Nicole felt more authentic in the original in her first physical scene, it hid the fact that she's not actually real more, the remake immediately felt a little creepy and like something was off, she seemed too calm for the situation she's in. Plus that recording on the wall right next to where she was shows Isaac was actually talking to Cross and weirding her out.
She kept saying make us whole. Wasn’t as authentic. Something was up especially how the other characters speak I always suspected something was off,no one talks like that.
To be honest I prefer the Original DS character model for some of the characters since I have notice most of the character face expression's in the remake seem stiff and lifeless and do not blink or even look away like Issac did in the original ending showing that he knows that it pointless to look at Nicole's log again for example but this is just my opinion.
Your oppinion is right, I think its due to the frostbite engine, its great for graphical visuals but for face rigging it struggles to pick up nuance and expression, also the animation team obvs missed out on certain aspects like isaac dropping his head or covering his face with his hand at certain points the OG did, which gave isaac character even tho he didn't speak because the body is the next most important way to show expression after the face and voice
@@Kilo_23 Yeah you have a point when it comes to the body language the fact that when it involves any faceless character there way to express them selves is always going to be the body and hands even. Not that the remake is a bad game it just has a few problems on what you said about the engine being used, I would say the remake is more for fun to play then anything not sure if this would be considered canon in the future story...

He acts just like he did in dead space 2 (but with a younger less experienced view) and so does Nicole. Everything else that happens is basically the same from the 1st game.

Anyone else notice there wasn't much arguing or animosity between Hammond and Mrs.Danials in the remake? I noticed it right away at the start when they don't even bicker once when the ship slams into the Ishimura.. I like new Shiney graphics, but it's the characters and the voice acting in the OG that felt so immersive and cinematic when comparing it to the remake. Original is just better imho.
100% agree. It was done very purposefully in the original to seed distrust in Hammond as Kendra pulled the strings behind the scenes. Until you get to spend time with him and see maybe Kendra is hiding something.
I do like Remake Mercer better, but otherwise I agree, VA in old game was noticeably better. Particularly Kyne and Hammond, their new VA sounds more panicky and subdued. It's like they aged down most of the cast, except for Nicole. It feels like your stuck with a group of survivors full of young rookies instead of grizzled & professional adults in the old game.

For me I think the original had better character design for example .Issac older version fits him better as a engineer .Hammond looks softer in the remake than a hardened security officer in the original .Nicole looks like Issac's mother in the remake .Chen to be honest he is better in the remake .Dr mercer's voice was more crazed in the original rather than an evil person in the remake .kendra was also younger in the original but had more development since she makes you feel she has a point in the remake than a doll in earthgov's hands .Johnston's was not necessary .Dr Kyne in the remake looks like a brainwashed unitologest than a crazed crew member in the original who tries to keep his sanity to stop the marker
Tbf Kyne was always crazy. Him wanting to place the marker in Aegis? That was already the marker's influence. He was never actually struggling with the influence, he just believed he did.

The only way you'd ever know their name, is if you looked it up on the Wiki. Otherwise, it's a practically non-existent character. I'm usually REALLY against gender/race swapping. They made hin looked after the VA, wich is a lovely honestly, since the man voice issac in all 3 games and the remake, also in the remake he made all his lines, then re-done all of them with a panic/scared voice for when you are running/low health

I think you can assume that she will look similar to whomever will be the voice actress with a few tweaks. Most likely in her 40-50s as both Isaacs and Nicoles actors is in their 50s.

