    My main reason for living is to be able to listen to Dame Joan until I die. It’s impossible to explain the joy she brings me.

      What an inane remark. She knew exactly how great she was and thus felt no need to keep making others say how great she was. No singer of her stature is without self knowledge.

    Impecable y algo para aplaudir durante horas Mandan Sutherland aquí nos da una Clase Magistral de como abordar una obra tan difícil como está sin dejar de destacar que poseía una voz bella y bien colocada debo decir que adquirió una técnica muy evolucionada para su época para mí Es y será la soprano Estrella de todos los tiempos elegancia y distinción la hacen brillar junto a una espléndida voz llena de una belleza insuperable desde Madrid quiero agradecer a las personas que hacen posible videos como este de una de las más grandes figuras del arte de la ópera

    She sang this earlier in her career but the low passages were much better here in her more mature voice.

      @@aaronmalone7065 Only extremely early in her career. Love Price and her voice lasted a long time but the flexibility didn't last but for a short time.

    I was Joan's understudy in The "Tales of Hoffman", the first role she ever sang at the Sydney Opera House.

    She was not her usual perfect self in this concert. Minor mistakes in the cabaletta and later in the Hamlet mad scene. Apparently she had been spooked by the lightning and the fact that every famous singer and agent in New York was present.

      She also forgot the words in the Brindisi from La Traviata. But she was still amongst the greatest.

      She admitted to being prone to lapses of memory as time went along...and we saw a few in this performance. The singing itself, however, was still head and shoulders above most of her colleagues.

      @@joshuamcpherson007 It was common for Dame Joan to sing recitals with the sheet music in front of her - no crime, but not the norm for recitals.

      @@sutherland9 Yes, that's true, and she almost always insisted on a prompter during a staged performance...later in career. " I have a lousy memory" was her usual explanation.
