Some people have poo-pooed Richter's work. Perhaps that's because they haven't seen the full range of his pieces, something nicely presented in this doc. Thanks for the chance to see it. He's a great artist.
He seems to be investigating many different aspects and possibilities of figurative and abstract languages interweaving choice and chance into a very deep investigation of experience of significance
Richter is a very interesting artist - investigating all kinds of images and at the same time different ways of exploring all kinds of possibilities of painting and image making
Incredible exhibition, and ironically Mr. Godfrey has been reprimanded for voicing his displeasure at the erroneous postponement of The Guston retrospective, work that speaks to the the racial injustice crisis.
Try suing a rich artist...you will lose unless you already have gobs on money yourself. And Warhol ripped off photographers left and right and got away with it.
Dude. I appreciate your deep knowledge of art. But I can see the steam coming out of your head when you describe this work. Richter’s most effective and signature work is his squeegee work. And he was not the first artist to do that . Everything else you’re showing us here is decidedly middling in quality. It’s not distinctive. It’s not super memorable. The squeegee work is both . Can we keep it 100 please?
Part of growing up as an adult is to recognise that there are more intelligent and capable people than yourself that you must accept in life.ie. your boss at work. Why is it Paul Scott, that you can so shamelessly reject the intellect of an artist of Richter's stature based on something as ignorant as your own own taste and further think that they can state that it is "not art"thus implying that you know what art is. This attitude equates with the narcissistic garbage currently dominating public debate. I reckon if we ever go to war it will be a war against the narcissists. It is a trait of narcissistic personality disorder to disqualify and disparage from any debate anyone claiming a higher authority usually without any evidence. Sadly a desire to be always right diminishes their capacity to see their own stupidity. Your comment does not contribute anything resembling an engagement with the work you are rejecting , a fundamental requirement of any legitimate critique necessary to advance in any educational setting.
This is the clearest overview of Richters work I've ever seen. Brilliant
Great video! This guy os a super curator, and good in front of the camera

i'm not sure if this is Richter's true intention
Incredible exhibition, and ironically Mr. Godfrey has been reprimanded for voicing his displeasure at the erroneous postponement of The Guston retrospective, work that speaks to the the racial injustice crisis.
How about HD? Come on this is Richter....
I like Richter's paintings, but just paintings.
i'm painter
Does he paint over the photos?
No for the realistic paintings. But theres a series of photographs that he put paint over it, in an abstract way. You can find it on his website
Nein!
14:50 I mean come on man... really? a ball?
😂
How does Richter get away with painting others photos? Isn't that copyright infringement? Great work!
+Michael Mccauslin copyright infringement ..speaking of which....well ,you should see what richard prince did , lol .
no ist not. or do you get sued whenever you use a Picture from Google in your PowerPoint presentation?
Try suing a rich artist...you will lose unless you already have gobs on money yourself. And Warhol ripped off photographers left and right and got away with it.
most photos he took himself
@@robertgiles9124 He used photographs when he wasn't rich. It has nothing to Do with money.

I am not sure why he would immortalize terrorists. Very odd. Well on to the squeegees!
It wasn’t a memorial nor a condemnation , it’s banality is sublime
Always found all his work boring .
Vile. Not art.
That's hilarious....you reveal yourself beautifully (though not in a good way) by this statement.

@@neilmurphy7554 I see.I didn't realise I was ignorant and stupid but your drivel on narcissism has helped me understand,
Looking forward to your book on "What is Art?'
