I am following the Golden Globe Race avidly -- catching the tracking comments each morning with my breakfast. I like that race because it is somehow more "attainable" in the sense that teams behind each solo sailor are not composed of hundreds of engineers supported by carbon fiber/dyneema sponsors.
If the Vendée Globe is the F1 of sailing, then the GGR is somehow... the "stock car" race... or something like that. It is also a verrrrrrrrrry slow race (more like a race against yourself than anything). ❤

What happened in 2018 regarding the radios and weather routing?

      That’s a good question.
I believe that the winner had pre arranged scheduled talks with shore based stations and the shore stations helped him determine the weather forecast. So this could be construed as ‘outside help’..
As well, I think some entrants used amateur radio - ham radio- without the proper license… Which is illegal technically.
But I am not 100% certain on these statements. Like you, I would like to have the record set straight.
