Quin Rose is a core pigment for me, too. It is my cool red in my 15-color palette. It is so diverse and useful! Great for skin tones, flowers, bright oranges and purples. And when mixed with ultramarine blue + hansa yellow med iin var. proportions, you get dramatic grays and umbers. I couldn't paint without it now. Thanks for the video!
I love Quin Rose from practically every brand. It's such a lovely colour both on it's own and in mixes. Thank you, Liron, great video, love your channel!
Yes, I like this paint (I have an MGraham). I like the near grays with PG7 (on both the reddish and greenish side). With PB29 it mixes soft violets similar to pv15 and pv16. And the other day (I think) Denise at In Liquid Color used umbers to create very interesting earthy colours with it.
Ah very nice!! I have this colour and a few others ordered. I am wanting to mix Quinn rose with ultramarine blue to make rose of ultramarine. Stunning mix with separating properties like cascade green and green appetite genuine
Same here (: Have been using it extensively (Daniel Smith's, SAA's and more). It's funny, when I got started in watercolor I remember thinking to myself - "that's not red!" 😂
I have had M Graham's Quin Rose and haven't really used it much until now. (I know part of it is the honey in it gets messy when the weather is hot as it is now.) I think tomorrow will be a day to play in the paint because I do love this color and the mixes you've shown!!
Interesting mixes .. thinking of using them in a floral. How'd you mix the final green? It kind of looks like a sap green but I'm sure you didn't use a convenience mix ..
I tried quin rose and quin pink. I like the rose better because the tone quality doesn't drop off all of the sudden. But my favs is quin coral m. Cool advice Liron!
Thanks so much for this video. I love the transparency, hue, and mixing capabilities of this DS paint. However, I have major problems when I use is wet on dry. I don't find it liftable and the edges harden so quickly I can't get very discouraged. Another artist suggested adding a bit of gum arabic when I know I will want to lift, and I intend to try that. Is there anything I can do about the edges? I might try a very slight dampening of the paper to reduce the hard edges, but is there something better I can try?
Hmmm, dampening could definitely work, especially for those initial stages. As for lifting - the reds and dark blues tend to give more trouble in my experience. It really is a paint-by-paint property, so I would try less staining paints - those should be easier to lift (: I'm curious about Gum Arabic - could you let me know how it went and if you have found it useful?
@@LironYan I'll try to remember, assuming I do try it. The idea was from a great teacher, Shelley Prior. Here is a video where she uses it to lift drops on leaves. ruclips.net/video/rHmEd8uQvaU/видео.html
I am trying to put together a limited palette. I love the colours you use in your urban sketches. They speak of of heat and light, not unlike the feeling here in parts of Australia. I'd really like to see you talk about the limited palette you use and why you chose those colours. You may already have done that? If so - please point me to the video :)
Thank you 😊🙏🏼 I have this general video about using a limited palette: ruclips.net/video/RTb0pNWyj2k/видео.html But in terms of specific paints, here is my recommendation: 1. Cool blue - Phthalo Blue 2. Warm Blue - French Ultramarine 3. Yellow - Nickel Azo Yellow 4. Cool red - Quinacridone Rose / Permanent Alizarin 5. Warm red - Cadmium Red I usually don't use cool yellows, because I don't like them as much (: I hope this helps!
I love this color, I have the DS version and some general brand version of carmine made with PV19. Both are amazing and mix awesome colors. My fave mix is with Phtalo Green PG7 and also blue PB15-3 and second best with Lemon Yellow PY3. I am wondering about your brush, is it worth the money? I usually use Escoda brushes, but I want to try some other brands.
Yes, I love PV19 (: Compared to Escoda my brushes are rather cheap! Iff you already have similar ones I wouldn't go out of my way to get them. However - if you are looking for a different shape (flat, cat's tongue etc) it may be worth checking out. Though I only used their round ones so far. I'm pleased with them ^_^
Hi Liron, what version of Phthalo Blue did you use? When I mix Quin Rose with Phthalo Blue, the purple that I get is not vibrant. It's more muted and doesn't look as nice as the one you produced. In order to get a really vibrant purple, I have to use French Ultramarine.
Hmm, I used a Winsor Blue by W&N (which is essentially Phthalo Blue). It’s interesting because it’s Green shade, perhaps yours is a different shade? (:
I don't know, Liron, my tube of Phthalo Blue is from Daniel Smith. I've had if for several years. I tend to use French Ultramarine more often. The pigment is Phthalocyanine Blue. The pigment number is PB 15:3. On the same row as the pigment number is Cl# 74160:3. I'm not sure what the Cl# is or even if it is important. The tube is not labeled as Green Shade or Red Shade. It's just Phthalo Blue.
Please take no offense, because I’m a huge fan of yours. Your English is excellent, but you need to learn to pronounce “cotton.” It’s such a common word with watercolor papers. Cotton’s first “o” ls the same as in cot, cop, crop, dot, not, nod, podcast, pot, rot, jolly, Bob, Tom, etc. The second “o” is a schwa, which your’e doing fine. I love your videos! 🙋🏼♀️
I love watercolor videos because of this nature of the community! Usually you-tube is full of toxic comments, but this one is constructive and helpful. I personally don't care (having a strong Indian accent myself, and probably pronounce 80% of things wrong :P) but i'm glad that you made such a constructive suggestion.
English is so complicated in pronunciation! For every rule there are big lists of exceptions to that rule! (Ex. triad and trio: why is there a long vowel in one and a short vowel in the other??) You do very well speaking our crazy language! I know I have quirky English major pet peeves but I have never successfully learned another language.

My pleasure ^_^
Thank you!
And yes - it really is a staple. Works with just about everything.
Love all the Quin. colors. I use this pigment alot. Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure, thank you ^_^
I love Quin Rose from practically every brand. It's such a lovely colour both on it's own and in mixes. Thank you, Liron, great video, love your channel!
Yes, very true!
And I find that it's a color that looks good even with the cheaper brands (:
Thank you ^_^
Love this color. It is my favorite. I paint mostly floral and landscapes. It mixes so well as you showed.
Thank you 😊 Yes - super useful!
“Sorry for painting so much” 😂😂😂💕
Haha 😂😂 That’s da truth

Yes, I really like all the mixes you mentioned + Burnt Sienna (brown ones / red ones). These create a beautiful mix with this one.
So glad to see this review, I plan to give myself an "Essentials" set for my birthday this month; I,m in love qith Daniel Smith's paints!
Awesome gift! ^_^
Can't think of a better one (:

Yes - that’s a beautiful mix as well 😊😊 This is why I love this paint - it mixes so well with both cool and warm blues!
this is my go to red when it comes to mixing. Usually mix it with ultramarine blue to achieve a nice purple that I use for skies.
Same here (:
Have been using it extensively (Daniel Smith's, SAA's and more).

Love this color. I use it a lot in my watercolor florals. 🙂
Daniel Smith have fantastic reds for florals ^_^

I can't to try my M. Grahams set too!

"Sorry for painting so much" lol. Great video as usual, keep up the good work

I just got this set and the secondaries too. I've been working od swatches and learning the sets. Maybe I'll do a video... :)
Awesome, send it to me if you do (:

I think I'm mentioning it in today's video.
