family.
I think it's just ego. Tony thinks he can have literally anyone he wants. Plus Tony is sad, and is tired of his life. It's a day dream. You can think about stuff in real world terms and still know it's a fantasy. But yeah I get what you mean.
At the beginning of the video, 0:12. did you say keeping "dysentery among the ranks at a minimum?" lol Did you think it was 'dissentery" (sic) meaning a bunch, faction or grouping of dissent? Dysentery is an infection of the bowls; you could have just said "trying to keep dissent" among the ranks at a minimum. Anyway, we all say funny words, I loved it and appreciate your videos.
Holy smokes, man! Overthinking it or not, this is pretty damn effing cool and in-depth analysis! Well done! When you mentioned Ade catching, not pitching, I immediately though of Chris's dream (dreams in general, being - among other things - about insecurities). I'm referring to the dream where "in the Czech Republic too, they love pork!" and he sees Ade uhmm... having a big fat sausage. After the crash, the feds, hearing the gossip, even make fun Tony's weight. And apparently, the gossip among the ranks wouldn't have even been that far-fetched, if Phil wouldn't have, without intent, put a stop to it just in time.
Adrianna is a ten? Strike one. Been enjoying your content, but this is the first real red flag indicating questionable comprehension. Her aquiline features (among others) necessarily preclude her from anything higher than a seven. Nice bod, but the grill is smashed. Oooof.
The timing of this vid is nice cause I just watched that episode last night (doing my annual Soprano's re-watch). But I don't think running away & abandoning everything is what he was contemplating. He was thinking to just start over with a new public relationship, like his sister & Bobby. In his head, Christopher would either accept it or get dealt with. He's a boss, so everyone else will fall in line & be supportive, regardless if they agree with it or not... he knows their obedience can be counted on. Similar to how they laugh at his jokes even when he knows they're not as funny as the amount of laughter suggests.
Never ever saw Aide running away with Tony. She's done too for Christopher. It's strange how people entertain this as if she was some tramp. She's no Skylar. Christopher was stronger, better, faster, greater, braver than Jesse. If anything Aide was trying to entrap him. Get Tony turned on or out of the way for her and Chrissy.
@@ButtersCCookie I never said Aide would agree to it. I was just saying what I think was going on in the fantasy in Tony's head. I don't know what you're trying to say when you mention Skylar & Jesse... but I will say that Aide was not that smart. She was very easy to manipulate. Her pulling anyone into her web was just unlikely. It was always the other way around. When the feds 1st approached her, most people would've said "Lawyer" immediately, and never got pulled into their web. Another example is when Matush got her to help cover up a murder... and if Tony never crashed that night with her in the car, we all know where that was going. Then final example of her being easily manipulated, believing Tony on the phone & letting Silvio come pick her up, right after admitting to Christopher that she's been working with the feds.
That line was crazy,we all have had thoughts about things we know we can’t have but if you are smart you keep it to yourself no harm done,Tony actually spoke his words into existence granted it was Melfi so he obviously knew it was privileged.
Carmella was hot like Adriana when she was young. That is what he misses. Getting a hot girl based on being young and appealing and not rich and domineering.
It wasn't about Ade, it was about Tony going through a separation. Every man takes it hard when the wife kick him out of his own house, imagine the emotional impact of it on someone like Tony.
I defer to you on these issues, and on all things, cineranter, but Tony doesn't really 'make a play' for Adrianna. It's just something hovering in the air that neither of them really confront.
The Shah was a great Iranian name and that was our name originally. But many years ago, when cineranter uploaded that youtube video from Sicily, they changed it from Shah to Shaw
Adriana would have hooked up with Tony that night. She even was telling the agent who was mocking her to the other Feds. On another note why did Tony insult Chris like that when he came back. "She's a knockout a 10. You're a 4 at best" or some shit like that. Was Tony just bitter?
Tony would have a better chance with Reanon, A J 's Crazy hospital Friend who gave up Tony's Location to New York so he could be killed while Meadow trys to park for half an hour, and the rest of the fam are sharing onion rings..
He sees how much she actually loves Chris. Carm wouldn’t stay with Tony if he didn’t support her lifestyle. But, I think he says that to justify sleeping with her in his mind. That his intentions would be to do it right this time.
What to know how the sopranos is just the TV show? I could never see a mob boss talking to a therapist and living past a year without being labeled a rat

These changes in Tony’s behavior come about in such a slow pace you barely even notice until season six where he basically becomes the male version of his mother.
Is it just a running gag that you call dissent dysentery lmfao
I had to stop and go back to make sure I heard right! 😂
Chris says that in an episode
My God. You really don't know?
I feel like tony becomes more sympathetic and understanding after he got shot , way more than he wants the others to know , but regardless , in a business sense , he becomes more depraved and pragmatic and cold hearted
This video makes me think back to Christopher’s sexually charged nightmare when Adriana turned into Carmela.
