I love this video idea! I think the makeup industry is one of the few industries where I can see consumers applying pressure to cosmetic brands and for the most part (not always but for the most part) brands listen to that feedback, so i feel like the more we as consumers apply pressure for them to move towards more low waste/sustainable packaging we can make it happen !
That Covergirl news is exciting! I do hope that more brands (especially ones not quite as expensive as Charlotte Tilbury) make reusable packaging. That used to be really common, particularly for powder compacts- and it feels so classy! I have been planning for a while to buy the Eco Tools compostable sponge, but I've been working through a big package of sponges I bought at a TJ Maxx. I do have a compost pile in our backyard, so I will have to try composting my wooden pencil shavings. It never occurred to me that I could compost them!
My community stopped recycling glass over 10 years ago, I read an article that said this was becoming a trend (I was shocked when it happened) because apparently it's too costly to recycle glass. So I hate single-use glass packaging myself. Keeping empties and driving over an hour to a recycling center isn't reasonable in my situation currently. Though at the end of the day, with the lack of trust we all seem to have that our recyclables are actually being recycled we can only do what we can do. I would LOVE to see more refillable options, like offer the glass bottle but put out a refill in minimal packaging. But like you I'm so worried about dropping bathroom products. Edit: I forgot to mention that I started buying body wash in pod form, they're developed by Angie Hotandflashy's father so I won't link them here, you can find them if you go to her channel. But I gave them a shot because they're 100% biodegradable ingredients and the packaging is compostable. I don't compost but at least I know the packaging will degrade in a landfill quicker than plastic. It's actually not a bad product, I will probably switch over completely once I use up my stash. That's the kind of product I like to see being developed, I hope this is just the start of brands rethinking their approach.
I didn't know bliss was using eco friendly packaging, that's great to see! I do think aluminum packaging is a good alternative to plastic, especially for less expensive brands.. I would love to see refills and more plastic free options at the drugstore
Sarah, just fyi - Bloomingdale’s sells the CT bronzer refill for only $27. Not sure why it’s cheaper than all the other retailers, but it’s legit and the correct size. Bloomingdale’s also frequently offers 15% off their beauty products, bringing down their price of the refill to about $23. I almost hate making this info too known because I feel like they’ll bring up the price to match other retailers, but I hope people can take advantage of the lower price for now.
tower 28 is great when it comes with sustainable packaging! even if you're not interested in their products it's really cool to see such a strong initiative
Live tinted (at ulta) has a mineral spf with minimal whitecast in a 100% PCR tube which is my favorite spf I’ve tried. The pump also makes it easy to know you’re getting the right amount of spf (3-4 pumps).
This video was refreshing and fun! I love that FAB doesn’t package their products with extra cardboard around it..more brands should get over the idea that every jar needs to come in a cardboard box!
That's awesome how Covergirl is minimizing plastic for those powders! I'm on a hunt for a refillable face powder but haven't found one yet. I know Besame makes one but the actual compacts are never in stock 🙁
Love this video Sarah! 💜 I wish brands would take the hint about less plastic and offer refills like makeup used to. Also that ridiculous that the ct refill is $39 dollars! I mean it still beats the initial $60 but for a thin metal pan and the product wtf. Im willing to shell out more for nice weighty metal packaging that will holdup along time but for just the pan? NO
there are so many beautiful sustainable makeup brands that are doing great things for the beauty space. I review them on my channel and would love it if you checked them out
Thanks for making this video. Hope more YT make similar videos and maybe the brands will listen. CT 😱😱😱 had no idea. And I am going to check out Aether too. 😍😍 I am old school and love sharpening pencils . As a watercolorist I know cadmium pigments are not good for the environment (waterways) so I too am wondering about the pigments that are attached to the pencil shavings. I have plants so if any of my makeup contributes to compost I am here for it 😍
I really hope more companies move to aluminum packaging. I really try to stay away from plastic, but glass is not a great alternative. First, it is difficult to recycle (my area in NY stopped recycling glass), and they are saying glass really isn’t very sustainable. Sand is a resource that is depleting and there is a big impact to the environment in creating the glass. Also with the weight of the glass, it is costly to transport.
Ecotools is kinda hit or miss for me. And the newer purchase the quality is worse. Same goes for real techniques. I recently buyed a few brushes and half of them broke after first use. 🥺
Hi sarah! I really love your content but my opinion is that most of these brands are just greenwashing us with their recycling programmes etc I would love it if you could deep dive into some of the brands to discover the truth :) (Just a suggestion)
Thanks for your comment! I am aware of the concept of greenwashing. However, I don’t see how brands using plastic free packaging, reducing the amount of plastic used in their compacts, or offering refills is greenwashing. To me those are clearly steps in the right direction. Can you elaborate on what you mean here?
@@SarahRoseBeauty I'm so sorry I was vague. Reducing plastic packaging, and using recyclable materials is definitely the better direction. I was talking about how brands have recycling programmes and they accept packaging but they might be just dumping it else where. In the end of the day to survive the tough competition they don't tend to stick to their claims. There are documentaries on how h&m and zara are the biggest culprits(being such prominent brands) I think refills and reduction of plastic is really great but my point was only about the recycling programmes. I shouldn't have said 'etc' in my previous comment. I love your content and especially the makeup repurposing. You changed my makeup game.
@@vrindakacham7421 Thank you for clarifying! Yeah, this video isn't really about recycling programs and more about the packaging itself. I have the same reservations about the recycling programs, and recycling in and of itself isn't going to solve the climate crisis anyway. That's why I'm always excited when I see brands using alternative types of packaging that show it can be done!
Well you don't know what is used in colourfull pencils. But the amount of the potential nondegradable harmful chemicals is so small it's negligible. Although I am not sure about pencil regulation outside Europe so I can't tell you what regulation you have on heavy metals ect 🤷🏻♀️

I agree!! More reusable packaging from affordable brands would be amazing 🙌

i tried their skin care and it’s decent! i am always looking for more sustainable beauty products to review on my chabbel
My favorite are the Zoeva eyeshadows palette, they're cardboard, light, thin and sleek, also the eyeshadows are really good.
I found the Athr Beauty Moonlight Crystal palette at TJMaxx for $15 last month! I couldn’t believe my eyes 😍
I’ve heard that from a lot of people!! Such a good find!
Wow! That's amazing!

I’d love to!!

I love Good molecule cleansing balm. I think it is better than Elf's. And yes, it comes in aluminum packaging :)
I think I'm going to try that one next!!

Haha! “So if you are on the clumsy side, this cocokind line might not be the best for you”. I feel seen. 😂

I love that carbon emissions facts that cocokind provides, all brands should do it
Love this!!!
thank you for watching!!
"It looks...interesting"
HAHAHHAHAH
I never understood why Charlotte Tilbury makes their bronzer refillable, but not their flawless finish powder.
That is weird!! I would totally love to try their powder if it were refillable!

Have you ever considered trying salt newyork? Thats about as sustainable as it gets lol
yes their products do look really nice!! do you have any favorites from them?
