I love sewing with a thimble and love the old sterling silver thimbles! I’ve bought many on EBay - a very good source! Thanks for this video; I really enjoyed all the info! Becca
Thank you for sharing your time and knowledge. The expensive thimble you just ordered, I have an antique one not sure what metal it is made out of. I wear it when I am doing the EPP, I just love it. I wear it on my ring finger on my dominant hand to give the needle that extra push through multiple layers.
Thank you for making this informative video on thimbles. I do hand embroidery and was wondering about the silver thimbles. My husband uses those sailors thimbles on his sails. Stay warm!
I was interested in the stick on thimbles. Thank you so much for covering this topic. My experience with the pink clover rubber with metal top thimble is that it fits well to start, but when/if your finger sweats; it falls off. Also, the rubber stretches out after multiple uses.
Becky, your videos are excellent. I love that all the points are covered. I miss my Texas. My daughter got 10 inches in East Texas. Second day a pipe burst & flooded her entire home. She said nobody ever gave the snow tip to mark your outside water cut off. Keep warm, Hugs Janice in Georgia.
Hey Becky, here frozen in Lavon! 😊 Love your sharing, today’s so helpful. Had to giggle about duct tape, when I embroider or appliqué I use electrical tape, mine is purple! I love the tape and can double or triple, it’s not as sticky as duct tape. I’ve been challenged to get the stitch quality I like with a thimble. Ordered the leather ones from you this week, look forward to getting those to try whenever the mail starts back up! Stay warm!
Poor baby. You have some snow. We got 12” last Monday. My snow brush wouldn’t move it had to use a metal dust pan like a shovel. Today it’s gorgeous at 6 degrees.
I know, our measly 8" are not so bad. And this was dry snow so didn't turn into ice and it melted fast once the temps came up. It was the hard, record-setting, multi-day freeze in a state that was totally unprepared that caused our problems. it would be nice if those in power at the state level would learn from this but I am not going to hold my breath.
I would tell you if I knew. The way thimbles fit vary from person to person. Look at people fingers… there is a lot of variety in shapes, digit length, knuckle size, etc. And all of that helps to determine not just which thimble will work for you, but what size of that thimble. An affordable way to start the hunt for your thimble could be to buy some cheap ones. Notice what shapes and sizes work and then move on to better thimbles. I hope this helps 😊
I’m not there yet myself, but I would think that adhesive thimbles would be one solution. Leather thimbles could work. And this is totally off the top of my head, but what about cutting fingers off of gloves that fit your particular hand? And using some of the suggested tape to reinforce the area where you need the most protection? It might be worth a try. If I come up with a better idea, I’ll talk about it.
This is the BEST thimble video I've seen. Appreciate all the information and styles!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Becky, you are so helpful sharing all your knowledge and expertise and experience! Thank you so much for your cheerful help!
You are so welcome!

It is funny how we accumulate tools and then forget why we got them. I do that too!

I'm sorry to here about the flood at your daughter's house. She isn't alone, which is no comfort at all.
Becky, thank you very much. Your share your experience . It's fantastic..

Sometimes I just use a small bandaid or even painters tape.
By the the silicone fingertips work great at the grocery store to open those plastic bags in produce .
what a great idea!
I wish you would have mentioned how to know what size to order as I have no idea and most sites don’t tell you how to size for your finger.

I hope you'll address those of us who have those arthritic fingers with the big nodes and crooked.

I actually use electrical tape. Low glue, comes off easy
it is always nice to have options :-)