In my dreams people turn into other people all the time. The sopranos is the only show or movie I’ve watched that accurately reflects the randomness of dreams
Excellent video.... just curious though , I notice there are no pictures of Adriana during the course of this video. Why is that?
Tony tried to keep dysentery out of the ranks. Something Adriana couldn’t do
How you fit lines and references in your videos is fantastic
I'd say that running away with Ade is probably just a day dream that he entertains for a small moment in conversation with Melfi. After all, therapy is where he can just think out loud and express ideas and feelings that he is not necessarily serious about. As I think you've shown in the video, he clearly hasn't begun to think it through, e.g. what about AJ and Meadow etc.
Your callbacks are so perfect! Good work!
Some of these nuances and psychological anomalies are just the result of different scriptwriters' takes on things.
yeah i always felt it was pretty obvious adriana was willing to do anything for chrissi and that she was just willing to go along with whatever Tony said because 1) he's the boss🫣 and 2) the feds were in her ear telling her to help herself.
which is clearly what she wanted and implied she was trying to do. help the feds get to tony. so that they he can get out of the life.
i actually think theres some merit to that theory and how it is played in contrast to tony who feels he could just runaway with ade.
Wow - I never noticed that bot ade and Tony use the do it right this time line
I think it's just ego. Tony thinks he can have literally anyone he wants. Plus Tony is sad, and is tired of his life. It's a day dream. You can think about stuff in real world terms and still know it's a fantasy. But yeah I get what you mean.
Great insight
CineRanter: *Sees Borko*
CineRanter: “You couldn’t fuckin retire!?”
Yeah he says dysentery a lot lol, I always think of IBS
After all, his body is mad ripe
I nearly pissed myself and he said this hahahahaha
Thanks, Cine! God bless
7:22 bro that is true for every video you have made. And the premise of the show
Holy smokes, man!
Cunnilingus and psychiatry have led us to this
As far as his most degenerative trait….it’s murder. Not extramarital affairs. Definitely murder.
I love your videos. Someone should grease your union.
Dude, you're so funny❤ love these
8:40… okay Jackie Jr 😂
8:48… okay Jackie Jr 😂
Soon as I saw the thumbnail I thought this was going to be about "Well you get a pass for that."
"Keeping dysentary in the ranks to a minimum."
Yeah great job with that.
It wasn't about Ade, it was about Tony going through a separation. Every man takes it hard when the wife kick him out of his own house, imagine the emotional impact of it on someone like Tony.
Tone was entertaining a hot fantasy for a hot moment allowing his mind to run away with the idea, but he knew he really couldn't do it.
0:51 “the constipated owl.”
The line is worth an analysis but I don’t think it’s that profound. It just showcases Tony’s impulsivity.
I defer to you on these issues, and on all things, cineranter, but Tony doesn't really 'make a play' for Adrianna. It's just something hovering in the air that neither of them really confront.
Tony wasn't trying to reduce "dysentery" (that's an intestinal disease). He was trying to reduce DISSENT.
It's a deliberately mangled phrase in the show, not a mistake.
I caught that as well.
Honestly, if it was intentional it sounds like something Paulie Walnuts would say
1:02 ahh yes yes, the constipated owl look
The Shah was a great Iranian name and that was our name originally. But many years ago, when cineranter uploaded that youtube video from Sicily, they changed it from Shah to Shaw
He thinks maybe he could have a better son with her...that could take over the family biz....maybe??
This is my first time hearing the phrase “cock up,” but it’s obviously another way of saying “f*ck up.”
Adriana would have hooked up with Tony that night. She even was telling the agent who was mocking her to the other Feds. On another note why did Tony insult Chris like that when he came back. "She's a knockout a 10. You're a 4 at best" or some shit like that. Was Tony just bitter?
Airing his fantasy no doubt...great channel dude 👏
Tony would have a better chance with Reanon, A J 's Crazy hospital Friend who gave up Tony's Location to New York so he could be killed while Meadow trys to park for half an hour, and the rest of the fam are sharing onion rings..
I think it was just impulsive Tony ranting another's hypothetical scenario
". I DID DINT ". lol
“The guys are asking for head….his head.”
Christopher does indeed have the makings of a varsity sniffer
He sees how much she actually loves Chris. Carm wouldn’t stay with Tony if he didn’t support her lifestyle. But, I think he says that to justify sleeping with her in his mind. That his intentions would be to do it right this time.
I personally like to think he was projecting how Christopher should feel about her kind of putting himself in Chrissy’s shoes
All I know is that he never had the makings of a varsity athlete
GODAMIT WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU!!
@@kokop.1610 You mad?
He said nearly the same thing about Charmaine
What to know how the sopranos is just the TV show?
I could never see a mob boss talking to a therapist and living past a year without being labeled a rat
I mean this is a major plot point did you even watch the show?