@@delta2372 So you didn't pay attention to the game or what? Unitology is one of the largest faiths in Dead Space and markers are actually public knowledge to an extent. The entire faith was founded on the base of the black marker that's located on earth and revealed to the public by Michael Altman. Though most unitologists don't actually know shit about the markers. Kyne is one of the rare ones that studied the black marker, but he had no clue about the necromorphs or the real effects of the markers. In the remake Nicole helps people leave unitology as it's one of those hard to leave faiths, so she'd naturally know a lot about their beliefs. Brant Harris (the first hunter you come across) was Nicole's patient and he talked a lot about the marker and his dreams, which led Nicole to investigating the effects of the marker via Harris and later once the outbreak really kicked off you can find her studying a necromorph corpse. She also talked a fair bit with both Kyne and Mercer (especially Kyne), which would naturally lead to her knowing more about the more minute details of the marker and the necromorphs.
@@theokayishgamer it's not that I didn't pay attention it's that I come to the same conclusion each time I try to analyze it, Nicole should not know about the marker and the patient is someone that Nicole should not have access to, the church of unitology would want to to keep Harris excluded from the non unitologists crew because they believed that they would "interfere" with the marker and it's will, while Isaac and many others have many reasons to hate unitology, having Nicole be an active and outspoken anti uni when her two commanding officers (kyne and mercer) along with the captain being outspoken and well known members of unitology there is no way in hell they would let her get away with any of that, and I don't think you quite understand just what a senior officer is, you have more authority than your standard officer yes but not to the point where you are in the inner circle of the head physician and chief science officer let alone be given your own office. Nicole in the original as seen in the extraction prequel game is just a worker on the ishimura, she has authority but not to the insane degree she has in the remake, she stays in medical the entire time because she and the other survivors that the extraction group leave her with want to try and turn medical into a sanctuary for survivors to gather and give aid to if needed, medical eventually gets overrun and with no other way out she kills herself and sends her goodbye to Isaac. Having her running around the entire ship trying to cure the necromorphs doesn't make any sense since Nicole IS A MEDICAL OFFICER she doesn't have the combat training that security has and I doubt medical has tools laying about for her to use. It's also implied before leaving medical to try and cure the necromorphs, she was holding medical down by herself to which I call bullshit because medical was being flooded with people who have horrific injuries, the original video log you find of her she has a nurse that she asks to have the patient who is acting up to hold him down on the table but now she's alone in the remake tending to an over capacity med bay?
I think what we're seeing now is they are revisionism now, not remakes. Many unnecessary changes, whether devs are that self-centered or ESG policy. A lot is missing in the remake just for a bit better graphical fidelity when in truth, the original game still holds up and executed various areas better. It must be easy going over other people's work and sticking in what you want that doesn't lend itself to the horror or storytelling.
What worries me, is that a lot of people didn't seem to bother noticing this huge changes, also the toilet for for every gender addition, since nobody seems to care about all the changes, I'm pretty sure we gonna get a lot of these changes on games they'll try to remake..
Normally I would agree, but to me I felt the changes were relatively minor and did not really affect my overall enjoyment of the game. If the game had been terrible, then I would have made a bigger deal of it, but since they did not sacrifice quality for ideology I will let it slide.

I'll say this. Considering what we actually know about the mining company, the gender neutral bathrooms could in actuality be more of a cutting costs change. We do know they like to cut corners like that. So more of an insidious change, than actually woke, if you chose to see it that way.
TBF Jhonston in the remake now is kinda of an important character rather than a random NPC, the same with Chen... sure they both died in the beginning JUST LIKE THE ORIGINAL but the devs gave them more backstory and Jhonston actually died even further, considering that Jhonston and Chen died earlier nad there were just 3 (Hammond, Kendra and Isaac) i pkayed the OG and the attitude of Kendra make me to side with hammond most of the time and their betrayal was like "Ok" but in the remake shes softer and empathic than in the OG, and if you are a newcomer you can actually side with her
I agree. The new Kendra is a lot better than the original one because in DS1, she behaved like an asshole for no reason, but in the remake, she genuinely cares about other people BUT will do anything to accomplish her objective.
She behaves like an asshole in DS1 because she knows the severity of the situation along with undermining Hammonds command, she deliberately is written that way because she knows more than she let's on and also isn't meant to be sympathetic as she literally leaves you to die and sabotages the comms and doors etc. In the OG game, Why would she act nice to you and sympathise when she's been told to grab the marker and eliminate any loose ends/witnesses. The writing was changed in the remake to make her and earth Gov to be more grey than bad and instead to stealing the marker to return it for research and cover the incident now her job is to extract the marker and hide it once again with earth gov to avoid the collateral and evidence of their crime. I enjoyed kendras acting and some of the writing but the OG was better as a story stand point because earth gov wana keep this incident on lockdown and don't wana fuck around, the USS Valor in the OG has the kill order on all non HVT including the destruction if the ishimura whereas the remake it says to quarantine and destroy ship only if its lost.

