Thanks to all of you who watched and believed! Thank you Stylelikeu for letting me share a little of my life, style and STUFF. For more you can check out my new book--Never Stop To THink...Do I Have A Place For This? (Rizzoli) warmest, Carter
Mary, you are a lighthouse and an inspiration. How lucky we are to have you as a nomad trailblazer. This interview changed something for me, profoundly. Thank you.
Thank you Mary.I was so moved by this beautiful film of you.Your candid authenticity , your brilliant aesthetic and poetic creative connection to life and love. You ooze inspiration with every breath.Thank you for existing.Life is good with people like you in it.
I love the way she wore that dress inside out to the 'party of the year' and some ?fashion editor? came up and said the "dahhling, where did you get that dress" comment! Hilarious, and wonderful, how a moment in time that if she had noticed the dress was inside out earlier, the moment would have been horror, maybe even self loathing (for some women) but instead w/o intention the moment is amazing, even transcendent. It is like the Tarot card 'the Fool' which is a Forrest Gump mentality, merrily going along, innocently slipping through those cracks between bad places:)
Ya! That was so amazing! I thought the 'moment' was getting a compliment from Dianna Vreeland haha then her dress was inside out! So awesome. I also loved her book title "never stop to think do I have room for this" or something? Such an affirmation for us :)
what works at 20 may not work at 50+. too dark hair is aging, long hair can pull one down. still, agree that one should not subscribe to hard and fast rules.
This makes me so happy! I am a big junk collector, folk artist, writer, and small-time junk dealer. We have a house in downtown Fayetteville, AR with a gallery in front called The Mystic Melon, painted like watermelons on the front porch. My husband is a lapidary and we also sell crystals and stones and jewelry. Well, carry on Carter!
This may be one of the most satisfying 8:07minutes of my life! It was like eating a 9 course meal, so divine, and she has her mothers face!!! Thank you for sharing this 🙏🙏🌼🌼💫the books💫💫the clothes 💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽the space, the history. I'm full.😃😃👌🏽🍾
I discovered Carter back in 1980 something when I found American Family Style and I have since collected every one of her books. She is the most unique and stylish woman out there. The title for this video is perfect, she truly is an original!
Omg! This was amazing!!! I’m 74 , still have long hair and remember reading Self Magazine here in New Zealand when I was young!! Loved that magazine ♥️♥️♥️ this lady is WONDERFUL!!!
when the interview began and she started telling us about her home, i felt like i was there with her, surrounded by love! i rewinded that part so much, haha. i ended up closing my eyes, and created an image in my mind. she's wonderful! ugh, one of my favorites. she is radiating from the inside out!
+Mojokat I think because she is a very genuine person. People don't normally share their emotions as freely. Gives you a good feeling, reminds you that we aren't all cardboard cut outs ;-)
Absolutely LOVE her style👏👏👏in everything!! She is perfect with long hair, we must do what is right for US🤗l am 72 and also have long hair, because it’s just ME, though l usually put it up into an Edwardian knot. If you have character, you simply do not follow fashion, you make your own. Mixing and matching any way you please is the BEST!!
FANTASTIC. So so ultimately intimately inspiring...! What an amazing woman. I feel so empowered and energized from watching this closet interview. Validated too. Thanks for this beautiful work!
The 2 most beautiful & touching woman in this series BOTH were incredibly loving & admired their parents greatly. The other lady had short white bobbed hair & also lived in Manhattan
Just a thank you for your lovely books. I still have American Family Style. It just makes me feel good to look at it. I follow you on pinterest but it's good to hear your voice because that tells me you are down to earth. So glad I found you on you tube.
Yes mam! Raised a Texan in every way possible but moving to Nashville has changed me in so many ways and opened my eyes to see the real me. My wife and I have been married for 38 years and we both absolutely love hunting for old things. Our house is filled with just about anything you could imagine too.
The more I watched, the more interested I was in you. Admire your honest, simple, playful, unapologetic passion. I fully understand about your parents being your “ bones & heart”…as are mine ❤️
This is glorious! I found you at just the absolute correct time in my life. I love all my junk, but the youtube channels I have been watching have been anti everthing extra, even clothing have you even heard of a capsule wardrobe? I had began to think there is somthing horribly wrong with me that maybe I really an a horder. Even though I have no problem releasing some of my finds back into the universe for yet another junker to find it, and have that spark in them be kindled. I know now I am not ANYTHING but exactly what I am ment to be. Thank You
Mary I loved listening to you. I came across your book a while back on Amazon and considered buying it. I have a dust allergy and have to keep the number of surfaces down! I will buy it anyway (I can look right!) LOVE your lines. Your comment about your mother touched my heart. I have noticed my own face looking more like my mother as I get older also. It's not easy to watch time doing it's thing. I think a bit of defiance is a good thing - ignore the person in the mirror :-) do we tell the flower it can't age?!
The sad thing is there are very few women that believe in themselves enough to express their own style Becks they think you need to ' own" it \ everything sorry wrong like she said it's not things it's the ppl you can't own anything...expression is where it is babes xxx
BE TRUE TO URSELF ALWAYS only friday I was asked when having my hair cut frst time in 10 weeks Why don't u colour why nit botox why not eye brow tint etc This is me i am comfortable why cant u be It took me life to make these 'love lines' be who u r authentic

What a beautiful home you have...a persons home is almost like a identification document of a person, and yours is so rich, beautiful, real ...

Loved it, thank you.
Wonderful insight into your life and style. Thank you.
“I love wrinkles- on my face, on my clothes”
Absolute goals.
This lady is goals for me. She is unapologetically herself.
Her style, wisdom and beauty shines brightly.
Her aesthetic and her outlook on aging are spot on. And the emotion in her voice when she speaks of her mother’s face! Beautiful.
When she speaks about her mother
I adore this woman. She has it all together.
Don't tell me that I can't keep my hair long if that's what makes me comfortable. WORDS TO LIVE BY BABY! love her :)

I'm glad she said that, not only is my hair long, but it's grey too! 67 years old.

Love a woman who is who she is, not someone else's version of who she should be ❤
