Thanks for the great video, it's so nice to see that you guys are as excited as Inside Up and I are about this upcoming expansion for Earth :) Hope you're going to enjoy it as much as you've anticipated! Regarding the 11 points for closing, you were correct that you can score several more points by game end with the expansion, but the main factor was that all other players can exchange their last unused leaf for a seed. At game end, a seed is usually worth between 3 and 5 points depending on how you use it, thus the 11 points instead of 7 is to ensure that players still have an incentive in closing the game as fast as possible. It compensate for the extra 4 points average other players will get from not closing the game, thus keeping the same Maths as in the base game.
I'm glad you guys enjoy the fact that we've kept the same %, it was 34 different variable to keep on the 70 cards we've added to the main deck. It was a crazy Sudoku to solve indeed, the hardest of my life in fact! All the % stayed within less than 1% range of the base game, so it isn't perfect, but it's the closest I could get. There are 86 new cards total, but 102 new effects because 16 of them are double sided. The 70 new cards in the Earth deck brings the total to 353, so 1 card out of 5 will be from the expansion. In an average game, you see around 50 cards (including the ones from the green action), so 10 of them should be of the expansion, making sure that Abundance have a significant impact on all of your games when you play with it!
There are also cards were you chose a player to give the sprouts to. So it's a positive take that, bring up the loser mechanism where you need to look at the fauna, see who's behind not to benefit the strongest players. Finally, thanks again for the video and talking about Earth expansion, and oh, Rainbow Mountain is in Peru ;)
Thanks for the clarification! I was worried that the extra bonus for ending the game would make the (less-fun) "plant every turn no matter what" strategy even more powerful, but it sounds like there may be a balancing factor in play.
I saw a forum post on BGG from someone who ran over 1,000,000 Monte Carlo simulations to prove that Earthborne Rangers was unbalanced. One debuff had almost 1% higher chance of appearing - the horror 😂.

I think I will be getting this expansion just for the change to the sprouts! That felt like the most awkward rule to explain each time, that you could trade sprouts for soil anytime EXCEPT during watering. I love positive interaction as my interactivity in games too.

😀 Emily, great to see your excitement. For me personally this expansion belongs to superfans of the game. I think the base game has a massive amount of cards and that's enough for people like me who play this game now and then. Despite the opinion of the majority here, I'm not a fan of digging through a deck for certain icons. It's part of this kind of games that cards don't come perfectly and for me that's a charm rather than a negative point. I always try to focus on multiple things so you don't depend on that 1 single symbol. Same for the interaction... I already have enough work with everything triggered every round without also having to check with neighbours or get things from them. The change for the sprouts is the only thing I'd love the base game to have. I like the game, but don't love it and this will not change my opinion, but hey that's me 🙂
I don't want to yuk your yum but Wingspan already did the adding cards and the % staying the same for scoring cards. We should not forget who started this. Easy to forget with the cult of the new. Props where props are due. Also the Ark Nova expansions solved the whole big deck thing too.
It’s still a pretty massive accomplishment, mathematically speaking. I applaud that dedication to detail and keeping balance. Would’ve been a massive blow if they didn’t, of course, but still…
Anyway, I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing that others have done similar stuff before, on the contrary. An expansion shouldn’t be about revolutionizing anything. It should focus on improving and expanding an already great game. No need to reinvent the wheel.
Sounds like that’s what this expansion does that in abundance (yay, I can also do puns 😄). I’m definitely interested in!
It should be noted that wingspan later abandoned it too for some cards.

There is a lot of player interaction added with this expansion. But what about the solo game? How does the expansion change the solo game?
Do we know when it will be released?
if you backed on Kickstarter it should be late fall, like November or December/24 I think. Prob several months later for retail.
One more thing... :P