It's sad how many people, especially in the mainstream journalism business, refuse to actually talk about these unnecessary changes, from the aesthetic and fundamental gender swaps up to the addition of drama where scenes used to be more impactful due to how real the tragedy of the situation was depicted along with making villains way too sympathetic... all because they'll be labeled as "being too political" when there's nothing wrong with being critical of such things.

Mercer was arguably made an even harsher villan and Kendra basically stayed the same. You can argue she was made more sympathetic through dialog, but then again she was never a villan, only an antagonist at best. And what changed for her was very subtle still, as it pretty much plays out the same way. The only character that drastically deviated from the original was Johnston. And he, or now she, died in a literally useless way again. He just got gender and race swapped, but stayed just as much as a meaningless character. Being mad about this is just as useless.
If it doesn't negatively affect the story or the Gameplay then its not a big deal to me. Seriously tho, people act like swapping a minor characters race and gender who had like 5 lines of dialogue in the original game ruins their experience.

You wanna know what actually does matter? If the game is scary, fun to play, doesn't have game breaking bugs/glitches, has an interesting story and lore to unravel, and gives me a reason to keep playing it after I'm done. I hate forced inclusion, pandering, and SJW bullshit that ruins good stories as much as anybody else. But people really should focus on the important parts instead stuff that has no negative affect on the game.
You haven't replayed the original lately, there was a lot of posters of woman posing sexy for ads and magazines with woman in bikinis but nope there all gone in the remake.
I see people complain about the fact that they changed races, genders and so on only for not important characters and this is not enough. Yes, it's a small step for developers, but a giant leap for wokeness.
Bad decision and missed opportunity not to include the audio from BOTH games. And the new models definitely didnt deserve to use the original dialogue.
The Johnston swap irks me because it was unnecessary (Much like how Hammond's death was heavily underwhelming), but the biggest crime they can make to this series if if they don't bring back Simon Templeman as Danik in DS2. He rocked that role and is one of the best VA's in the industry.

Miss the old Hammond, like the new Mercer, Kyne is a toss up. original Kyne looks like he would have worked with Mercer no probs, new Kyne looks like he we would have been one of the first to be turned.
Has anyone else noticed differences in the cast? Some not so subtle gender and skin color differences? I mean, I didn't think the original was ethnocentric or lacking of diversity, but it seems they had to turn that knob up to 11. That aside, the game, remake was a well worth investment. I am just glad DEI idealogy and propaganda didnt get a chance to infect the core of the game and its developers.

You can hack and slash it any way to find if it's necessary/unnecessary but at the end of the day the game is creative art which introduces artistic choice as long as money is getting pumped in.
Isaac looks so done with life by the end of the first one. Perhaps one of the very few gripes I have with the remake, but other than that, I really loved the remake. Here's hoping they remake the rest of the series.

