  • Trevor B. and Joel S. of Weird Music Studios use a case of the new PreSonus PD-70 dynamic microphone for a live performance full-band recording session.
Special thanks to Columbus, Ohio band 'Pray For Sleep' for their performance.
All instruments we're mic'd with a PD-70 with the exception of the overheads which were PreSonus PM-2. Additional backing tracks were captured DI from the band's IEM rig.

Simplemente brutal !!!

Mic clarity sounds great - vocals need serious pitch correction.

the pd70 vs a sm7b for screaming vocals, would you say the pd70 holds it's ground or buckles due to it's response curve in higher frequencies?

his screams sound pretty thin, and not saying that it's his fault here. in another review I heard the pd-70 lacks low end, and lacking low end in screams is gonna make it sound more thin. sounds like they had to try harder to make something of his screams, or the production was just a bit off. they added a lot of distortion which makes it sound kinda bad, but who knows maybe they had no choice with the mic. if anyone has more input on using this mic with screams let us know, if you're in doubt buying a sm58/57 is never a wrong choice on a budget... probs better than buying a fake sm7

@@trenix1206 bare in mind this was an entirely live recording, and due to bleed the vocals were hipassed higher than if it was a studio production record. Only processing was eq and compression. No distortion or saturation.

The PD-70 was used on both guitar cabs, bass cab, vocals, kick, snare, toms and hi hat. PM-2 pencil condensers were used for overheads. The band also had backing tracks which were captured via DI.

    PD-70 over SM7B all day. I can't stand the 7B now.

For real? Thats a bold statement. Can you pinpoint any specific reason why you love this mic over the SM7B other than price? Right now for me, price is the only factor in buying this over the Shure.

@@JackstandJohnny Because realistically, it's overkill for 90% of audience here. It's just a larger capsule version of the 58/57, with an over-hyped proximity effect. The PD sounds more natural for the source speaker, less mud, and frankly just sounds better out the box for most vox applications. I'd take an RE20/320, Telefunken M80, or KSM8 over 7B.
Like, why spend $400 on a 7B just to talk on stream at 320 kbps? Not only that, folks often need outboard preamps or CloudLifters just to make it usable with their cheap interfaces. The Gain requirement alone should be a red flag. $50 used SM58 or similar with a little processing is just as good and far more practical. It's clearly a trendy mic for streamers.
