  • Devin Booker. 2018 NBA Three Point Contest Champion. 2016 All-Rookie First Team. When Devin Booker went off for 70 against the Celtics last season, he joined an elite group, a group that not even Michael Jordan is a part of. Wilt Chamberlain, Kobe Bryant, David Robinson, Elgin Baylor, David Thompson, and Devin Booker are the only players to have reached the 70 point plateau in a single game. It was only the 11th 70-point game in NBA history. He also became the youngest player to score over 60 points in a game. Basically, Booker is a bucket and he’s only getting better.
Devin has the distinction of being the Suns’ primary creator. Whether that means generating a look for himself or others, he’s just hard to stop. He’s outstanding off the ball, with movement that Kyle Korver and Klay Thompson would be proud of, and he already has an elite effectiveness of the dribble. His footwork is phenomenal, and his jab game gets him anywhere he wants. He can finish with finesse, using an arsenal of scoops, hooks, floaters, and extendos with either hand. His post game is a work in progress but it’s already further along than most 21 year olds (including true back to the basket guys). Plus, he’s got a scrappiness that should set him apart in years to come. He’s not afraid to push off (and you’ll see that quite a bit in this video), but that’s a byproduct of his off ball work. You can take offense if you want, but I liken it to Reggie Miller and/or John Stockton; they take their offense to the next level, not by being physically dominating, but by using every little tip and trick to maximize their moments.
Devin did only play 54 games this season, but he had a career year across the board. 24.9 points per game, which would’ve ranked him in between reigning Most Valuable Player Russell Westbrook (25.4) and Kyrie Irving (24.4 ppg) and ahead of All-Stars and All-NBA teamers like LaMarcus Aldridge (23.1), Victor Oladipo (23.1), DeMar DeRozan (23.0), Joel Embiid (22.9), Bradley Beal (22.6), Lou Williams (22.6), Jimmy Butler (22.2 on 59 games played) and so on. He shot 43.2% from the field, finishing with a roughly similar percentage as Blake Griffin, Donovan Mitchell, Lou Williams, Kemba Walker, Paul George , Eric Gordon, and Kyle Lowry. Devin’s 3 point percentage, 38.3% from the field, but his 2.7 3 pointers made per game is JUST outside of the top 10. Kyrie Irving and JJ Redick round out the top 10 with 2.8 makes per game, but Kevin Durant, Robert Covington, Trevor Ariza, Joe Ingles, and Chis Paul all finished with 2.5 3 point makes per game. His 87.8% from the free throw line is good for a top 15 finish, and his 4.7 assists per game would have put him in the company of Giannis Antetokounmpo (4.8), Goran Dragic (4.8), Al Horford (4.7), Bradley Beal (4.5) and Victor Oladipo (4.3 apg).

Brandon Martin...I agree.Only thing him & Klay have in common is skin tone.Booker's more of an ISO/Slasher....Klay is a screen curl/catch n shoot type guy.People let the light skin fool them. And I know people hate to hear it, but Booker's game is much closer to Kobe's than it is Klay's.Him and Klays game couldn't be more opposite. One guy thrives in ISO(Booker) and the other doesn't.Klay's in the perfect situation.Gets to play with the greatest shooter of all time, a top 3 SF of all time, and not have to worry about being the sole focus of opposing defense. He can just curl & snipe all day.Booker's a Green Beret. He has to get out there in the trenches and get it himself. On top of that, he's only 21 yrs old still.Coming off a 25 5 and 5 season.I don't get why casual fans love to hate on this guy so much. He's one of the best and most exciting young stars to watch in the league.

Brandon Martin....No denying Klay's the epitome of a 3 & D guy.He certainly is.Awesome in that role.I just don't think he's a 1st option/franchise caliber player because you can't give him the ball and say "go get em!"He's an all time great role/complimentary piece.Defenses are geared to stop Steph & KD.All Klay has to do is hit his open shots & play D.No denying he's awesome at that...But if I was starting a franchise tomorrow and you gave me the option of picking Devin Booker or Klay Thompson to build around? I'm taking Booker. For the most part, I believe 1st option players MUST be able to thrive in ISO, and generate their own offense or facilitate for others.Booker's all around more skilled in that regard.

80% of his shots are from the right side or center line of the court. He hardly takes a left wing 3 point jump shot, often he drives in for a shorter distance jump shot from the left side.