Unitology is one of the largest faiths in Dead Space and markers are actually public knowledge to an extent. The entire faith was founded on the base of the black marker that's located on earth and revealed to the public by Michael Altman. Though most unitologists don't actually know shit about the markers. Kyne is one of the rare ones that studied the black marker, but he had no clue about the necromorphs or the real effects of the markers.
In the remake Nicole helps people leave unitology as it's one of those hard to leave faiths, so she'd naturally know a lot about their beliefs. Brant Harris (the first hunter you come across) was Nicole's patient and he talked a lot about the marker and his dreams, which led Nicole to investigating the effects of the marker via Harris and later once the outbreak really kicked off you can find her studying a necromorph corpse. She also talked a fair bit with both Kyne and Mercer (especially Kyne), which would naturally lead to her knowing more about the more minute details of the marker and the necromorphs.
@@theokayishgamer it's not that I didn't pay attention it's that I come to the same conclusion each time I try to analyze it, Nicole should not know about the marker and the patient is someone that Nicole should not have access to, the church of unitology would want to to keep Harris excluded from the non unitologists crew because they believed that they would "interfere" with the marker and it's will, while Isaac and many others have many reasons to hate unitology, having Nicole be an active and outspoken anti uni when her two commanding officers (kyne and mercer) along with the captain being outspoken and well known members of unitology there is no way in hell they would let her get away with any of that, and I don't think you quite understand just what a senior officer is, you have more authority than your standard officer yes but not to the point where you are in the inner circle of the head physician and chief science officer let alone be given your own office.
Nicole in the original as seen in the extraction prequel game is just a worker on the ishimura, she has authority but not to the insane degree she has in the remake, she stays in medical the entire time because she and the other survivors that the extraction group leave her with want to try and turn medical into a sanctuary for survivors to gather and give aid to if needed, medical eventually gets overrun and with no other way out she kills herself and sends her goodbye to Isaac.
Having her running around the entire ship trying to cure the necromorphs doesn't make any sense since Nicole IS A MEDICAL OFFICER she doesn't have the combat training that security has and I doubt medical has tools laying about for her to use.
It's also implied before leaving medical to try and cure the necromorphs, she was holding medical down by herself to which I call bullshit because medical was being flooded with people who have horrific injuries, the original video log you find of her she has a nurse that she asks to have the patient who is acting up to hold him down on the table but now she's alone in the remake tending to an over capacity med bay?

I think what we're seeing now is they are revisionism now, not remakes. Many unnecessary changes, whether devs are that self-centered or ESG policy. A lot is missing in the remake just for a bit better graphical fidelity when in truth, the original game still holds up and executed various areas better. It must be easy going over other people's work and sticking in what you want that doesn't lend itself to the horror or storytelling.

What worries me, is that a lot of people didn't seem to bother noticing this huge changes, also the toilet for for every gender addition, since nobody seems to care about all the changes, I'm pretty sure we gonna get a lot of these changes on games they'll try to remake..
Normally I would agree, but to me I felt the changes were relatively minor and did not really affect my overall enjoyment of the game. If the game had been terrible, then I would have made a bigger deal of it, but since they did not sacrifice quality for ideology I will let it slide.

TBF Jhonston in the remake now is kinda of an important character rather than a random NPC, the same with Chen... sure they both died in the beginning JUST LIKE THE ORIGINAL but the devs gave them more backstory and Jhonston actually died even further, considering that Jhonston and Chen died earlier nad there were just 3 (Hammond, Kendra and Isaac) i pkayed the OG and the attitude of Kendra make me to side with hammond most of the time and their betrayal was like "Ok" but in the remake shes softer and empathic than in the OG, and if you are a newcomer you can actually side with her

I agree. The new Kendra is a lot better than the original one because in DS1, she behaved like an asshole for no reason, but in the remake, she genuinely cares about other people BUT will do anything to accomplish her objective.
She behaves like an asshole in DS1 because she knows the severity of the situation along with undermining Hammonds command, she deliberately is written that way because she knows more than she let's on and also isn't meant to be sympathetic as she literally leaves you to die and sabotages the comms and doors etc. In the OG game, Why would she act nice to you and sympathise when she's been told to grab the marker and eliminate any loose ends/witnesses.
The writing was changed in the remake to make her and earth Gov to be more grey than bad and instead to stealing the marker to return it for research and cover the incident now her job is to extract the marker and hide it once again with earth gov to avoid the collateral and evidence of their crime.
I enjoyed kendras acting and some of the writing but the OG was better as a story stand point because earth gov wana keep this incident on lockdown and don't wana fuck around, the USS Valor in the OG has the kill order on all non HVT including the destruction if the ishimura whereas the remake it says to quarantine and destroy ship only if its lost.

The only character that drastically deviated from the original was Johnston. And he, or now she, died in a literally useless way again. He just got gender and race swapped, but stayed just as much as a meaningless character. Being mad about this is just as useless.
If it doesn't negatively affect the story or the Gameplay then its not a big deal to me. Seriously tho, people act like swapping a minor characters race and gender who had like 5 lines of dialogue in the original game ruins their experience.

I mean, I didn't think the original was ethnocentric or lacking of diversity, but it seems they had to turn that knob up to 11. That aside, the game, remake was a well worth investment.
